When she uncovers the full conspiracy against her and realizes that the death she witnessed was faked, the very reason she ended up in prison?

Chapter 1 Betrayal

Kaitlyn POV

My life changed that night when I woke up unexpectedly. That miserable moment when I heard my husband, Martin, having a secret phone call in the bathroom.

Curious, I approached the bathroom, pressed my ear close to the door, and listened carefully to his conversation. He was whispering past midnight, and something felt terribly wrong.

"What are you saying? We only spent one night together. How are you pregnant with my child?" Martin almost shouted at the person on the phone. My heart skipped a beat.

His child? He made another woman pregnant?

"Yes, I know my wife is infertile, but are you sure it's my child?" Martin continued, and I became more curious. I couldn't contain the emotions welling up in my eyes.

My heart raced, struggling not to believe what I had just heard. "Okay, okay. We'll do the test tomorrow. Goodnight," I heard him say as he suddenly ended the call in anger.

I quickly returned to bed, closing my eyes while pretending to sleep. Soon, I heard Martin's footsteps approaching the bed, and I froze.

For months, I had noticed that Martin, the man I had lived with for four years, had grown cold toward me. His kisses had become short and empty. He no longer made love to me. He came home late, giving excuses about family investments, but in reality, he was spending time with his young mistress.

I didn't want Martin to know I had eavesdropped. I'm not that weak. Even as he betrayed me, I couldn't let him see my suspicion. But I had to know.. who was she? And why?

Then, unexpectedly, he kissed my forehead, sending shivers through my body.

"Don't worry, darling, everything is fine." Was he trying to compensate for his betrayal? "We might welcome a new wife soon, but you can stay if you want."

I felt as if a dagger had pierced my chest when I heard Martin's words. He turned away and went to sleep. Despite my anger, I decided not to confront him until the next day.

However, when I woke up the next morning, Martin was already gone. Martin, who never left the bed without greeting me each morning, had suddenly disappeared. Something felt off. My mind went back to the eavesdropping from last night.

What if it was true? What if another woman was carrying his child? What would become of me? I was in shock. Martin had been my entire world, but life had taught me strength and not to give up. I paced the room, thinking.

I had lost everything for this marriage, but I had never regretted it.. not until this moment. I knew that if this unexpected reality was true, Martin's family wouldn't waste time throwing me out.

They had treated me harshly for failing to conceive and provide an heir for the family, even once, even if I had miscarried. I had accepted their criticism silently. There was nothing to say, especially since I loved Martin and thought he felt the same... but he was just a cheater.

I sighed, realizing they had at least been patient with me. They had been waiting for a child from me for about four years, but all they had received was disappointment. And now it seemed the problem wasn't Martin.. it was me.

Looking at reality, my heart felt heavy. "No, I'll confront Martin. And if his betrayal is true, I'll leave this marriage. I've endured so much to be with him and because I loved him, but this... no," I encouraged myself, knowing how much I had already lost. I could not give up so easily.

As I headed to the kitchen, I grabbed the vacuum cleaner lying on the floor and started tidying the house. I wanted to keep my mind busy, but it wasn't helping much.

While cleaning, unaware of the water on the floor, I slipped and fell hard. Sharp pain shot through my back and stomach, followed by blood slowly dripping onto my thigh.

In my panic, I grabbed my phone randomly from my pocket. I called the first person on my contact list and screamed for help. My cries and tears terrified my friend.

"Hello, Ashley, please hurry! I don't know what's happening to me," I said, my vision blurry, barely able to hear her from the other end.

"Kaitlyn, please calm down. What happened?" Ashley tried to understand, but my voice barely made sense. My whimpers grew louder, and Ashley's worry escalated as she left her house immediately.

"I just slipped, and suddenly there's blood flowing down my thigh." I couldn't finish the sentence before collapsing from the pain.

When I regained consciousness, I found myself lying in a hospital bed. On either side were the doctor and Ashley, smiling at me happily.

What could be so funny now? I asked, confused. "Can someone please tell me what's happening?" I had no idea why Ashley was laughing like a fool beside me.

"Congratulations, Mrs. Thompson. You've been pregnant with twins for two weeks," the doctor announced, looking at me. I looked at Ashley, who nodded happily. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

Pregnant? But how?

I was stunned, placing my hands on my flat stomach, unable to comprehend. I hadn't been intimate with Martin for almost a month.

Why am I pregnant now? Did Martin sleep with me when I fainted two weeks ago? Or did the doctor do something when I was brought to the hospital? I was completely confused.

Facing Ashley sitting beside me, I tried to get confirmation from my friend. "Really? Are you mocking me in my misfortune?"

"No, haha," Ashley laughed at my angry face. "No, Kaitlyn. This is real. You're pregnant with twins. Thank God you called in time."

Ashley pulled the test results from her purse and showed me. She patted my shoulder, making me realize the truth.

Seeing the positive results in my hands, my lips trembled as tears of joy streamed from my eyes uncontrollably.

After all these years, I could finally be called a mother.

"So when will I be discharged?" I asked Ashley as she hugged me, trying to calm me. It was hard to believe, my constant crying showing my excitement.

"This evening. Everything is fine. No internal damage, so with the few medications I'll give you, the twins will be safe," the doctor smiled at us before leaving.

As soon as the doctor left, Ashley stood as if she remembered something. Her eyes flashed with a hint of anger. "Kaitlyn, I need to go to the bathroom. I'll be back in a moment."

I smiled at her. "No problem. I'll wait."

She nodded slightly and left. She went into the bathroom and quickly closed the door. Pulling her phone from her pocket, she dialed a number impatiently. "Hello, Linda. How's the plan going? Please hurry. Kaitlyn got pregnant suddenly. We need to get rid of her as soon as possible before Martin finds out about the pregnancy. I'm pregnant with Martin, and I have to marry him."

Chapter 2 Twin Pregnancy

Kaitlyn POV

When I returned home that evening, my heart was racing with excitement as I hurried upstairs to show Martin the test results. But to my disappointment, he wasn't home.

"Hasn't he been back since this morning?" Worry crept into my chest again. His absence and the silence of no calls deepened my unease.

I stood in front of the mirror in our room, gently placing my hands on my lower belly and smiling.

"You two... your father will love you so much. And I... I'm waiting for you eagerly." Tears of joy streamed down my face. After four years of waiting, I could finally be a mother. I would carry the title of 'Mom.' I would hold my two babies in my arms and finally be rewarded for all the patience I had endured.

I wished everyone would treat me with love and respect now. I was an orphan. I had no one in this world but Martin. He was my family, my entire world.

I picked up my phone and dialed Martin, but his phone was off. I wasn't sure if what happened yesterday was true... that Martin had another woman pregnant. I needed to be certain before taking any action.

Patience and silence were the only options for now. So I decided I wouldn't tell Martin about my babies until I knew the full truth. And if everything I heard yesterday was true, I would leave this marriage.

I looked at the clock again. It was already late... Would he make up another excuse about work or an emergency? My thoughts were racing. I placed my bag on the bed and slowly headed downstairs.

Suddenly, I noticed someone trembling violently on the floor near the dining table.

"Who's there?" I screamed, rushing toward them in fear.

When I reached the spot, shock froze me. It was Theresa, Martin's sister, shaking violently on the floor. "Theresa! What happened?" Fear filled me.

"Theresa, wait! I'll get help!"

I reached for my phone in my pocket, but I remembered I left it upstairs. Panic surged through me as I screamed for assistance.

It wasn't long before Martin and Ashley rushed into the house. Seeing me kneeling on the floor beside Theresa's body, Martin stood by my side while Ashley approached with an unreadable expression, a strange smile on her face.

"Kaitlyn, what's going on?" Martin asked, his voice full of concern, but he froze when he saw his sister lying lifeless.

"My sister! Oh my God! Kaitlyn, what did you do?"

Fear gripped me, and I sobbed, "I didn't do anything! I found her like this."

But Martin was in shock, clearly not believing me. I was on the floor, Theresa's body stretched out before me, and Martin's accusing words echoed in my ears.

"What did you do?!" His voice was a mix of anger and despair.

I was in a state of confusion. My heart pounded wildly, and my mind raced to understand what was happening. I looked at Martin, but his eyes were full of doubt. "I didn't do anything! I swear!"

Ashley stood beside me, her face pretending to be shocked. "We need to call an ambulance," she said, her tone flat and emotionless.

Martin ran to his sister, searching for his phone. My worry grew as I watched them. Something was wrong, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

Martin turned to me, his eyes full of accusation. "You were the last one with her."

"I swear, I just found her!" I pleaded, but Martin had made his decision.

Ashley stepped forward, placing a calming hand on Martin's shoulder. "Let the authorities handle it, Martin."

Martin shouted at me, then turned to Ashley angrily. "Call an ambulance immediately."

I was still shaking, tears streaming down my face. I whispered fearfully, "I really didn't do it."

Ashley approached me, her eyes full of fake tears, accusing, "Why, Kaitlyn? I know you didn't like Theresa, but were you planning to kill her?"

Her words wrapped around me like chains, trapping me in a circle of accusation.

Martin's gaze narrowed before he shook his head and stepped back, deepening my confusion. My eyes shifted to Ashley, crying and accusing me. I couldn't believe I was living this nightmare.

I stood up and asked Ashley, "Why are you accusing me? You know I was with you today."

But Martin intervened, his face red with rage. "Liar. Ashley was with me today, and we came together. Why do you keep lying?"

Fear took over me. I had no idea what was happening. I couldn't believe Martin could doubt me this way.

I looked at him with tear-filled eyes. "Do you doubt me?" I asked softly.

His entire body froze at my question. He looked at me with a gaze I couldn't understand. Did he know about the pregnancy? Did he really think I was a killer?

He approached me angrily, and instinctively, I took a step back. I didn't know what was happening, but everything felt wrong.

As soon as he reached me, he grabbed my shoulders and pinned me to the wall by the door.

He said angrily, "I gave you everything. A house, the chance to go to college, a place to sleep, food, money, everything you could ever want."

I trembled under his grip, afraid he might do something terrible in his fury. "I really consider Theresa like a sister despite everything," I whispered.

But he sneered sharply, "You're a damn liar."

I shook my head, my heart pounding in my chest. "I want you out of my house. Out of my life. I'll put you in jail."

Fear gripped me as I looked at him. "Please... what is this?" I whispered in shock.

He replied coldly, "I want you out of my life completely. I don't want to see you again."

I glanced at the man I had loved with all my heart, but I couldn't understand how everything turned into this nightmare.

"But why? Why don't you trust me? I don't understand what's happening. Please, tell me"

He suddenly shouted, "Get out!" I trembled from the sudden scream and lowered my head.

Minutes later, the ambulance arrived with the police. The officers took me away in front of Martin without a word of concern. He got into the ambulance with Ashley.

In shock, I looked around fearfully at the metal restraints on my wrists... and inside me, a volcano of questions erupted. Why is Ashley doing this? How did Martin become like this?

Chapter 3 Prison

Kaitlyn POV

I sat on the metal chair in front of Douglas Carter in the small, dimly lit visiting room with cold walls. Douglas Carter was here, visiting me.. a complete surprise, especially since I knew the massive conflict between him and Martin. He was Martin's rival, his enemy. No one hated Douglas as much as Martin did.

He stared at me as if trying to read the thoughts swirling in my head. I wore the gray prison uniform, my swollen belly drawing attention. I felt like the tight pull of my hair, slicked back, was my only shield of dignity in this harsh place.

Douglas smiled gently, though his voice carried a firm edge as he said, "Kaitlyn, I know you've been wronged. You've been jailed for a crime you didn't commit, and the people behind it need to pay."

I looked at him with empty eyes, as if I no longer believed in anything. I didn't utter a word. I just stared at him, waiting for more.

He continued, "I know Martin and his sister played a big role in this, and I know there were false witnesses against you. But if you work with me, we can get revenge and reclaim what's yours." His voice was confident, filled with determination, as if his plan was destined to succeed.

I stayed silent, staring at the table as if lost in deep thought. My face betrayed nothing, just a blank stare hiding hundreds of swirling thoughts and worries.

In that moment, I felt a weight heavier than I expected. How could a pregnant woman survive in this hell? How could I give birth and raise my children in such a cruel place?

Douglas's voice was calm, yet insistent: "Kaitlyn, I'll support you with every resource I have."

I didn't know what Douglas really wanted. He spoke only of support until his true intention slipped out: "On one condition, Kaitlyn. Marriage... to me. Of course, Martin will file for divorce, and your first marriage will be over."

Shock hit me. Marriage. And Douglas... I was still reeling from the repeated blows of betrayal-from my husband's infidelity to my being thrown in prison.

I gave him no answer. Douglas promised himself he wouldn't give up until he got me out and delivered the justice I deserved. He stood slowly, took a deep breath, and said, "I'll wait for your answer. Take your time to think, but know I'm here to help you."

Then he turned to leave the room, leaving me alone with my conflicting thoughts, wondering about the difficult decision I had to make. I knew Douglas was Martin's greatest enemy. His sworn rival.

---

Seven months and two weeks had passed. Months had already gone by. Martin never visited me. I still couldn't understand why he felt compelled to treat me this way. I hadn't wronged him once. We were happy until I couldn't bear a child. I read in the news that Theresa had recovered and returned to work.

What she did was deliberate. As a doctor, she knew exactly where to stab to avoid killing me. Nine months had passed, and Martin had never shown up, not even briefly.

I looked at my belly, caressing it, tears in my eyes. It had been the only source of joy I'd felt since being imprisoned. At some point, I had wanted to end my life, but when I remembered the twins growing inside me, I imagined them growing up, becoming two people I would love more than anything.

The sound of footsteps caught my attention. I looked up to see a prison guard approaching. "Prisoner 3290, please come with me. You have a visitor," she said. I wondered who it could be.

Normally, I was an orphan. No one visited me. I had no family to belong to. I nodded and struggled to rise from the floor, following the guard.

We reached the visiting room. She opened the door, and a pale man with gray hair appeared. I had never seen him before. He noticed the confusion on my face and stood.

"Please sit. I'm not here to hurt you. I just came to give you this from your husband." He pointed to a file on the desk. I sat and took the papers. When I opened them, I saw the words in bold: "Divorce Agreement."

Tears threatened to spill down my cheeks, but I held myself together. I hadn't cried in nine months. This wouldn't break me now. I had been expecting the divorce papers because I knew this was what would come next.

As I opened the agreement, my eyes landed on the alimony. I couldn't believe he was treating me like some cheap person. "Who gives ten percent in alimony? He's rich, he earns more than many business owners," I thought, pain rising in my chest again. But I refused to let it bother me. I didn't want the money, nor did I plan to accept it.

I looked at the lawyer in front of me. "Please, your pen." He nodded and passed it to me. I had no regrets. I signed the papers, handed them back, and left the room.

I returned to my cell, collapsed onto the floor, and let the tears flow. It was too much for me to hold in.

The man I had loved, the one I gave everything to, had thrown me away like trash. And that wasn't enough.. he accused me of something I never did, and now I was paying a prison sentence for a crime I never committed. I cried until I couldn't feel my tears anymore. I sat in the corner of my room, lost in deep thoughts. I remembered the last three years with him.

I was deep in my thoughts when a sharp pain struck my side, and I screamed.

A prison guard ran to help me. I tried to get up, but I couldn't. He crouched beside me. "Are you okay?"

I clutched my side. "No! My side, it hurts so much. I can barely move my leg." I cried, holding my side as the guard tried to help me rise.

I screamed without stopping, drawing the attention of other guards and inmates. They came to help and carried me to the prison hospital. As soon as we reached the entrance, blood began to flow from my thigh.
