Genre: Romance
Scarlett entered into a flash marriage with a man whom she had never seen before. One year later, she filed for divorce from her mysterious husband, hoping to lead a peaceful life as a single woman. She had no idea that it wasn't going to happen anytime soon. Elias, the CEO of a million-dollar company, was said to be a man who had no interest in women. Strangely, he took an interest in Scarlett. Scarlett tried all she could to get him off her back, but he just wouldn't stop. When she couldn't take it anymore, she showed him her marriage certificate and said, "I'm a married woman. I can't date you!" Elias snatched her marriage certificate and pointed to the photo on it as he smiled. "Even better! It's high time I introduced myself. Hey, I'm Elias Roberts, your husband!" Scarlett was shocked to the bone. She couldn't believe that her mysterious husband was actually the CEO of a top company! How the hell did this happen?

Chapter 1 The Terrible First Night With Her Husband

In the dimly lit Roberts' residence, incense filled every corner with its aroma.

Seated on the luxurious bed, Scarlett Wallace stared at her untouched wedding dress, feeling as if she were in a dream.

Just days ago, she couldn't have imagined marrying a man she barely knew.

This night marked the beginning of her unexpected union with a stranger, but Scarlett held no regrets.

Her actions were driven by the need to pay for her grandmother's medical bills.

As Scarlett waited anxiously, the door burst open, revealing a tall figure entering the room.

The dim lighting concealed his face as he walked in, his back to the light source.

"Mr. Roberts, everything has been prepared," a servant said respectfully, bowing before leaving the room and closing the door softly behind her.

Scarlett's heart pounded. She stood up instinctively.

Before she could speak, the man sneered, "What did you do to gain my grandmother's favor, forcing me into this marriage? Your manipulation is repulsive."

Scarlett's face drained of color; she didn't expect such hostility from her new husband.

Ella Roberts, the grandmother he mentioned, had favored Scarlett, arranging the marriage with her grandson and covering Scarlett's grandmother's hefty medical bills.

Bound by duty to her family, Scarlett had no choice but to accept.

Unknown to Scarlett, her husband deeply resented the forced marriage.

She acknowledged that she should have understood the situation sooner, particularly given his refusal to participate in their wedding ceremony.

Trying to explain, Scarlett stepped forward, saying, "You've misunderstood. I..."

But dizziness struck her.

Her body wobbled, and she fell toward the man before her.

Elias Roberts' expression turned sour.

Was this bold woman trying to seduce him?

He intended to push her away, but when he felt her soft form against him, an involuntary tension seized his lower body, sparking an unexpected reaction.

Elias's eyes darkened. He firmly grasped the woman's arm and snapped, "Damn it! What are you doing to me?"

Scarlett, her body aflame, barely registered his words. Instinctively, she held on to him tightly.

Suddenly, Scarlett found herself thrust onto the bed.

His imposing figure loomed over her. Despite herself, she reached out, seeking a deeper connection.

But almost immediately, she was flung aside onto the bed.

"You're deceitful. Attempting to trap me in such a disgraceful way," Elias accused, fighting his own arousal and sneering coldly. "But you won't succeed! I find you despicable. I'd rather die than touch you!"

With that, Elias turned his back, refusing to look at her again. He stormed out, slamming the door behind him.

Left alone, Scarlett lay on the bed, overwhelmed by the ordeal, slowly slipping into unconsciousness.

Chapter 2 Her Husband Came Back

A year had flown by.

That evening, after her part-time job, Scarlett visited Ella's villa.

As she entered, she caught fragments of a whispered conversation among the servants.

"Did you notice anything odd about Mrs. Roberts lately? It seems like forever since we've last seen her around."

"Ah, the distinguished Mrs. Roberts? She's always busy. Who knows what she does all day?"

"Does she truly merit the title of Mrs. Roberts? A year ago, she so upset Mr. Roberts on their wedding night that he left the country in fury. He's been apathetic towards her for a whole year. She's merely Mrs. Roberts in name. What a laughing stock!"

"Mr. Roberts swore he'd never accept her as his wife. If it weren't for his grandmother's compassion, Scarlett would have been dismissed long ago."

"In my view, she is utterly ineffectual. She can't even hold onto her husband. I don't see why Mr. Roberts' grandmother is so fond of her."

The memory of her husband abandoning her on their wedding night had cast a shadow over Scarlett's heart.

She had spent the past year trying to forget, but the servants' murmurs were like needles, reopening the wounds of that humiliating night.

Scarlett bit her lip, feeling a tightness in her chest.

She clenched her fists, unaware of her nails pressing into her skin.

Suddenly, the servants stopped talking. "Ella's coming. Let's halt this conversation," one whispered.

They dispersed, leaving Scarlett to confront her thoughts alone.

Seeing Ella, Scarlett quickly composed herself. She took a deep breath, fixed a smile, and greeted her, "Grandma."

Ella, seeing her, beamed and took her hand. "Scarlett, you're back at last. I have great news. Your husband is returning tonight to see you!"

Scarlett froze, her breath catching once more.

Ella then offered a remorseful explanation. "Scarlett, I need to apologize for that night. I added incense to your wedding room to enhance the mood. I was too eager and wanted to create an intimate atmosphere for your wedding night. Unfortunately, it was a misstep."

With a soft sigh, Ella added earnestly, "Thankfully, he's back now. Don't worry. I'll support you in repairing your relationship, and he will make amends to you."

Scarlett pressed her lips together and consoled Ella, "Grandma, it's alright. Let's look ahead."

She wasn't overly concerned about fixing things with her husband.

Throughout the past year, working various part-time jobs, Scarlett had gathered enough money for the medical expenses and had been considering a divorce.

The timing of Elias's return seemed almost fated.

Ella, convinced that Scarlett and Elias would reconcile, smiled optimistically.

She said in a calming voice, "He should be home this evening. You two can have dinner together. I'll give you privacy and stay out for the night."

Scarlett, not wanting to upset Ella, accepted the plan with reluctance.

The thought of seeing her husband after a year stirred a mix of emotions within her.

Sitting at a table laden with exquisite dishes, Scarlett waited eagerly, yet Elias didn't show up.

A sense of disappointment settled in her heart.

She gazed at the elaborate dinner, pondering its impending waste.

After some time, the sound of footsteps approached.

Could it be her husband finally returning?

Scarlett's heart fluttered with a blend of hope and apprehension. She lifted her gaze, anticipating his entrance.

Chapter 3 The New Divorce Agreement

"Hello, Mrs. Roberts. I am the attorney Mr. Roberts has appointed to discuss the divorce terms with you. My name is Royce White," Royce announced, promptly extending the prepared divorce papers.

Scarlett was taken aback, never expecting her husband would initiate a divorce the day he returned.

She reflexively inquired, "Is Grandma aware of this?"

Ella had orchestrated her marriage into the Roberts family, envisioning a life filled with harmony and joy for them.

Just moments ago, Ella was delighted at the prospect of her reuniting with her husband. Scarlett pondered whether Ella knew about Elias's plans.

Royce offered a vague smile and replied in a persuasive tone, "Miss Wallace, there's no need for Ella to know. If you sign this, you'll receive fair compensation. If you decline, you'll forfeit any benefits."

Scarlett took the divorce papers and read through them.

Although Elias offered a generous settlement, Scarlett firmly stated, "I can't consent to this agreement as it stands."

Royce's brow creased, ready to insist further.

Scarlett continued at a measured pace, "I am open to divorce, but I must draft a new agreement."

Royce, recalling Elias's directive, "As long as she consents to divorce, any condition can be negotiated," nodded in agreement.

"As long as you're willing to divorce, we can draft a new agreement," Royce concurred.

In the dark night, the top floor of the Roberts Group was still ablaze with light.

The door to the meeting room was ajar, and Elias, having finished a long meeting, walked out.

His assistant, Jude Green, followed with documents in hand. "Sir, you have a video conference with branch managers in ten minutes."

Elias nodded, then paused abruptly. Turning to Jude with an icy look, he asked quietly, "What's the status of the divorce papers?"

Jude responded quickly, "Royce has been dispatched to meet with Mrs. Roberts."

Elias cast a chilling glance at Jude and questioned, "Mrs. Roberts?"

Jude quickly corrected himself. "I apologize. Royce just informed me that she's agreed to the divorce."

Elias, caught off guard, remarked sarcastically, "I expected as much. That woman couldn't resist the compensation I offered in the agreement. She married me for money, after all."

"Actually, Mr. Roberts, she declined your compensation. She's demanding a redraft of the divorce agreement to relinquish all marital assets," Jude continued, his voice reflecting his astonishment. "Moreover, she instructed Royce to give her a bank card, expressing her intent to repay the medical expenses she owes, with interest."

Jude then presented the revised divorce agreement to Elias.

Elias was taken aback, not foreseeing that the woman would choose to repay the funds a year later.

He found himself questioning if she was as mercenary as he had believed.

For the first time, Elias felt a flicker of curiosity about his wife.

However, with an upcoming meeting, he dismissed these thoughts and signed the agreement without a second look. "Inform the lawyer to expedite this. I want the divorce finalized immediately."

Yet, Ella intercepted the divorce agreement before it could reach the attorney.

That evening, Elias received a call from Ella.

"Elias, how can you divorce your wife?! I don't consent to this. You cannot proceed with the divorce!"

"Grandma, I have no need for a wife."

Ella inhaled sharply and then stated, "I'm aware you've returned with a child this time. I won't pry into the child's origins if you prefer not to discuss it. Perhaps you can manage without a wife, but that young child surely needs a mother, doesn't he?"

Upon hearing this, Elias halted, a brief moment of uncertainty overtaking him.

Ella suggested, "Let's do this, Elias. Preserve your marriage for another three months, for the child's sake. If you still desire a divorce after that, I won't object."

After a moment of silence, Elias agreed reluctantly, "Fine, I consent."

With Elias's promise in hand, Ella promptly contacted Scarlett.

"Scarlett, I've secured an excellent job opportunity for you. It's a part-time tutoring role for a child with special needs, and the pay is quite generous. Would you be interested?"

Facing the burden of medical bills, Scarlett urgently needed funds and agreed without a second thought.

The next day, Scarlett made her way to the address Ella had given her, arriving at a grand villa.

The gates' detailed carvings were both intricate and elegant.

Scarlett pressed the doorbell and waited. Shortly, a servant emerged, inviting her in.

Moments later, in the living room, she caught sight of the villa's owner.

The man before her was striking in both looks and presence.

Engrossed in her resume, Elias asked without looking up, "Are you here for the tutoring interview today?"

Scarlett felt a hint of surprise. His voice carried a strangely familiar tone.
