"He'd love this" , Jennifer's eye's sparkled as she stared at the bouquet of flowers she had just gotten for her boyfriend, Damian.
She had been away for a few weeks on a business trip with her colleague and was supposed to return after a few days but everything got sorted out early. She was excited to see the surprise on his face, he told her last night on how they couldn't spend their fifth year anniversary due to her travel.
The thought of surprising him made her blush, she wanted to feel his warm hugs and touch once more. Her heart began to skip a bit , she felt like a teenager again.
As she relaxed into her car headed for his office, she tuned into her favorite radio Playlist channel. Just as she gets lost into the the music and her daydreams, the DJ's voice cut through.
"And there we have it people, Actress and Model Bella Ross ties the knot with millionaire Business man, Damian Thomas."
Jennifer's heart stopped. Which Damian? Hers? Married? The words kept echoing in her head refusing to understand. It felt like someone had just punched her in the guts , her eyes began to well up tears.
It had to be a joke. She stretched to get her phone not noticing the approaching truck until it begins horning.
Was this her end? She could hear the sound of the ambulance , distant murmuring from passerby and medics.
Her life had just crashed in a blink of an eye ,he was the only man she had ever loved, they dated privately for 5 years from college and he engages another. Was it a crime to love that hard?
She wanted to live , she couldn't leave her younger sister here in this cruel world. Erica was her only blood related family.

Jennifer's eyes flustered open as she noticed her current environment- the hospital. She could still feel a slight headache from the accident.
"You shouldn't try move too quickly, we were lucky your accident was just minor. We've stitched up your wounds so you'll be OK." The doctor replied with a warm smile.
Jennifer's eyes widened as the doctors words sank in , she was alive and well.
"Maybe try resting up a bit, you must reduce the stress. That's what's adviceable for you and the baby"
Jennifer's heart stopped. Baby? What baby?
"Baby?" She responded, unable to comprehend what the doctor had just said.
The doctor stared at her in amazement, "you're three weeks pregnant Miss, congratulations ", he smiled.
Jennifer's mind began to wander, pregnant? She didn't have any idea. This news brought in mixed emotions, everything seemed to be happening so fast. She just wanted to go home and cry her eyes out.
She felt disappointed in herself, she beared the child of a man who abandoned and blocked her from reaching him. She didn't want her child to face what she went through being an orphan.
Her mother had dumped her at the orphanage at the age of four with her little sister and never came back. Tears began to roll down her cheeks as she picks up her bag and phone and headed out of the hospital.
She turned on her phone and noticed her phone was put on the Do Not Disturb mode then switched it off. Notifications began to pop up, she's surprised by the amount of missed calls she had gotten from her sister, Erica.
She proceeded to call back, "hey, sis" Jennifer said, her voice a bit shaky.
"Where are you Jen? You flight should have arrived hours ago." Erica lamented with a bit of worry in her voice. "...and why haven't you been picking up your calls, did you forget what today was?"
Jennifer hits her head, it totally crossed her mind. She had promised to show up for Erica's art exhibition in school, she stared at the clock just in the middle of the hospital hallway, it was already 5pm. How long had she been here?
"I'm so sorry Erica, where are you currently? I'll come over and get you" Jennifer responded as she walked out of the hospital.
"Nevermind, I'll board a taxi back home now" Erica replied before ending the call.
Jennifer felt guilty, she had not just stood her sister up once again. She actually wanted to be there for her as Erica never invited her for any event because she was never available. She had personally asked Erica if she could attend in order to bond well with her sister.
She boarded a taxi and headed back home. Some few minutes later Erica barged in, Jennifer tried to apologize but Erica cuts her in.
"You always do this Jen" she yelled, her voice filled with frustration. "You never have time for me, it's always one excuse or the other. Just when I decide to give you a chance to redeem yourself, you go ahead and do this again".
Jennifer listened ntensively to her sister, her anger was justified. "I'm sorry Erica, you see I was in an accident and lost track of time"
"Rightt, the misfortunes always happen whenever you're supposed to be with me" Erica interrupts. "I already made dinner before hand, have yours and don't wait for me, I'm heading out after I take a shower."
Erica's placed her purse furiously on the table before heading to the shower.
"I'll make it up to you" Jennifer cried out to her sister who had just barged into the bathroom. Just then, Erica's purse falls off as Jennifer tries to place her phone on the table.
Her eyes stumbles on an invite, being curious on what it was, she pulled it out and read it through. "The Thomas mansion...waitstaff invite", why was her sister taking up a waitress job? She made a promise to herself years ago that she was going to take total responsibility on her sister, making sure she didn't lack anything, the same way she was trained and taking care of by her Godfather. She never wanted the thought of not having parents cross her sister's mind.
The Thomas mansion, the sound of it ignited fire in her, without hesitating she snatched the invitation and puts it in her bag and makes her way out the door. She was going to confront Damian tonight at his wedding party.
Jennifer stared at the glamorous interior at the Thomas mansion. Her heart raced with anticipation and worry, how was that night going to end?
The hall was filled with many businessmen and influential people in the country, as her eyes scanned through the hall, she could see the Manager of the company she worked for present.
There she was, dressed as a waitress, carrying a tray with glasses of wine admist the crowd while trying to hide her face from most familiar faces.
She was an orphan but she was quite known a bit as Chairman Evans Secretary and righthand man as he was very fond of her and made sure she attended some events in his name or accompanied him.
Just then she spots Damian who was next to his newly wedded wife, Bella with family and friends, there he stood tall and confident, he structured body looked perfectly fitted in his tuxedo. His brown eyes sparkled as he smiled and brushed back his brown curly hair with his hand.
As soon as Damian stepped away to greet other guests, Jennifer made her way towards his direction.
She reached up to him and grabbed his arm a bit before letting go and stretching the tray to him, "wine, sir?" She said, her heart pounding fast.
Her eyes locks with Damian's and he recognizes her immediately, takes a glass of wine and deliberately attempts to turn his back at her. The message was clear, he didn't want to speak with her but Jennifer wasn't just going to stop here.
"We have to talk, meet me at the storeroom beside the kitchen. You wouldn't want me to cause a commotion, five minutes" Jennifer spoke her voice barely above whispered.
"What's there to talk about Jennifer, can we just move on with our lives and pretend we've never known each other" Damian whispered, his back facing Jennifer's.
Jennifer scoffs, "five minutes", she said before walking out of the hall and heading to the storeroom.
Damian followed by few minutes later and closed the door behind him. The light of the room was dim and the only sound that could be heard was the ticking of the clock.
Damian broke the silence, "so," his voice neutral. "Why is it so hard for you to read the room? I didn't pick your calls, wasn't that enough reason for you to understand that I'm done with whatever we have."
Jennifer's eyes widened, her eyes fell pale. "Really, was that all you can say? You know I came here wondering if I did something wrong or if you were on some kind of pressure, that wasn't the reason?"
She continues, "what happened in the past few weeks that made you change this much. You sounded OK on the phone too, was everything you told me a lie? Was everything we've experienced together being just for fun"
Damian's expression remained neutral.
"I want to know" Jennifer yelled, tears already rolling down her cheeks. " why you betrayed me after all these years, fool me and get married to someone else."
"And what's there to talk about huh" Damian replied being defensive, "fool you? All these while you've fooled me too into believing I loved you and would like to settle in for an orphan."
"I'm a business man Jennifer, I'll be made Chairman of Thomas Groups soon. What exactly do I gain from marrying an ordinary Secretary. I'll be honest with you, I've always felt trapped and suffocated in our relationship. We're not in the same class Jennifer" he said, his voice low and even while fixes his gaze at Jennifer's teary eye.
Jennifer's eyes narrowed, her heart pounding fast. " so why wait till after five years?" She responds, her voice trembled with emotions.
"I was bored, I needed a toy to play with." He replies with a dirty smirk on his face. "You were just something I needed for my amusement, was that what you wanted to hear?"
Jennifer's eyes sparked with rage and anger, she felt the urge to stab him with a knife for referring to her as a toy, she raised her hand and slapped him.
Damian's face flattened, "I hope we never cross paths again" he said, his eyes blazed with fury. "Try taking jobs like this, it suits your class" he snapped, before leaving the room.
Jennifer is left in shock after what had just happened, she fell to the floor with her face buried in her hands, weeping. It had to be all a lie right? Everything they shared never felt fake nor untrue to her, she couldn't even try picturing everything in that scenario.
She wanted to make herself believe that could be the reason their relationship wasn't public but that wasn't the case as she was the one who asked for a private and lowkey relationship, everything didn't seem to make sense.
What was she going to tell her child when it's born, that it doesn't have a father because she was just used as a sex toy for the father's amusement.
She sat still sobering up before making her way out of the door to headed to the bar.

Jennifer sprang up from bed by the sound of her alarm, it was already 7am but her body didn't feel the need to prepare for work today. She was the breadwinner of the family and had to work I order to make her sister live comfortably just as the Chairman did for her while growing up. Her head ached a bit, how had she gotten home last night?
She stared at the table in the living room and noticed Erica hadn't taken her pay from last night job, what exactly was she thinking, of course she was going to be angry, reason why she left the house early too.
She tried calling her but her phone wasn't reachable, she sent her an apology sms, promising to tell her everything that was going on in her life recently, she needed family at this point.
She arrived at work and headed for the Chairman's office and noticed he wasn't on seat. She had tried reaching him before she returned back from her business trip but he never responded or returned her calls. She tried giving him a call again but it remained the same as before.
As she heads out of the office in order to speak to the Manager, a call came in. "Hello, Jennifer speaking" she said whilst approaching the office.
"Uhhhn, Goodmorning, uhmmm Erica fainted at the Library and she kept bleeding from her nose." The voice said.
Jennifer's eye's widened in alarm "What!!, Erica fainted?" She explained, her voice trembling with fear.
She had just pushed open the manager's door but slammed it shut immediately as her priorities shifted making her rush out of the office.
"I called 911 and she has been rushed to GK hospital" the voice said before ending the call.
Jennifer rushed out of the company before she collided with a colleague.
"I have to go, it's an emergency" she replied hastily before existing the building.
Jennifer's eyes widened as she saw her sister laying lifeless and pale on the stretcher. Her heart began to ache as she rushed towards them," Erica!! , Erica, please don't do this to me" she called out, her face covered in tears as she followed the paramedic towards the ICU.
"You need to wait right here ma'am. Who are you?" A nurse interrogated.
"She's my sister, please save her" she lamented, her eyes already swollen from the constant crying. Everything seemed to be getting out of control making her helpless. She crashed down to the floor and began to sob, silently praying for her sister's recovery.
The doctor headed out of the ICU few hours later, "Miss?" He called Jennifer whose face was faced down weeping.
"Jennifer" she replied as she stood up, wiping away her tears. "How's my sister, Doctor?"
His facial expression became sober, "I'm afraid the situation has escalated."
Jennifer's eyes widened, "how doctor?"
"Your sister has blood cancer, it appears she had been undergoing treatment however, the treatment do not seem to be working anymore. "
Treatment? This was a shocker to her. Her sister never mentioned any of it to her before , whyy?
"What can we do to save her" she replied desperately without hesitating
"A bone marrow transplant is her best chance of recovery," the doctor explained
She nodded quickly, "Let's do it then , do whatever it takes."
"Uhmmm the thing is, this transplant will require the substantial amount of 15 million dains"
Jennifer took a quick gulp of her own spit but didn't hesitate, "I'll get the money , begin with the transplant immediately."
The Doctor's expression changed with a slight frown, " The thing is, we can't operate without the full payment being paid."
Jennifer began to bit her nails, she wasn't sure on what to do. Grandfather, yes, he was definitely going to help her.
"Give me some few hours doctor, I'll get the money" she responded hurriedly.
"Please do hurry, every minute counts and we must start the transplant as soon as possible"
She hurriedly rushed out of the hospital, wondering why all these were happening, Why didn't her sister inform her about it. She could've helped, was that why she constantly demanded for money for some school related issues and took side jobs?
Jennifer's boarded a taxi as she headed to the Evans mansion. The Chairman loved and cherished her so much, he had helped her throughout her childhood at the orphanage. He sponsored her education , got her a car after graduation and made her his secretary at his company.
They shared a father and grand daughter relationship and their bond was much stronger than that of his Children.
As she pulled up at the Evans mansion, she raced towards the door and hits the doorbell repeatedly before the butler opened the door eventually.
"Morris, I'd like to see Grandfather" she protests in a rush.
"Miss Jennifer, I do not think that will be possible. The situation..." the butler responded before being interrupted by a man.
"So this is the Jennifer I've heard so much about hmm?" The man spoke harshly, one could sense so much anger in his words.
Jennifer stared at him. Who was he? And why did it seem like he resented her? His face appeared a little bit familiar, and she tried recollecting where she had seen his face before.
"I'll excuse you sir" Morris bowed before excusing himself.
"You wouldn't be needed here anymore" he warned with a stern look on his eye.
"Sir, allow me introduce myself properly. I'm.." Jennifer insisted before being cut off by the the man. He moves closely to her.
"I know who you are alright, you've been brainwashing my dad into giving you money and helping your misfortune."
Jennifer stood still, dad? He must be the Chairman's Son, Paul Evans. That must mean the Chairman's family were back in the country. She could hear the chattering inside the house.
"I'm so sorry Sir" she kneeled and immediately began sobbing. "I just need to meet Grandfather, he'll understand" she concluded.
"Grandfather? He's sick and laying on his sick bed right now. Aren't you his secretary? What exactly have you done to him? You should be lucky I let you keep your Job" He yelled fiercely.
Jennifer eyes widened in surprise, how was that possible? He was alright when she left on the business trip, He had insisted on she being part of the trip.
"Grandfather, Grandfather!!" She began yelling in protest, trying to struggle to get her way in.
Paul who was getting irritated with her behavior called for security to throw her out of the house. Jennifer repeatedly pleaded with him, Grandfather was the only person who could help her at that short period of time.
Just as the securities pulled her out of the mansion , she sighted Damian's car parked at the garage. It couldn't be him, could it? She asked herself, wondering why he would be at the mansion.
Being thrown out of the Evans mansion, Jennifer tried giving the Chairman a call once more but he didn't pick up.
She's left wondering how he was doing, she hasn't been able to reach him for the past two weeks now. She was going to contact Morris later to find out the situation in the house.
She boards a taxi heading to the office, hoping to get an advance pay in order to pay for her sister's treatment.
Just as she arrived at the company she rushed towards the manager's office, her attempts end up in vein as the manager declines assisting even after explaining her situation claiming it was against the Company's policy and he had gotten permission from the new acting Chairman to detest from giving her any funds when it wasn't due.
"Why don't you try getting a loan from the bank. They should be able to grant you the money you need" the manager suggests, his eyes filled with pity and hope.
Jennifer sighed, the bank was going to get closed any moment from now, was it going to be possible? She had to get the money somehow, she had about 2.3 dains in her possession and it wasn't going to solve anything, Erica's life were on her hands
Her attempts to get the loan backfires as the employees refuse to pay her any proper attention as it was almost their closing hour.
She walked along the deserted road with a heavy heart of disappointment. She was going to try giving the doctor what she had, she couldn't possibly find a buyer for her car as it was heavily damaged from the accident.
Suddenly it began to rain but she kept walking, her mind fixed on getting to the hospital on time. A car on full speed begins moving towards her direction as she kept walking in the middle of the road not realizing.
In a blink of an eye, a man rushes in and saves her, pulling her to the end of the road.
"Miss Jennifer, are you ok?" He asked in a warm tone, using an umbrella to shield her from the downpour of the rain.
She stared at him blankly trying to recognize the unfamiliar face.
"Who are you? How do you know my name?" She asks reluctantly.
"Let's have this conversation over there" he responds, his finger pointed all the supermarket few walks from where they were.
Jennifer disagreed, she wasn't going to wait and have discussions with a random stranger who had just saved her life. She needed to be at the hospital by her sister and trying to sort out those pending bills, she proceeded to leave.
"Our conversation might just be the answers to all your problem" He calls out.
Jennifer is taken aback, her curiosity intrigued. Who was this man and how did he know she had problems or to what extent exactly did he actually know?
She turned back to face him. " What do you mean?" She asked cautiously.
The stranger smiled with a faint mysterious curve on his lips, he moved closely to her, and places an umbrella over her as they moved to the supermarket.
