Chapter 1 The Last Time

Accidental Dad, Intentional Love

Written by: Young Codex

Chapter One

Yeah. I'm a prostitute.

The words echoed in my mind as I stared at the mirror in my dimly lit bedroom. My reflection didn't lie, no matter how much I wished it would. This was my life, and tonight? Tonight would be my last time.

I couldn't keep living this way. I'd paid off 80% of the debts that chained me to this mess, but my soul couldn't take another minute of it. My chest tightened as my phone beeped. I knew what that sound meant-it was time.

I grabbed my gum and chewed loudly, almost as if the obnoxious sound would drown out the storm in my head. The heels went on, the dress hugged my body perfectly, and I took one last look in the mirror.

" Eva, This is it," I whispered to no one but myself.

The hotel room was upscale-pristine, almost clinical. He was waiting, tall and intimidating, his suit perfectly tailored to his powerful build. He wasn't like the others, though. They were sometimes hungry and rough but not him. There was something about him that made me pause. His gaze was sharp, scanning me like he was trying to read the story behind my eyes.

"What's your name?" he asked, voice low and steady.

I smiled, a practiced, professional smile;and dug into his skin tighter "Let's not complicate things."

That night was different.

With him, it wasn't rushed or mechanical. He didn't treat me like a transaction, and for the first time in a long time, I let myself feel something. It wasn't love, but it was intimate in a way I didn't expect. I'd always been good at keeping emotions out of the job, but this time... this time, I didn't want to.

When it was over, I stayed awake in the bed long after he left, staring at the ceiling and replaying every moment.

MONTHS LATER

I hadn't planned to think about him again, but life had other plans. The nausea came first, then the exhaustion, and then the undeniable truth: I was pregnant.

My first instinct was to panic. Abortions had always been an option for women like me, but when I thought about that tiny heartbeat, I couldn't do it. I couldn't.

But I also couldn't raise this child alone. Not after how I grew up-fatherless and feeling like half of me was missing. My baby deserved better, even if I had to fight for it.

The office building was massive, intimidating, and reeked of power. But I wasn't here to be intimidated. I was here for my child.

I marched into his office, unannounced. The receptionist's protests faded as I pushed the door open. He was behind the desk inscribed - Lucas Gold, engrossed in something on his laptop, until he saw me. His eyes; a glint of recognition.

"You," he said, leaning back in his chair.

"Yeah, me," I replied, crossing my arms.

His brow furrowed. "What do you want? More money?"

I laughed bitterly. "You think this is about money? You think I need your money?"

He leaned forward, his gaze cold. "Then what?"

"I'm pregnant !" I said like it was some bombshell

"So you're going to tell me I'm the father, right? Do you even know how many men..."

"Don't," I snapped, cutting him off. "Don't you dare finish that sentence."

He raised an eyebrow, surprised by my tone.

"I'm not here for your money. I don't need anything from you except one thing-your presence. My baby isn't growing up without a father. Not like I did."

He stared at me for a long time, the silence heavy between us. "You think you can just show up here and-"

"I don't think," I interrupted, my voice steady. "I know. You're the father. And you're going to step up, whether you like it or not."

He leaned back again, exhaling sharply. "You have some nerve."

"You have no idea," I shot back, holding his gaze.

I stared into his eyes and I could read them, guilt...But I didn't care what he was feeling. This wasn't about him.

This was about my baby.

Chapter Two

I slammed the office door behind me, my heart racing. My hands trembled as I clutched my bag tightly. He had no idea what I'd gone through just to stand in that room and tell him the truth.

I stood from my seat, my heels echoing with each step, but I didn't get far - not even to the door. His voice stopped me.

"Wait."

I froze. My pulse pounded in my ears as I turned around slowly. He stood in the doorway, his expression unreadable.

"What proof do you have?" he asked, his tone cold, calculated.

I blinked. Proof? He wanted proof? My blood boiled.

"You think I'd come all the way here and lie about this?" I shot back, my voice shaking with anger. "I don't have time for games."

"Neither do I," he replied, his jaw tightening. "You want me to believe this is my problem? Show me."

I reached into my bag, yanking out the ultrasound photo I'd carried with me like a lifeline. I shoved it into his chest. "There. Proof. Happy now?"

He glanced at it briefly, his expression still frustratingly neutral. "This doesn't prove anything."

I laughed bitterly. "Of course, it doesn't. Why would I expect anything else from a man who only sees people as transactions?"

His eyes narrowed. "Watch it."

"No, you watch it," I snapped, stepping closer. "I'm not here because I want anything from you. I'm here because this baby-your baby-deserves better than the crap I grew up with. And if you're too much of a coward to step up, just say it."

For a moment, the air between us was suffocating. His gaze burned into mine, but I refused to look away.

Finally, he spoke, his voice low. "You've got a lot of nerve coming here and making demands."

"Yeah, I do," I said, my voice breaking. "Because I don't have a choice. You think this is easy for me? I've spent months trying to figure out how to do this alone, and I can't. I can't do it alone."

but before he could respond, the door burst open behind him.

"Sir, there's an urgent call-" his assistant began but froze when she saw me.

"Get out," he barked, his tone sharp. She scrambled out, closing the door behind her.

I took a shaky breath, feeling the weight of the confrontation crashing down on me. "You don't have to decide now," I said quietly. "But you will. Because I'm not going anywhere."

Before he could say anything else, I turned and walked away.

By the time I hit the street, the adrenaline was fading, leaving me drained. The cold wind bit at my skin as I wrapped my coat tighter around me.

I made it to the corner before I felt the first tear slip down my cheek.

"This is for the baby," I whispered to myself. "You can do this."

But just as I was about to hail a cab, I felt someone grab my arm. I spun around, ready to fight, only to see him standing there, his expression darker than ever.

"What now?" I asked, yanking my arm free.

I crossed my arms. "What do you want me to do? Beg? I already said my piece. The rest is up to you."

He stared at me for a long moment before running a hand through his hair. "this isn't it?."

"No," I agreed. "It's not."

I turned again, walking away for good this time.

But as I got into the cab, I couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to get a whole lot more complicated.

Chapter 3 Three

Chapter Three

I was still shaking when I got into the cab. My stomach churned, but I told myself it was just hormones. Or the baby. Everything felt too much right now, the cold look in his eyes, the way he demanded proof like I'd lied, and the anger boiling under my skin.

I pressed my hand against my belly. It's okay, baby. We'll figure this out. I promise.

The cab jolted forward, and I leaned my head against the window. The city lights blurred, but I couldn't relax. Something didn't feel right. My heart wouldn't stop racing, and it wasn't just from the fight with him.

It felt like I was being watched.

~~~
The cab stopped a block from my apartment. I stepped out, pulling my coat tighter. The streets were quieter than usual, the air biting at my cheeks. I walked quickly, my heels clicking on the pavement, but then I heard it a second set of footsteps, heavy and deliberate right behind me.
I froze.
The sound stopped.
Slowly, I turned around, scanning the dark. My breath fogged in the air. Nothing. No one.
Get a grip, Eva. You're just being paranoid.
I shook my head and turned back toward my building. But then a voice cut through the silence.
"Who else if not the great Eva."
My heart dropped.
I didn't need to see him to know who it was. That voice had haunted me for years.
"Damian," I whispered, spinning around.
He stepped out of the dark, a smirk gummed across his face. His suit was slick, his smile slicker, but his eyes? They were cold, cruel.
"Long time no see," he drawled, his hands shoved into his pockets like he had all the time in the world.
"What do you want?" I forced my voice to stay steady, but I could feel the tremor in my hands.
He tilted his head, pretending to think. "What do I want? Oh, I don't know. Maybe a little chat about your new life? About that CEO you just came out of a meeting with?"
My blood turned cold. "Were you following me?"
He laughed. "You make it sound so sinister. I prefer to call it... keeping tabs. You know you still owe me, right? You walked away before paying your full debt."
"I'm done with that life," I said firmly.
"Are you?" He stepped closer, and I instinctively backed away. "Because it sure looks like you've found yourself another... opportunity. Does he know about your little side hustle? How you took extra cash that night?"
My chest tightened. "You don't know anything about me."
"I know enough," he sneered. "And unless you want me walking into his office tomorrow with all the juicy details, you're going to do exactly what I say."
I clenched my fists. "I'm not going back, Damian. You can threaten me all you want, but I'm not doing it."
His smile vanished, replaced by something darker. "Oh, you'll do it. Because if you don't, I'll make sure your new baby daddy knows exactly what kind of woman he's dealing with. And trust me, he won't want anything to do with you or that kid."
Fear hit me, 'how did he know about my baby?'
In reflex, I rubbed my lower abdomen, a little like was growing inside of me and I'd protect at all cost
Tears stung my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. "Stay away from me," I hissed.
He leaned in close, his voice dropping to a whisper. "You have until tomorrow, Eva. Don't make me come find you again."
~~~

As soon as he disappeared into the night, my legs gave out. I sat on the cold sidewalk, gasping for air. My hands were shaking so badly I could barely pull my phone out of my bag.

I dialed his number the CEO.

He answered on the third ring, his voice annoyed. "What now?"

"I need your help," I choked out. Anyone could sense the tension in my voice.

There was a pause. " about?"

"Someone from my past... he's threatening me. He knows about our baby." My voice broke.

"He's your baby remember?" I heard him say.

He could even be this cold at this point that I didn't even know I started crying. So loud

"Calm down," he said sharply. "Who is it?"

I paused in my tears

"His name is Damian. He used to" I stopped myself, the shame choking me. "He was part of my old life. He wants money, or he'll tell you everything."

The line went silent.

Then, finally, he spoke, his voice low and cold. "Where are you?"

"I'm outside my apartment."

"Go inside. Lock the door. Don't let anyone in. I'll handle it."

"But"

"Now, Eva," he snapped. "Do as I say."

The line went dead, and I stared at the phone, my heart pounding. Now, curiosity pick at me as I wasn't sure if I'd just made things better or worse.
