AGAINST THE WORLD FRO HER

Maxwell is woken up by the continuous knocking at his door, what he hates most is being woken up early in the morning, he knew it was one of his guards or his confidant and personal assistant Mike. Whoever it is should have a good reason. He opened the door with an agitated expression , standing at the door was Mark with his had in the mid-air planning to knock again, when he door opened, he knew at once from his boss's expression he should be careful with his words.

He had brought good news, he bowed and greeted, boss we have found Angel, his face softened immediately, that name Angel does miracles when ever it is mentioned to him.

Maxwell was a prince in Greenwood, coming from a noble family, he was respected by many, he was rich too and his character was not to be trifled with, he rarely smiled and whenever he did the whole environment would change . Those close to him were always tense. He had gone out of the country two years ago where he met Angel, she was a student studying sign language in a famous university. Maxwell liked her the moment he saw her, he had tried approaching her several times but she ignored him, it was embarrassing for him a prince to be ignored, after another attempt and Angel didn't pay attention to him. His planned a kidnap, his guys brought her to his hotel room where he was resting. Her beauty has been stuck on his mind all this while he approached and asked her why she was ignoring him, she stood there staring at him. Maxwell went closer and she stepped back shaking her head, when she hit her back on the wall, Maxwell realized that all through she has been shaking her head ,so he asked if she could not speak, tears started rolling down her face. He later understood that she was deaf and dump.

He called Mark in and asked if she protested when they took her away, Mark told him that he thought she was strange since she didn't say a word all that while, Maxwell was confused, this woman he had come to like could not speak nor hear others speaking, this was not what he expected, Mark asked if he was still interested in a dump woman, Mark was not prepared for the heavy slap he received, he knew he had said something wrong he immediately apologized, Maxwell warned him of referring to his loved on as that ever again, he didn't know if he was ready to live with her like that but all he knew was that he needed Angel.

He went and sat back on his bed, thinking about all possibilities. He had asked his men to take her out and order some food for her, it was then he realized that she couldn't hear him speak to her all the while he thought she was ignoring him. He has not been able to love anyone fully, all the women he has been with in the past could not get to his heart and he also knew that most of the were there for his money. He could not go back to sleep so he started smoking, it was his usual habit to smoke when ever he had something disturbing his mind.

He was thinking of how to communicate with Angel and tell her that he was interested in having a relationship with her, at last he settled on writing down whatever was in his mind. He wrote a letter to her and sent it to her via one of his guys, she replied later that she wasn't interested in any relationship. Maxwell was not happy with the response, he went to see her at her residence, it was funny that he carried a book and a pen, that was the way he knew they would talk to each other, he was not used to it but he had to now that he was sure she was the one he needed. Angel was at her house watching a documentary, when Maxwell got in he wondered how she was very much concentrated on the movie yet she couldn't hear anything, but that didn't bother him, he had no idea how she was surviving, and interacting all this while. He waved at her and she waved back with a smile on her face, she looked so calm as she gestured him to take a seat that was opposite her. He sat down and she got up, without asking what he would like, she brought a bottle of chilled water. Maxwell was flattered, that was exactly what he needed at that particular moment. He took the water and since he could not use sign language he wrote down his question, which was, beautiful Angel,why did you reject me?, She looked at the question and took out her pen to write down, it's simply because I don't want to be a burden to anyone and I don't want to be pitied as someone who's not capable of anything, as you can see am living my life very comfortably here and am happy with that .

Maxwell felt a pinch in his heart, in his understanding, it was as if , Angel had concluded that she would live by herself since she thought being loved would be a burden to the other party , he did it like the idea. He wrote down his thoughts and after communicating for a while in that manner, Maxwell was gaining the upper hand. He could feel that she would not be difficult to handle and that she had a soft heart. He stayed for a while. and before he left he saved her contact on his phone, In case he misses her, he would text her , with that he left, he knew he had to put a little more effort and she would give in to her, he was going after what his heart wants , he knew that his friends and family would not approve of their relationship but then until then he would know how to deal with them, what he needed now was to get her heart ,it will give him the courage to go on with his plans, he has never been so dedicated to a woman before, he vowed not to play her otherwise he would make her feel insufficient for him which is not b good especially for her who already thinks she would be a burden to others.

Maxwell was not the romantic type but he would try to be for her so after some days of chatting over the phone, he decided to visit her again, he bought a bunch of flowers and carried them with him to her house.

He knocked and waited for some minutes but no one was opening the door, he then remembered that his woman could not hear the knock so he texted her and after a while she opened the door, he on seeing him standing there grinning with flowers in his hands, the scene was breathtaking, she smiled when he stretched his hands handing her the flowers, she received then and ushered him in the house, he came in and she made him a cup of coffee, she also made herself one and they drank silently, she was feeling overjoyed, she had come across guys who were interested in her but the moment they noticed her indifference they would just disappear into thin air and she would be left feeling bad, this lowered her self esteem, she had thought and decided to stay alone since that was when she will be at peace even though she would feel lonely at times,but then this man was different, instead of going away, he found a way of talking to her and that was enough to flatter her heart.

She looked at him differently and he could feel that the way she looked at him had changed over the days, she was getting charmed by him, he liked the thought of that, he did not leave that day , he stayed in for lunch and later in the evening they went out for shopping, he bought her several things which she was grateful for and thanked him so much , the things were expensive and she kept complaining but he didn't mind her , he just bought whatever she liked , he had not told her who he was and that was why she was afraid of him spending so much, he liked that too , she was worried he would waste money, this was contrary to his past girlfriends who did not mind how much he spent as long as they got what they wanted,.

After shopping they went home and after dropping her he went back to his hotel room, through their Small talks he had realized that she came from the same country as him and that was pretty good, they continued going out for some weeks and they got very close to each other, Maxwell ended up doing something he never thought he would ever do in his entire life and that was learning how to speak in signs. He found someone who would teach him the basics, this was funny to him but he had to take it for the sake of communicating with Angel. He was supposed to stay for a month but he ended up extending his stay for two more months, he didn't feel like going back , being around angle was home for him .His work was waiting for him, his family had started disturbing him that he wasn't supposed to stay that long. At last he had to go back home after the long stay but he was not planning to leave her behind he had to convince her to go back with him.

Angel was in love with Maxwell and she wanted to follow him back, she missed her family back home but then she had six more months before she was done studying. She told that to him but he was hellbent on taking her back with him , it was just six months, she told him, and he agreed only with the promise to visit her after three months and then the next time he came , he would be taking her with him. She agreed to that and saw him off when he left ,she would miss him but they would be chatting and more to that he would visit her after three months that was good enough.

Maxwell went back to Greenwood, at the airport were his men waiting to take him home. When he got home, his mother was the happiest, she hugged him and got him to sit and tell her why he had overstay abroad, Maxwell knew his mother would not let him be if he didn't give her an excuse , but then if it was any other woman he would have lied but because it was Angel , he told her mother that he had found a woman he liked and he wanted to bring her home only that she was not done schooling, his mother was happy for her son , it was good that he found time to spend out of business and looking at his eyes she could see how they soft contrary to the cold and stern Maxwell. She asked if he had her picture, to her surprise the picture was his screensaver, she was a pretty young lady, she was satisfied with what she saw and echoed her son for choosing a beautiful woman.

At work Maxwell would sometimes space out thinking of Angel and smiling alone, Mark who was older than him understood that he was in love, he was happy for their ever prince, noticing that he also had a soft spot was something that would make him happy, he and a few of guards knew about Angel well and the fact that she was abled differently , Maxwell did not have many friends to share his joy with. One evening he met his business associate and only friend Martin , they had a deal to talk about, they went to a luxurious hotel and booked a quite room where they would do their business without disturbance. They were in the middle of the conversation when Martin who was also a no nonsense guy noticed that Maxwell had his full attention on his phone and grinning like an idiot. I thought we came here to avoid disturbances but i can see that your phone is the number one distraction , what's up? Martin asked, Maxwell didn't reply Martin got up and snatched his phone to see what was making the prince behave like a fool, what he saw surprised him, Maxwell was starring at a woman's picture it has never happened before , he was with many women before but he had never taken any of them seriously, so seeing his attention going to this particular woman was new.

As he wondered , Maxwell was staring at his empty hands , his phone was no longer there ,the way he looked at Martin you would think that his eyes can dig holes on his skin, he snatched back his phone , seeing his behavior Martin burst out laughing , he asked , are you being for real, Maxwell, a woman stealing your attention from such an important business deal, where will you get the ,money to spoil her if the deal doesn't go through,? Maxwell did not find that funny, he looked at his friend for a while before telling him that she has stolen his heart too , let alone attention, Martin chocked on his saliva, why am i hearing of this just now? , who is she and how and when did this happen? Maxwell told him about her and since he was a friend he could trust , he told him the part he had not tell his mother about Angel not being able to hear or speak, Martin was shocked , he could not believe what he was hearing , he thought Maxwell had a problem with his brain , are you sure of what you want? , he asked ,Maxwell was very solid with his decision that even after his friend tried talking him out of it, he could not listen , they parted on bad terms since Maxwell could not stand him saying unpleasing things about Angel.

Martin wasn't a nosy person, he also was a very busy man he had no time for unnecessary things but today he was at the airport, with a serious face, he was waiting for Maxwell 's arrival, he wanted to be the first person to see the woman who had bewitched his friend despite the fact that she could not speak, he wondered if it was her actions or appearance that caught his attention but he would know all of that soon, he thought Max wasn't serious about her until he met him taking those classes, he thought he was bewitched, who would think that their mighty prince would go to that extent for love. Max had informed his men to be there on time to take them home and carry her bags as well.

Maxwell was very handsome and one could distinguish him from a distance, Martin saw him when he got off with a woman, they were holding hands affectionately, it was a beautiful scene to watch if the couple was normal, he would have supported them wholeheartedly but the situation is different, he also minded how the citizens would react, to him Max was making a bad decision, he would do his best to talk him out of it, or maybe warn her to stay away from the prince, he has been thinking she was after his money so he had the idea of offering her a huge sum to keep her off, that aside the couple was approaching, they had attracted the attention of many onlookers, some took pictures of them while others complemented that they looked good together, Maxwell was feeling on the sky, he smiled at her and gestured what people were saying she smiled back at him , that moment of exchanging smiles was beautifully captured by someone who later posted the picture on social media with no time the picture got thousands of likes and numerous comments, people recognized the man as the prince and this stirred the online, the picture was re-posted by many and is it became the trending topic and topped on the search list, the fact that he was their prince attracted the attention of many, the picture looked lovely, many said that the prince had good eyes, the woman was very beautiful. When they reached the exit ,they met martin who was waiting there, the moment he saw them at a closer distance, his jaws dropped, the woman's beauty was beyond explanation, no wonder his friend would stick to her, he compost himself quickly when he realized the look Max was giving him , he introduced himself as Maxwell and the prince's friend , Angel shook his had and nodded in acknowledgement, Max told him that this was the woman he had been talking about. In the midst of their conversation, his phone rang , it was his mother, she answered with a smile as if she was at his sight, without answering his greetings, she asked him to bring the lovely girl home , max asked how she knew he was with her yet he hadn't told her when he went out of the country, his mother acted surprised and asked , so you have not seen the trending topic, he said he was bringing her home and ended the call and then got on social media only to see his picture trending, the picture was taken not long ago in this airport, he smiled at the sight of it. He didn't like people talking about him on those platforms, in fact he avoids the media at every opportunity but this time he didn't feel annoyed finding people talking about him, rather he was happy, he could not understand the change in himself but he didn't mind, with that they got into their respective cars and went home the drive from the airport would take almost an hour.
