chapter 1

the ritual

The week was finally here .

the week of the ritual .

No matter how hard I tried to run away from It ,I knew that it was definitely going to come .

I closed my eyes as I tried to process what was going to happen next .

The ritual that I am talking about happens every 30 years and girls with unique abilities are made to participate in it .

These girls are sacrificed to a certain demon that we know nothing about .

the girls that have been taken for the ritual haven't changed to their wolf form yet .

Most girls are ranging from the age of 16 to 18 because that was the age that we were supposed to change .

The elders of our pack had briefed us on this ritual and we had no choice but to participate.

Mom had told me the last time that they had violated the law of the goddess because according to them the moon goddess was the one who made the treaty between them and the monster .

They said each girl that is Chosen had some abilities In them and they are Cursed .

Once the time of the ritual comes the girls line up in front of the alpha house and they would be made to pick some stones ,each stone would be white and black .

the white indicated that you are free and you are not chosen and if you choose the black you should just consider yourself to be so unlucky because you have no choice than to participate in it and the most craziest part of it is that none of the girls would come back alive and the last time only five survived .

my heart bled out to those that lost their lives due to the ritual .

I looked out of the window and I could see the whole Street bursting with excitement. Everyone seemed so excited about this ritual that was about to happen and they went shopping for it just to make sure that it happens .

I could see the beautiful decorations around the pack and I couldn't help but curse the pack elders .

Tonight would be the stone bearing ceremony , tonight we would go and pick some Stones and we would know those that are dying .

I wasn't bothered about what was going to happen because I know that I won't be Chosen .

I had just changed to my wolf form two weeks ago and according to my mom I was suddenly free but even though I still had to participate in the ritual because I was still of age and I still had to participate in it .

I closed my eyes and said a quiet prayer to the moon goddess .

I didn't know why I didn't want to participate In this ritual. Even though I had the assurance that I wouldn't be Chosen for the ritual, something in me still made me feel like I shouldn't participate in it .

my mind had never deceived me and I knew that this might be a bad omen but then even if I didn't participate in it the pack warriors would still come In here and try to force me out .

I wanted to meet my mate before I went for this stone picking ceremony but I just couldn't help it since everything was falling apart for me .

I wanted to meet him and mate with him but then I knew that it was just my mere imagination .

I know that a lot of young guys would want to be my mate but I still didn't give a good thought to it and so I have no choice than to block those thoughts out of my head .

My dad is amongst the elders that conducted the ritual so it was really hard for me to run away from it ,even if I did they would still find me and bring me out and that was one reason why I should just participate .

"Freya ,we have been waiting for you all day , when are you coming? The ritual would be starting in an hour and dad had asked us to be there before it starts"I heard Tessa, my elder sister, say and I stood up immediately .

"I would get out sis "I replied and I heard her footsteps going away from my door and I knew that she was gone .

Tessa was my immediate elder sister ,she's just a year older than me ,I'm 17 and she's 18 and we are both born on the same date making her exactly a year older than me .

I had two older Brothers but didn't live with us anymore. Both of them are twins and they moved away when they found their mate. Only Tessa and I lived with our parents .

I stood up from my bed and quickly went through my closet for any clothes .

I picked up a black t-shirt and faded Jean .

I wore it and when I was done I said a silent prayer to the moon goddess and with that I walked out of the room with a sweet look on face,i.was suddenly excited .

I met Tessa and her friend Kate sitting in the living room and I just couldn't help but scoff .

"What took you so long ,mom had already been waiting "Tessa said.

Mom and dad had left some hours ago and they expected us to be there by now .

."An sorry sis let's go "I told her .

" You don't have to be Scared baby ,none of us would be chosen for this ritual "She told me and I nodded my head .

Tessa,me and her friend walked out of the house with hopes in our hearts to the stone picking ceremony and that is where we would know our fate.

chapter 2

The stone picking ceremony.

We arrived at the pack house some hours ago and we went ahead to meet our senior brothers who were standing with their mates .

" I thought you said that you won't be coming ?" I asked Derek, my elder brother when i got to where he was .

"Well my twin won't let me be and so here I am"He replied and. I turned to see his twin brother who was also my elder brother .

I greeted him with a sweet smile on my face but instead he pulled me into a tight hug .

"don't worry dear ,none of you would be chosen for this barbaric ritual "Damon said and I just couldn't help but smile .

Both Damon and I had almost the same thinking because he hated the rituals with everything that was left in him and in the same way I also hate the ritual with everything that's left in me .

" I hope you girls are ready "Dad said calmly as he walked towards us with mom in his arms .

"You don't have to be scared dad , we aren't going anywhere, '' Tessa said smiling .

I couldn't help the sweet smile that came to my face.

"What about you baby "Mom asked .

"I don't want to participate,'' I replied , not looking.at them .

"You have no choice darling ,you know that you have to participate in it no matter what ,you don't have to be scared about anything ,I have the assurance that none of my girls would be Chosen for the ritual "Dad said smiling and she hugged him tightly .

The whole family talked to their daughters and most of the parents hugged them .

The once Happy night was suddenly becoming cold and sad .

"You girls go "Freya mom told them with a Scared voice and with that they walked to where the rest of the girls had lined up .

There were more than 300 girls in the line but then she and her sister were close to the last .

The Alpha came out with the elders behind him and everywhere suddenly became quiet.

" You all are welcomed to the stone picking ceremony "The alpha said and everyone clapped and once the house was down he continued .

"As you all know the stone picking ceremony had been going on in this pack for ages , and 20 girls would be selected to be sacrificed to save our pack ,I don't want anyone to lose their daughter but this is really beyond me , I hope that if you daughter is chosen you have the heart to bear the loss , I have two daughters and they would be the one to pick first , I wish everyone of you good luck "He said and the place suddenly became dead silent .

The elders walked out of the place and put a big black pot in front of us. We were to just dip our hands into the pot and pick up a stone .

Every stone inside is white but once you are chosen by the moon goddess it would suddenly turn black in your hands before you open them .

She said a silent prayer again to the moon goddess before the rituals started ,I just didn't want to be killed, not even at this young age .

The stone picking ceremony officially started and the alpha daughters were lucky because they both picked up white stones ,how lucky they could be .

She watched as each girl Walked up the pot and picked up a stone nervously and each girl turned out to be white .

After fifty girls had picked theirs ,the next girl picked up a black stone , and her mom instantly started crying .

She didn't know what to feel at that moment, because the girl fainted immediately but she was dragged away .

Her dad wasn't shaken because she was suddenly regarded as a curse .

Each girl Walked to the stone and picked up whatever that they touched .

her heart beat kept increasing as they kept on picking and as the girls reduced only thirteen had picked up the black Stone while seven girls were left.

Tessa squeezed her hands and that brought her back to consciousness .

"You don't have to be scared "She whispered into her ears and she smiled that she wasn't losing it .

She looked at the girls in the line and she discovered that they were left with just two stones

the girl that was In front of her sister went to pick up and unfortunately she picked a black stone .

The whole place was suddenly quiet because just one person was left .

Her sister left her and went to pick up nervously and when she was done it turned out to be a while stone .

I couldn't help the smile that came to her face.

"I told you Anna , Just go on and pick you won't be chosen"She whispered into her ears and I just smiled instead .

She could see her dad urging her forward to go and pick but then I was nervous to go ahead.

"Freya come forward, time is running out of our hands' 'One of the elders said and that was when I came back to consciousness .

I walked up confidently as I said a prayer to the moon goddess .

She didn't know why she was being nervous ,she could see the alpha son looking at her nervously and she wondered why ,even though he was my age mate he had not spoken before .

She dipped my hands into the pot with the last confidence that she had left in her and once she was done she dragged it out and opened her hands instantly .

She didn't know when the tears flowed out of her eyes as I showed Tessa the stone.

She had Chosen a black stone she had been chosen by the moon goddess for the ritual for how unlucky she had become .

chapter 3

We all sat down in total silence that night.

even the beatings of our hearts could be heard.

My eyes were hurting so bad from crying too much and I didn't even know what to do anymore .

I was still finding it hard to believe that my life is just going to end in just a matter of seconds. .

The Alpha just allowed us to come home with our families for just a short time ,the blood moon is tomorrow and they needed to start the ritual now so that they won't be delayed .

I never knew I had special abilities and even till now I still feel empty. I don't have anything of such in me but yet I was still chosen for the ritual.

I cleaned off the tears from my eyes and I raised up my head to see my parents staring at me like this was going to be the last time they were going to see me .

My two elder brothers had that cold look on their faces while Tessa had been crying along with me all this while, in fact her face was just swollen from crying.

" I thought you said that you had turned to your wolf form a month ago ?" my dad asked, looking at me and I nodded my head like a baby .

"I don't see any reasons why you should be chosen for this ritual ,I thought they said that only girls that haven't changed to their wolf could participate in the ritual "My dad said almost at the verge of tears ,even though he was trying his possible best not to cry ,I could tell that he was broken .

A knock on the door brought us out of our thoughts and fresh tears began to fall out of my eyes .

"Mom they are here to take me "I said crying out loud and my mom pulled me into her arms .

I cried out loudly at the thought that this was going to be the last time that I was ever going to see my family .

"My daughter, you don't have to be scared ,I know that you will come back alive "dad said and with that he hugged me more tightly than I had ever imagined.

Each and every of it sibblings hugged me so tight,even .

I wondered what would happen if I didn't come back at that moment ,I would really miss my sister .

My sister and I are really close so it was really hard for them to separate us and now it was happening. I was just heartbroken and I even felt like dying the next moment .

I was about to walk out of the house when she held my hands and put something into them and with that he hugged me more tightly than I had ever imagined ..

we pulled away and she dropped something into my hands.

The guards were already impatient.I turned around and took one last look at my parents and my siblings and also one last look at the house that I had grown up in and I just let out a painful smile.

"Everyone should Remember that I really do love you all "I told them and with that I walked away with the guards as they led me to my fate .

We had arrived at the pack house some hours ago and they made us strip off all of our clothes and they only tied a white cloth around our body and we were kept in a cave like some animals that were going to be killed .

We hadn't seen the alpha since we arrived and it was already Dawn ,I knew because I could see a small break of light from where they kept us ,it was just like they were suffocating us to death.

Every girl that was seated here in the cage had that cold look on their faces and so was I, because we are all going to die .

The girl next to me had been crying since I arrived and I just let her be .

I closed my eyes and let out a sweet breath,no matter what it was I knew that i was going to come back alive and am not letting any fucking demon to take hold of me , that's never going to happen and it's not even when am alive , I really needed to stop that mess ..

my Calm eyes swept through all the girls and I could see that they were all scared and most of them had already resorted to their Faith .

I had never felt anything to be inhuman like this ,we were werewolves like everyone else but here we are being treated like we created ourselves and being treated like some kind of animals .

The elders said that they won't give us any food so that we won't be able to fight the so-called demon according to them .

I smiled at the thought of letting someone have me and I just laughed , that's never going to happen no matter how hard they wished for it or how hard they prayed for it ,it wasn't going to happen .

We had been here for the past 24 hours and I knew that we would be killed in just a matter of seconds because I could feel it in my blood that the blood moon was going to happen now .

we had some certain marks on our forehead like some slaves and I just couldn't imagine what was going to happen,I seriously had no clue not even a bit of what was happening I was totally clueless .

A bang on the door made me realize that the time was now and to my greatest Surprise it was the elders dressed in the same as us , the ritual is starting now .
