AT THE LUIS MANSION:
"Miranda, get the drinks from the fridge," Lady Loretta said. She was the lady of the house, and it was her only son's birthday arrangement.
"Okay, Ma," Miranda answered. As a young lady in her early twenties, Miranda wore a pink dress and black slippers. It was nighttime, and they were preparing a birthday party for Derrick Luis, the only son of the Luis family. Out of seven sisters, Derrick appeared to be the only son of his rich family.
Many guests were present in the Luis family mansion; among them were top admirers, business partners, and their family members and relatives, but the birthday celebrant wasn't at home.
-------
Far away at a luxurious firm, Derrick Luis was still at his office when his mobile rang. "Hello, Mother," he picked up the call, and his mother said to him, "Derrick, you know that today is your birthday. So where are you?"
Looking at his wristwatch, Derrick observed it was already 6 p.m. He replied, "At the office, Mother."
"Come home, Son. It's your birthday, and we did a lot just to have today a special moment to mark your new age at 25."
"Hmm, I am not interested in birthday parties, Mother. Why can't you understand my concepts?" Derrick murmured. His mother was already old, so he couldn't blame her.
"I understand. Please come home quickly before the guests start leaving. If I had known you would stubbornly stay up in the office until this time, I shouldn't have allowed you to go to the office today, knowing today is also your birthday."
"Mom, I cannot set work aside for a party. Who will look after Dad's company?" Derrick muttered again. His mother responded sadly, "You are right, but during your father's time, he didn't skip home for work. He attended parties, or where do you think I met him?"
"Hm." Derrick rolled his eyes at his mother's words. "Fine, Mother. I will be at home now." He said, and the phone call ended.
"Running a multimillion-dollar corporation at this age, my mother still wants me to prioritize parties for work. Tch." Derrick mused. He stood up from his exclusive office chair, where he sat in his office. Shutting down his computer, he grabbed his briefcase and elegantly left his office.
Arriving home in a brand new Prado Jeep, Derrick got out of the vehicle and made his way to his family's mansion. He could hear the sound of music and frowned after seeing many guests' cars parked inside his late father's estate.
Marching forward, Derrick arrived at the mansion's exterior. He rang the doorbell, and the maid pulled the door open for him.
"Welcome, Master Derrick," the maid greeted him.
Derrick ignored responding to the maid's greetings and was ushered in by his mother, who was in the living room with many guests.
"Welcome, son. Happy 25th birthday to you," his mother said.
"Happy birthday, Master Derrick!" All the guests in the living room toasted to the new age of the young master.
"Thank you all," Derrick replied, and wanting to retire to his bedroom to rest, his mother stopped him. "Derrick, it's still your birthday. Come cut your cake and make a wish."
Derrick paused at the staircase and look back at the faces of the guests, his seven elder sisters, who were married with children, his company staff. Derrick wanted to protest again that he was not a kid and didn't want a birthday party. However, he gulped down his protest as silence fell in the exquisite living room.
Approaching his birthday cake that was placed in the center of the living room, Derrick picked up the knife and slice the cake into two, blowing off the candles, and the guests beamed, clapping for him.
"Happy birthday, brother," his sisters cheered him, and he replied, "Thank you all."
"That's not all, Derrick. Make a wish," his mother urged him again.
"Oh, Mother. I am not a kid," Derrick protested, and his mother walked up to meet him as they were standing in the living room.
"No one said you're a kid, but you're still my baby, so make a wish," his mother pleaded with an assuring smile.
Not wanting to make his mother sad, Derrick wished for a long life, a happy family, and a prosperous business.
"Happy birthday to you again, Master Derrick; we wish you all the best in life." The guests were happy, and the toasting of drinks continued as the guests resumed drinking and chatting happily.
------
Derrick excused himself from the living room and went back to his bedroom on the top floor of the mansion. Meanwhile, among the maids, Miranda had a crush on the master of the house. She was not the only one crushing on Master Derrick, but she couldn't get her eyes away from him.
She openly gawked at his handsomeness. "Too handsome for one person," Miranda thought.
She had observed Derrick; he seemed very hardworking. He didn't have time for women and was mostly focusing on his business alone.
Derrick didn't have a girlfriend, and Miranda was eager to get Derrick to notice her. Well, she was a poor girl and came from an orphanage home. After her years of serving the elite as a maid, Miranda wanted a classic life. She didn't want to return to poverty.
In the Luis family mansion, maids were expected to dress casually. As there was no competition since the daughters of the family were married, including the most immediate elder sister to Derrick, Nicole Luis.
"Come on, Alexa, I want to introduce you to my only brother, Master Derrick. I fear he might be gay. Why won't he have a girlfriend at this age? Don't you find it weird?" Nicole spoke to her friends as she brought Alexa along to her brother's birthday party.
Alexa worked as a secretary at Luis Group, a multimillion-dollar firm. And she would admit that she hadn't seen any young lady come to the office to visit Derrick.
"I don't think Master Derrick is a gay. He is just too busy to notice any beautiful woman," Alexa replied. She wore a seductive red dress and black shoes. She arrived at the Luis mansion after Derrick left the company.
Alexa was also interested in Derrick. She wanted him because she was just 22 years old. She knew that having a man like Derrick as her husband in the future meant she wouldn't need to work much or suffer to feed herself, as his family's wealth was enough to cover her lifetime expenditures.
"Alexa, what do you think of Derrick? Do you not have a crush on my brother? If my elder sisters hadn't spoken to me about introducing a woman to Derrick to work as his new secretary after my leave from the company, do you think I only accepted you based on our friendship alone? Come now," Nicole grabbed Alexa's hand and led her to the top floor, where there were no guests.
Alexa felt nervous. For a year, she had been working as Derrick Luis's personal secretary based on Nicole's influence. She hadn't crossed the line or tried to get his attention.
Derrick was an aloof man, and she feared what he would do to her if she dared to cross the limit.
Alexa and Nicole excused themselves from the rest of the guests and went upstairs. However, Miranda heard their conversation as she was serving the guests drinks. Any conversations having to do with Derrick made Miranda alert.
The top floor was off-limits. Derrick hated to be disturbed, and Miranda was well aware of this. But she wanted to know what Alexa and Nicole were going to do on the top floor.
Seeing how beautiful Alexa and Nicole looked in their long dresses that swept the floor, Miranda felt jealous and wished she wasn't a maid. Aside from being a maid, she managed to gain some college education, but she couldn't resign her contract as a maid yet. Not when she admired the most handsome man on the planet.
"Ouch! Watch where you're going," a female guest yelled at Miranda for stepping on her toes and losing her guard, as the tray went off from her hands and stained the guest's white dress.
"Ahh! How dare you lowly maid stain my white dress? Do you know how much this outfit costs?" The female guest was annoyed. She was a young woman of Miranda's agemate, and seeing that the celebrant wasn't interested in his own party, nor did he interacted with the guests. That had fueled the guest's irritation.
"I am sorry," Miranda began to apologize to the guest, but the female guest landed Miranda a hot slap on her left cheek.
"You are not deserving to be a maid here! Get out!" The female guest yelled, her voice turned the living room silent.
Lady Loretta felt shocked, and she chided the guest, "Melody, that's not how to treat your fellow lady. She made a mistake and apologized to you while we were all here. Come, Miranda," Lady Loretta summoned Miranda back.
"Show Melody to a room above. I think Nicole still has some spare clothes left in her room from before she left us and got married last year."
"Okay, ma. Come with me," Miranda said to the angry lady, who now looked happy to be taken upstairs for a change.
While the bodyguards were standing around the mansion and in the living room, the jubilation continued as Miranda went upstairs with Melody.
------
Melody was happy to be away from the living room, and she asked Miranda, "Where's Master Derrick's room?"
Miranda didn't want to be friends with the lady who had dared to molest her. The lady was fair-skinned, and Miranda was also light-skinned even when she wasn't using any toning lotion to brighten her skin.
"Can't you speak?" Melody yelled at Miranda again. However, Miranda wouldn't have all that insult in a whole day from the guest scolding her.
"What do you need Master Derrick's room for? Are you here for the birthday party, or are you here for the house master?" Miranda questioned the perplexed woman.
"What? How dare you speak to me in such insolent manners? Have you lost your mind?" Melody charged at Miranda and wanted to attack Miranda, who didn't even know which of the rooms belonged to Derrick or his sisters.
The mansion was extremely spacious, and the rooms above were too many to know which room was the master's or his sister's room.
However, as Melody wanted to smack Miranda again, Derrick got out of his sitting room with his sister and Alexa as they came to check on him, just after he was through taking off his black suit and left in his white shirt and slacks.
"What's going on here?" Derrick demanded, and Melody quickly withdrew her right hand and offered him a sweet smile.
"Good evening, Master Derrick. Your mother sent this silly maid to show me to one of her daughter's rooms here on the top floor to change my dress after she spilled wine on me. But this maid is rude, and she doesn't want to show me to the room," Melody replied, glaring at Miranda.
"What?! That's a total lie, Master Derrick. She was asking me about your bedroom," Miranda said.
Silence immediately ensued in the hallway. Much to Derrick's shock, Miranda's voice sounded so alluring and soft, and he hadn't heard any woman speak with such a soft tone before.
He eyed the maid mysteriously, knowing he had seen her before.
Derrick shifted his gaze to Melody and replied, "That's not why you should attack my mother's maid. When you're not the owner of this house. I saw you just now wanting to attack her. Leave here now. You are dismissed, and your contract with Luis corporation will be terminated as well. Leave!"
Derrick strode toward the staircase to go downstairs. However, Melody dropped down on her knees and pleaded, "Please, Master Derrick. Forgive me. I didn't mean to attack this maid. She's lying, Master. Please, forgive me. I wasn't asking her about your bedroom."
With leisurely strides, Derrick paid no heed to Melody begging him. He went downstairs to thank the guests who had taken out their time to honor his mother's invitation.
After Derrick, Nicole, and Alexa left the top floor of the exquisite mansion, Miranda rose from the floor and pounced on Melody. She wanted to get revenge on Melody for making her lose her job and also her chances with the master of the house.
"You witch! How dare you ruin my chances with Master Derrick? I am going to kill you today!" Melody yelled. She was not prepared. She didn't know that Miranda knew how to fight. As she rushed to attack Miranda, Miranda dodged the attack and kicked her very hard behind her buttọcks.
Miranda pounced on the spoiled lady and started beating her.
"Somebody help!!" Melody screamed as Miranda smacked her and landed multiple slaps in retaliation for the first slap that she had given her.
Miranda sat on Melody's stomach on the tiled floor and slapped her face very well. She also pulled off Melody's wig off and threw it off.
Due to the music echoing in the first floor living room, the bodyguards had escorted Derrick downstairs to the room. So, no one could hear Melody's cries for help.
After Miranda had dealt with Melody, she rose to her feet and ran away into one of the exquisite rooms on the same floor to have a cool evening bath.
-------
The birthday celebration had long ended, and Derrick thanked the guests who had taken the time to attend his 25th birthday party.
"Baby brother. We have got to start going home now. Enjoy your night. I was thinking, why not ask Alexa out to be your girlfriend? She works beside you in the office, and she spends most of her days with you. Alexa Godwin is from a good family, and she will make a good wife for you," Nicole suggested to Derrick.
However, Derrick frowned a little and replied, "I am not interested in relationships, and Alexa knows this. Except she's the one requesting for you to speak to me about relationships."
"Not at all, Master Derrick," Alexa quickly replied. She didn't want to lose her job yet. Especially when she saw Derrick's face twisted in irritation.
"That's fine, sister. Let's call it a night. I have to go inside now and rest, then I will give your proposal some thought. Alexa Godwin is a wonderful woman, and I wouldn't mind asking her out the proper way," Derrick said as he put his hands into his trouser pocket and offered his elder sister a warm smile.
He didn't want her or the rest of his six elder sisters to worry about him.
"That's fine, baby brother. Good night and goodbye," Nicole waved to Derrick as she got into her sleek sport car. She drove home to meet her husband, having a newborn son at home. Meanwhile, Alexa nervously smiled and walked up to her sleek black sport car.
She pulled the black car door open and got inside, feeling Master Derrick's gaze on her. She then drove out of the opulent residence.
Lady Loretta was dismissing the maids to clear the used plates and empty bottles, and to also tidy up the living room after all the guests had left her mansion. However, she noticed the young woman wincing in pain and alighting the staircase with so much difficulty.
"Melody," Lady Loretta gasped, surprised to see how Melody looked disheveled, like she was beaten.
"What happened to you?" Lady Loretta inquired in shock, while the maids in the living room also paused to look at Melody. .
"My goodness!" They gasped at the sight of seeing the previously arrogant lady now look.
"Madam, it was one of the maids you assigned to show me to the top floor rooms. She dealt with me, Ma," Melody managed to speak, her cheeks were visibly swollen.
"You mean Miranda did this to you? I don't believe it. Miranda is innocent and cannot hurt a fly. Ever since Miranda has been working here with us, she hasn't gotten into a fight with any of the maids-that I am aware of. Are you sure you're referring to Miranda or another maid who did this to you?" Lady Loretta inquired.
While the older woman was busy questioning Melody after the guests had left the mansion, Derrick walked back into the living room and looked stunned upon seeing there was still a guest present.
"She did this, ma'am. I cannot lie to you. Miranda lied about me to Master Derrick, and after he left us, she pounced upon me and dealt with me to this extent. She is evil, ma'am," Melody started sobbing upon seeing Derrick looking at her.
"What's happening here, Mom?" As Derrick asked the question, he strolled up to meet his mother.
"Mom, you know it's already late. You should get some rest," Derrick said, not casting a glance at Melody, who had expected him to summon the maid.
After Melody had lost her job with the Luis' Corporation, she expected Miranda to also lose her job as a maid in the exquisite villa.
Melody knew she didn't stand a chance of getting closer to Derrick again. He was busy in the company and attending business-class meetings. Similarly, she didn't have an excuse to use to see him either. Alexa was there as his personal secretary, and many other top female staff members longed to be with Derrick.
"Mom," Derrick said, looking at his aged mother's face. He glanced at her gray hair and frowned.
However, Lady Loretta said, "Derrick, I will return to my room. But where is Miranda if Melody accuses Miranda of beating her up?"
"Do not worry yourself, Mother. I will have the guards investigate what happened. Melody, you may leave now," Derrick dismissed. He did not care to summon Miranda out.
He walked with his mother along the stairs and assisted her in returning to her room on the top floor.
However, It took the Lady Loretta some time to climb the flight of stairs. Derrick then considered relocating his mother's room to a room on the ground floor.
Arriving at Lady Loretta Luis's room door, Derrick paused and gently opened the door. The maid knows it is best to avoid him, especially when he is with his mother.
"Mom, you should get enough rest. I don't want anything to go wrong with you," Derrick said to his mother in a calm tone after accompanying her to climb on the bed.
Lady Loretta and Derrick were all dark in complexion. She smiled at her son's care and replied, "I am fine, Derrick, but you know what will make me happy and rest well-is if you get married. Your father worked so hard to acquire all this wealth for you. I am already over 70 years old, and you don't expect me to remain youthful. You should consider marrying a wife. It's not until you get to thirty that you should do so, my son."
Derrick scowled, holding his mother's warm left hand as she lay on the bed. He heard her commented, "My wish for you is that you should find a good woman who will love you very much, pamper you like her baby, and take good care of you when I am away, and watch you both from heaven."
"Mom..." Derrick interrupted his mother's words with a deep scowl. "You ain't leaving me anytime soon." Tears gathered in the corners of Derrick's eyes; his mother mostly spoke to him about leaving, and he wished he could exchange their wealth for a longer lifetime with her, so she wouldn't leave him.
"It's life, Derrick. We have to go for the world to become balanced and to allow our generations to continue from where we stopped. But I am not leaving you anytime soon. I still want to see you settle down first, and to see the next heir of Luis firm."
"That's fine, Mom. I guess I should leave you to rest now. Have a sound sleep." Derrick leaned over and kissed his mother's forehead goodbye. She smiled and watched him exit her room.
-------
Meanwhile, in the master's bedroom of the exquisite mansion, Miranda soaked herself in a warm bath inside one of the lush rooms.
"Oh my goodness! This feels so good," she said, not caring for the consequences of her actions.
Miranda had hurried into this room, and it was totally different from the other rooms that she was assigned to take care of downstairs.
"Mm," she mumbled, enjoying herself in a cold night bath.
After dealing with the silly lady who dared to slap her, Miranda thought to show the lady what it feels like to be dejected.
She was not a lady to take sh*t from others, but after coming from a lower-class family and also becoming an orphan at a younger age, Miranda knew the world had no respect for the poor. So, she wanted to become rich, even if it meant climbing on others to attain that. She admired the good life, wanted a good job, and wanted to own a big supermarket in her name.
Thinking about her life struggles, Miranda didn't care how much time she had spent soaking herself in this exquisite, large bathtub. The bubbling waters filled with scented soap soothed her body, and accompanied by the chilly weather of the night, Miranda didn't feel like coming out of the bath.
She wanted to sleep there and forget her worries. She had even let her blonde hair fall behind her back. She was extremely beautiful, but she remembered the slap that Melody had given her.
Miranda felt like strangling Melody's neck, but she knew she would be jailed and no one would come for her rescue.
"Mmmmm." Miranda enjoyed herself inside the warm bathtub until she heard the sound of the room door shut.
"Who's there?" Miranda asked, thinking she was in her maid room on the lower floor of the mansion; however, reality dawned on her that she was in one of the children's rooms.
"I hope this isn't Master Derrick's room," Miranda lowly muttered until she heard the bathroom door slide open.
