Chapter 1 Betrayed and Sold

The room was suffocating. The thick scent of damp wood and burning tallow filled my nose, mingling with something more bitter-the undeniable stench of betrayal. The candlelight flickered wildly against the rough stone walls, casting jagged shadows that seemed to mock my despair.

My heart pounded so violently it hurt. The air had turned cold, yet my skin burned with the weight of my mother's words.

Words I never thought I'd hear.

"I'm sorry, my dear... I'm so sorry."

Her voice was a broken whisper, a plea for forgiveness I could never grant. Tears streaked down her face, glistening in the dim light, but I refused to let them move me.

She was crying? She was the one shaking, trembling, looking at me like she was the victim?

I stared at her-at the woman who had held me in her arms, who had whispered lullabies to chase away my nightmares, who had sworn to protect me. Lies. All of it.

My limbs felt like lead as I took a staggering step back, the weight of her words crashing down on me.

Sold.

The word echoed in my skull, sharp and unrelenting. I had been sold. Like cattle. Like property.

Not to a family in need of a servant.

Not to a merchant seeking an apprentice.

No.

They had sold me as a sex slave.

My stomach twisted violently. My vision blurred with panic.

"This can't be real," I choked out, shaking my head in a futile attempt to deny the horror unraveling before me. "No, no, no. Please... tell me this is a mistake."

But my mother only sobbed harder, her hands clutching at her chest as if she could hold in the pieces of her shattered soul.

As if she were the one being ripped apart.

"You don't understand," she whispered, voice hoarse. "We had no choice-"

"No choice?" My voice cracked, my disbelief laced with rage. "You had a choice! You could have protected me, you could have-"

A cruel laugh cut through my words, sending ice down my spine.

I had forgotten about them. The men.

They stood in the doorway, blocking any possible escape. Their eyes gleamed with something dark-hunger. Amusement. Possession.

One of them, a man with a scar running down his cheek, stepped forward, his smirk revealing yellowed teeth. "Now, now," he purred. "No need for all that screeching, girl. It's already done."

I took another step back, but the wall met me-cold, unyielding, trapping me as surely as the iron bars of a cage.

My pulse thundered. I had to run. I had to fight.

But where? How?

One of the men chuckled darkly. "She's prettier than I expected," he mused, tilting his head. "No wonder the Alpha King paid so much for her. Shame he won't get to enjoy her untouched."

A fresh wave of terror crashed over me.

No. No.

"You-" My breath hitched. "You're not supposed to touch me! I'm meant for the Alpha King!"

I was grasping at straws, desperate, pleading. The only shred of safety I had left was that I had been bought-that I belonged to someone powerful enough that these monsters wouldn't dare break me before I was delivered.

But their smirks only widened.

"The Alpha King has plenty of slaves," Scarface sneered. "What's the harm in us having a little fun first?"

Laughter erupted around me-low, guttural, wicked.

No, no, no!

My entire body went rigid as two of them lunged at me, their hands grabbing my arms in an iron grip. Rough. Bruising. Claiming.

I thrashed, kicked, screamed-but they were stronger. Too strong.

"Stop!" My voice cracked, raw with desperation. "Please, don't do this! I-I'm saving myself for my mate!"

Their laughter was sharp, cutting, merciless.

One of them gripped my jaw, forcing my gaze up to his as he sneered. "You think that matters?" he mocked. "You think some fated mate will come running in to save you?"

Tears burned down my cheeks, but I refused to let them see me crumble. "I-I hate you! I hate all of this!"

But my hate meant nothing.

My words meant nothing.

Because I was nothing.

A mere commodity. A prize to be passed from one set of hands to another.

Through my blurred vision, I saw my mother turn away, her shoulders shaking. She couldn't even bear to look at me.

Coward.

She had sold me. My father had sold me. They had abandoned me to this.

My future-my dreams of love, of freedom, of finding a mate-had all been ripped away.

This was my fate now.

I was sold.

And the Alpha King was waiting.

Chapter 2 The Alpha King

The iron bars of the carriage rattled as the horses trampled through the muddy roads, the scent of damp earth and pine filling the crisp night air. My wrists were raw from the shackles biting into my skin, my dress torn and smeared with filth. Every jolt of the carriage sent sharp pains through my bruised body, but I refused to cry.

I had spent the last few hours in silent agony, my throat too hoarse from screaming, my mind too numb to process the nightmare I was living. The men who had taken me had finally left me alone, content with the knowledge that I had nowhere to run.

The only thing keeping me from complete despair was the unknown fate that awaited me. The Alpha King.

I had heard whispers about him my whole life.

A beast cloaked in human flesh.

A ruler feared by all who spoke his name.

A man who had never been denied anything he desired.

And now... he desired me.

The thought made my stomach churn.

The carriage lurched to a stop, and I flinched as the driver barked out orders. Chains clanked as the guards unlocked the doors, and a pair of rough hands seized my arm, dragging me forward.

"Move."

I bit my tongue to hold back a whimper.

As I stumbled out, my breath hitched at the sight before me.

The Blackthorn Castle.

It loomed over me like a monster itself, dark and ancient, its stone walls stretching into the night sky. Torches flickered in iron sconces, casting eerie shadows across the grand entrance. The heavy wooden doors stood open, revealing a long hallway beyond-one lined with guards who stood motionless, their faces unreadable.

My heart pounded violently.

I was being delivered straight into the den of a predator.

With a firm yank, the guards forced me forward, my bare feet scraping against the cold stone floor as I was led through the entrance and down the endless halls. Every step echoed, reminding me of how alone I was.

Finally, we stopped before a massive set of double doors.

One of the guards pushed them open.

And there he was.

The Alpha King.

He sat on a throne carved from blackened wood, his posture relaxed yet commanding. A fire crackled behind him, casting golden hues across his chiseled features. He was larger than I had expected, his broad shoulders and powerful frame exuding dominance.

But it was his eyes that sent a shiver through me.

Dark. Cold. Unforgiving.

They locked onto mine, stripping me bare with a single glance.

I swallowed hard, forcing myself to stay still as the guards shoved me to my knees.

"My King," one of the men spoke, bowing deeply. "The girl has been delivered, as requested."

Silence stretched between us.

The Alpha King tilted his head slightly, his sharp jawline catching the light. His fingers tapped against the arm of his throne in an agonizing rhythm before he finally spoke.

"Leave us."

The guards hesitated for only a second before obeying, their boots clicking against the stone as they exited.

The doors shut behind them with a deafening boom.

And then, there was only him.

And me.

His gaze remained unreadable as he rose from his throne, each step he took exuding an effortless grace that spoke of both power and restraint.

I tried to suppress the tremor in my hands as he came to a stop before me. He was even more imposing up close, his presence suffocating.

"You are the girl they sold to me," he mused, his voice deep, smooth, yet laced with an edge of something dangerous.

I gritted my teeth. "I have a name."

A flicker of amusement ghosted across his face.

"Is that so?" His tone was unreadable.

He crouched down, bringing his face level with mine. My breath hitched as he reached out, the back of his fingers trailing against my cheek-soft, yet possessive.

I flinched. He noticed.

His lips curled into something that wasn't quite a smile.

"You fear me."

It wasn't a question.

I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms as I forced myself to meet his gaze. "I hate you."

His smirk deepened.

"Good," he murmured. "Hate will keep you strong."

His fingers tilted my chin up, forcing me to hold his gaze.

"But make no mistake," he continued, his voice dropping lower, the promise of something unchangeable lurking beneath it. "You are mine now."

A chill swept through my veins, cold and paralyzing.

I had been sold.

I had been delivered.

And now, I belonged to the Alpha King.

Chapter 3 A Dangerous Game

The silence between us was suffocating, the air thick with an electric charge that crackled between my body and his. His eyes, dark and unyielding, bore into me with an intensity that made my breath hitch.

He hadn't moved. He was still crouched before me, his presence towering, overwhelming. The proximity of his body was almost too much to bear, each breath he took matching the rhythm of my own shallow inhales. His gaze never wavered.

"You are mine now."

His voice, deep and commanding, wrapped around me like a heavy blanket.

I could feel it-the truth of his words. And yet, I refused to let it settle in.

I lifted my chin, every ounce of defiance that remained in me focused on maintaining control. "I will never be yours."

A slow, predatory smile tugged at his lips. "We'll see about that."

He leaned in, and my breath faltered as he brushed a stray strand of hair from my face. His touch was deliberate, tracing the line of my jaw with a feather-light touch. It should've felt comforting, gentle even, but it had the opposite effect. I could feel the heat of his hand lingering on my skin like fire, igniting something deep inside me that I wasn't ready to acknowledge.

"You don't even know what you want yet," he murmured, his voice low and intoxicating.

I forced my gaze to his, not allowing my body to betray me. "I know I don't want you."

His fingers curled around my chin, his grip firm but not painful. He tilted my head slightly, forcing me to meet his gaze. His eyes burned with something dark, something possessive.

"You think you don't," he said, his voice practically a whisper now, "but your body knows, doesn't it?"

My heart raced, pounding in my chest like a war drum. I could feel the heat of his body so close to mine, could hear the soft hiss of his breath as he leaned in just inches away from my lips. I had to stop myself from closing the gap, from letting him see just how badly I wanted to lose control.

I wanted to push him away. I wanted to scream at him to leave me alone.

But something stopped me.

His fingers slid down the side of my neck, grazing the soft skin beneath my ear. A tremor ran through me at the touch, and I hated how much I responded to him.

"Tell me, little one," he murmured, his breath ghosting over my lips, "is this what you want?"

I opened my mouth to speak, to deny him again, but no words came. His presence was overwhelming, suffocating, and I couldn't find the strength to resist him.

He chuckled softly, a sound so dark, so knowing. "You won't say it now, but you'll understand soon enough. The way I make you feel. The way your body will ache for me."

A shiver ran through me at his words, and I hated the way my body reacted, the way my skin hummed beneath his touch.

The Alpha King was playing with me-taunting me.

I gritted my teeth, my hands clenched into fists at my sides. "I don't want you," I repeated, though my voice wavered with the barest hint of uncertainty.

His lips quirked up again. "Liar."

He moved in even closer, his chest brushing against mine, and I could feel the heat radiating from his body. His hand slipped to my waist, his fingers digging into my side in a way that made me gasp, the sensation both painful and electric.

"Your body says otherwise," he said softly, his lips almost brushing my ear as he spoke.

I could feel the undeniable tension coiling between us, thick and heavy like a rope that was slowly tightening, ready to snap. It was as if he could sense every flicker of hesitation, every flutter in my chest, and he was using it-dancing with it.

"Stop," I whispered, though it came out more like a plea than a command.

But the Alpha King didn't stop. He leaned in, his lips so close to mine now that I could feel the heat radiating from him. His breath was warm and intoxicating.

"You're mine now," he repeated, his voice almost too soft, too dangerous.

I knew the words weren't just a declaration. They were a promise.

A promise that he was going to break me.

He paused, just for a moment, and I realized he was waiting for me to say something, to beg, to give him some sign of submission. But I refused to.

With a final, almost imperceptible smirk, he pulled back.

I exhaled sharply, relieved that the tension-that unbearable pull-had finally been broken. But as he turned away, I felt the weight of his presence linger, heavy in the room.

"I'll enjoy taming you," he murmured over his shoulder. "You won't be able to fight it forever."

The words hung in the air as he walked toward his throne, leaving me trembling in his wake.

I hated him.

But even now, after everything, a part of me wondered if he was right.

Would I fight it forever?

Or would I succumb to the pull of the Alpha King's dark, dangerous allure?
