Sam never took her seriously, and Wendy was stuck in an infinite loop of unrequited love. Where would her romance take her? How would their story end?

Chapter 1 Meet Again

"Dr. Sam, have you really forgotten me?" It was the 281st time that Wendy Li had asked Sam Lu this question ever since she became an intern at the First Hospital.

Sam Lu knitted his eyebrows together.

"Miss Wendy, I really couldn't remember you."

"How could you?" Wendy Li scowled, crossing her arms against her chest. "Why are you so forgetful?"

Their first encounter was not as romantic as the ones in the movies. It wasn't an unexpected turn of events or a casual glimpse in a coffee shop. No. They actually met in a hospital...

Three years ago...

"Wendy, wait for me, okay? I'll get out of work soon!" After graduation, Wendy Li traveled to City A to visit her cousin, Sherry Qiu, who worked as a nurse in the First Hospital.

"Sure."

Wendy Li wandered around the nursing station. The pungent smell of disinfectant slipped into her nostrils, making her scrunch up her nose in disgust. Without having anything else to do, she decided to take a nap on the table.

"Wendy, are you tired? Why are you sleeping?" Sherry Qiu gently shook her awake.

"What?" Wendy Li smiled, embarrassed. Although Sherry Qiu was a little worried about her cousin, she was too busy to take care of her.

Wendy Li had nothing to do but glance around. She then found a nurse uniform next to her and wore it.

"Well, it's a bit small for me, and the buttons don't close." Wendy Li took a deep breath, tightening her stomach. However, it was to no avail. Suddenly, a voice came behind her. She gaped with someone rushing over to her.

"Are you the nurse on duty today? Come here!"

She was taken to the ICU before she could react. Her eyes widened, taking in the sight that greeted her. Doctors and nurses were surrounding a lying patient as they readied for another operation.

The sound of clinking and drilling filled her ears. She flinched.

"What are you doing? Test the patient's vital signs!"

Wendy's eyes widened as she stared at the patient. It was her first time seeing an unconscious body. Swallowing hard, she clutched her stomach.

"I–" she stuttered out.

"What? Hurry up!" the man snapped as he was performing a CPR.

"I'm not exactly a nurse." The ward was dead silent as they all shared confused glances. After all, she was wearing their uniform.

After a few seconds, he shoved her out. "Get out!"

As Wendy was being thrown out of the ICU, she could feel her heart doing flips.

Later, when everything had finally calmed down, Sherry Qiu told her that the man's name was Sam Lu. It was his last year of internship before he stepped in as an actual surgeon in the team.

Wendy wasn't one to believe in love at first sight before, but after meeting him, she realized that she loved him. Her goal was to be with him one day, and that stubbornness sent her through the bloody trek to nursing school.

However, it seemed that the faiths weren't in her favor. Sam Lu had not taken her seriously after all.

"Dr. Sam, this is the routine examination report of the patient in the first bed," Wendy reported seriously, wanting to look smart in front of him.

Sam Lu didn't even bother to look at her or even stretch his hand to grab the document.

"Put it on the table."

Wendy gaped at him, widening her eyes in disbelief. She quickly placed the document on the table, but she still didn't move. As if finally noticing her presence, he lifted his head.

"Anything else?"

"Dr. Sam, are you free tonight?" she said expectantly.

Sam took out his small notebook and shrugged.

"I'll be busy." 'Why is he so cold?' Wendy plastered another flattering smile on her face.

"Tomorrow night then?"

"I'll be having an operation." Sam picked up his case records and walked out of the office. Wendy ran to catch up with him.

"The day after tomorrow then? Or two days after tomorrow? Or how about the day after that? I mean, there should be one day when you aren't that busy, right?"

"Miss Wendy! Please respect my privacy." Sam finally turned his head to look at her. Wendy paused for a bit. When Sam was about to lift his foot, she quickly grabbed his coat.

"How about tomorrow noon?"

she asked cheekily. Sam ignored her and continued on his daily rounds.

"Damn it!" Wendy cursed to herself, shaking her head. It seemed that she had lost again.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Lily was also one of the interns in the First Hospital. She was returning to the nursing station when she saw Wendy leaning against the wall.

Knowing her very well, Lily shook her head.

"I'm guessing you've seen Dr. Sam?"

"Don't even mention that asshole to me. He thinks that he owns the world with how cold he's being!" Wendy scowled, grabbing a charcoal pen from her pockets and proceeded to stab the head onto the notebook.

"You really love him, don't you?" Lily sighed, shaking her head.

"He's an idiot! I mean, hello? It's not like I'm ugly. Can't he see who's standing right in front of him?" Wendy scowled.

"Have you seen the other girls running after him? They're gorgeous. You're probably nothing compared to them." Lily snorted jokingly.

"Bitch," Wendy snapped, pouting. "You owe me for that." "Fine, fine.

How about some hot pot?"

"You called it," Wendy warned, smiling.

"Wendy! Lily!" An elderly nurse quickly walked over towards them, shaking her head.

"I've already told you hundreds of times that it's important to observe a patient's reactions after an operation, and look at what you're doing!"

Alas! She couldn't go a day without someone trying to scold her.

Wendy sighed inwardly. Once the elder nurse walked away, Lily placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Ignore them. They're just jealous of your cousin. It will all be over after the internship." Lily was well aware of their attitude. Wendy's cousin, Sherry, had been promoted to the head nurse. Given that she was promoted at such a young age, there were many nurses who thought that she didn't deserve it. Since she was assigned to study, other nurses seized the opportunity to bully Wendy whenever they felt like it.

Wendy was the type of woman who never backed down without a fight, but with a fear that her cousin might get involved, she swallowed her anger and moved on.

"Lucy Li, it's time to set up a drip." Since they were interns, they only did the basic practices like setting up a drip, or pulling out a needle, and so on. However, most of the time, they were usually other nurses' lapdogs.

"Nurse, what's the name of my drip? Why does my arm ache?" The patient was named Lucy Li. She was a middle-aged woman.

Wendy smiled and explained, "Auntie, you have hypoglycemia. I've followed the doctor's instructions to give you an infusion of fructose. This medicine would help stimulate your muscles, so your arm would be feeling a little sore for a while. I can help slow down the drip, if it will make you feel better."

Wendy turned down the gear before looking expectantly at the patient.

"How do you feel?"

"Yes. I feel much better. Thank you. Hi, Dr. Sam!" Lucy looked at the doorway where Sam had just entered in, holding a pile of documents.

Wendy's lips inched up, but he went straight to the bed. He didn't even bother to look at her.

"Auntie, how are you feeling today?" he asked kindly.

"Much better. You can thank this nurse for taking great care of me." Lucy Li looked at Wendy, chuckling.

Wendy was about to reply when he cut her off.

"Of course. It's her duty to take great care of you." His voice was still as cold as ice.

'Ass.' Wendy rolled her eyes secretly.

"And why are you still here?" Sam straightened his back to stare at her. He scowled.

"I just saw your instructor looking for you. Be careful. Those women are probably going through their menopause," he joked, trying to relieve the tension.

Menopause. Wendy couldn't help but laugh. Her instructor was actually still in her early thirties, but she was always prone to tantrums. She shook her head. It turned out the cold fool wasn't that much of an idiot after all.

"Hey, found money or something? Why are you so happy?" Lily asked suspiciously after seeing the smirk that threaded across Wendy's lips.

"It's better than money," she sang.

"Look, there's a dormitory gathering tonight. Phoebe practically begged us to come, so we need to go." Lily displayed the amount of times Phoebe He had called her in her phone.

"So are you going?"

Wendy shrugged. "Of course."

"Really?" Lily asked.

"Dr. Sam didn't agree to be your date?" she teased. Wendy retracted, frowning.

"Shut up! I'm still planning to ask him again." Wendy puffed out her chest. However, after a thousand times of her asking him out, it was as if she had just tied herself to failure. She sighed. When would he ever accept her?

"Well, don't stop now! You got this in the bag." Lily patted her friend on the shoulder.

"Ugh, why are you getting off work already?" Wendy pouted.

"That's because I'm not on night shift today, silly. I'm on day duty," Lily said proudly.

Wendy finally stood up, having enough of their conversation. "I'm going to see Sam."

Lily stumbled up, eyes widening. "Didn't he just reject you? Don't you think you should rest for a while? Or, I don't know, wait for him to chase you?" she suggested.

Wendy snorted, waving her arms exasperatedly. "Please, I'm shameless as hell."

Lily shook her head and ignored her. Besides, she was already used to Wendy's persistence.

Outside the meeting room, Sam was discussing something with the doctors. Wendy stood outside a window, trying to peak at his face. When he turned around, he could see Wendy's burning gaze on him. He glanced away, as if he had just seen a stranger. Wendy sighed, taking a step back.

She then passed by a ward when she heard an agitated cry.

"Darling, wake up!"

Realizing that there might be something wrong with a patient, she rushed inside.

She placed her right index finger and middle finger on the patient's carotid artery. His pulse was weak. Without another thought, she placed her head on the patient's chest and abdomen. He wasn't breathing.

Wendy prepared herself to perform CPR.

"Don't worry, Auntie. Did he eat anything after the operation?"

The old woman shakily pointed at the leftovers beside them.

"I–I made some Ginseng soup for him. I didn't expect this!"

Wendy quickly alerted the doctors.

Fortunately, the ward wasn't far from the meeting room. Soon, Sam and his team of doctors came rushing in.

It was a good thing Wendy acted fast. His breathing had already returned to normal, and the doctor in charge of him proceeded to do his regular checks. When everything was checked in, the doctor turned to the old woman. "Miss, the operation has just finished. It would be best if you don't give him any food for a while," he advised. "Just let him rest."

Chapter 2 Reunion In The Dormitory

"Come on! Cheers!" the eight girls said in unison as they clinked their glasses together. This was their first gathering since their internship had started.

After dinner, someone suggested that they go to a karaoke bar. They immediately rushed to the Judy Hotel and booked the biggest private room that they had.

Wendy was swaying around as she screamed hysterically into the microphone. Christina Ouyang, the oldest one in the dormitory, grabbed it from her hand as she carried a glass of beer in her other hand.

"Come on, give a shot!" She handed Wendy the glass of beer aggressively.

"I have work tomorrow," Wendy hesitated.

"Please, it's fruit beer, and the alcohol content isn't that high. Are you really that much of a lightweight?" She laughed. "Give it a try."

"Fine." Wendy took a deep breath. Knowing that she had no other choice, she lifted the glass and drank a mouthful.

Looking at her bloodshot eyes, Christina Ouyang winked at the others.

"Still chasing after that doctor you've fallen in love with?"

Wendy glanced at her other friends who were already intoxicated by the wine. They leaned in closely, anticipating her answer.

"Yes." She knew that they would ask her that.

"Lily said he isn't giving you anything."

"Yeah? Well, he's as cold as ice." Wendy slumped in her seat, rolling her eyes.

"If you ask me, you should give it up." Phoebe He patted her on the shoulder.

"Me? Give up? It's not as easy as you think."

The others shrugged and shared a look.

Wendy rolled her eyes. "Enough about me. How about you, Christina? What's going on with you and your boyfriend?"

Christina Ouyang choked. "Yes! You're the first one who got a boyfriend.

How have the two of you been?" Rachel inquired. She was another one of her dorm mates.

"Oh, you know... It's going okay." Christina waved her hand, trying to change the topic of the conversation. However, it seemed it was hard for her to do so. The girls were worried about them since their relationship still had no further development.

"Tell me!" Wendy urged, giggling.

Christina rolled her eyes, knowing she had no way out. A smile tugged her lips. "What do you want to know?"

"Are you still a virgin?"

Everyone quieted down as they stared at Wendy. She burst out laughing, holding onto her stomach.

"Calm down! It was just a joke." They all raised their fists in unison before coming forward to tickle her as a punishment. Fortunately, she was able to escape them. She choked, laughing.

"Fine, fine. Let's change the topic. What about the weird things we've encountered in our internship?" Ellen suggested.

"Change the topic? Hm, Ellen, are you hiding something?" As soon as someone said her words, everyone turned towards Ellen. Their eyes were wide in rapt attention.

"She must be afraid that we'll interrogate her," Ray teased. She was the youngest of the group.

"Hiding something, Ellen?"

"All right. I... "

However, before she could talk about it more, Wendy suddenly doubled over. Everyone backed away almost immediately. She started throwing out immediately. Suddenly, she had successfully diverted the attention from Ellen as they all rushed in to help her.

"Help her to the bathroom!" The others hurriedly pulled her out of the dirty sofa. The wine bottles that she'd drank fell onto the floor, creating a loud clanging noise.

"If I had known that she'd drink this much, I wouldn't have let her drink." Christina sighed as she dragged Wendy out of the private room. Lily had no choice but clean the scene before her.

Wendy retched and vomited into the toilet as the girls waited outside. Soon enough, the flushing sound echoed across the bathroom.

When she finally came to her senses, she slowly staggered out of the bathroom. Her face was pale and her eyes were already rimmed red.

"I'm curious as to the man you're chasing." Ellen leaned against the wall, raising her eyebrows curiously.

"What are you talking about?" Wendy turned on the tap and splashed some water on her face. Soon, color returned to her cheeks. She straightened her back.

"I mean, you know that he's almost impossible to chase, so why not let it go? Why are you letting yourself go through this?" Ellen urged.

"Shouldn't you know the answer to that?" Ellen was actually one year older than Wendy. While Wendy had just fallen in love once, Ellen had done so on numerous occasions.

"I..."

"What are you doing?" The sudden voice interrupted their talk. Wendy froze, recognizing the owner of that voice. Suddenly, her cheeks flushed red. If he saw her like this, what would he even think of her? Her hands trembled. 'Whatever. Either way, he doesn't even care.' Wendy turned around stiffly.

"Dr. Sam." She forced a smile into her face. However, it had only made her look even more repulsive.

Sam glanced at the box beside him. Today was the birthday of his best friend. The box was filled with a bunch of shallow women to dance for them, which made Sam incredibly uncomfortable. He wanted to get some fresh air, but when he saw Wendy, he was about to turn around and leave. However, to his surprise, he heard her speak up.

"What a coincidence!" Wendy clapped her hands, feeling incredibly dizzy again.

"Isn't it?" Sam smiled mockingly, stopping.

"Are you drunk?" There was a trace of disgust in his voice.

"Hi! Who are you?" Seeing that the man completely ignored her and started to berate Wendy, Ellen couldn't help but burn in anger. She clenched her fists.

"I'm not drunk," Wendy snapped.

"From what I remember, aren't you on duty tomorrow? Who gave you the right to drink?"

"Who the hell are you? I'm taking her back with me, and you're in our way. Step aside!" Seeing the two's interaction, Ellen could already guess who he was. She couldn't help but feel sorry for her friend's wishful thinking. Ellen made sure to shove him as they were leaving.

The next morning, phone calls and messages had been bombarding Wendy before she was woken up by them. Last night, Ellen had directly sent her back to her residence. Wendy and Lily had rented a house with a living room and two bedrooms.

"Hello?"

"Ellen said she saw your Mr. Right last night." Wendy rubbed her eyes.

"What was worse, Wendy was fucking embarrassed while he saw her last night." 'Who is speaking? Does my miserable story entertain her that much?'

Wendy was still so sleepy that she couldn't even register what was going on. She blinked as she scanned her screen. It turned that she was on a group chat with her friends.

"Wendy, don't worry. Ellen got him good for that."

What? All of a sudden, she jumped out of her bed.

"What did you do?" Damn it! Why couldn't she remember anything?

A variety of scenes appeared in her mind.

Did Ellen hit Sam? No! That was impossible. Even if Ellen was angry, she wouldn't go through such lengths.... At least, that was what she knew.

"Nothing! Ellen just helped you out – you know, to make it clear with him."

"What the hell did she do to 'make it clear'?"

Suddenly, memories came rushing back.

As Ellen took Wendy's arm and helped her go back, she turned to Sam.

"Dr. Sam, our Wendy is a very simple girl. She'd never been in love. In fact, she had never liked anyone till she met you. As a good friend, I don't want to see her being like this. If you don't have any feelings for her, then tell her. Don't leave her hanging. But if you lost her,

then I guess it would be your greatest loss." Without another word, she walked away. "That's it?" Wendy leaned against her pillows.

"What else do you want?"

Wendy groaned. "Couldn't you have just beat him up directly? Imagine if we meet again in the future. It would be so awkward!"

Ellen snorted.

"You're so shameless."

After hanging up the phone, Wendy lied in bed for a long time before finally getting up.

She was bracing herself for another round of scolding.

"Wendy! Do you think you're more special than the other nurses? Why are you being late again?" It was that blasted nurse again. There were several other nurses who watched the scene unfold right in front of them. Wendy tried her best to hold her yawn, glancing up at the person in front of her. The hangover made her head pound. She cringed.

Sam and several other doctors passed by the nursing station. They could see Wendy's pitiful situation. Although it was just a glance, she still bowed her head in shame. At that point, she knew that he didn't like her.

"Dr. Sam!" Suddenly, the nurse's harsh voice was replaced by a joyful and charming one.

Sam crossed his arms.

"I'll take this intern to check the wards," he stated.

The nurse's jaw dropped. "But–"

"It's the patient's request!"

"Okay! Wendy, go ahead!" Seeing there was no other choice, the nurse decided to compromise.

"Dr. Sam, thank you," Wendy later said once they were out of sight. Was he trying to help her out? Wendy couldn't help but feel warm all over.

"For what? I just told them what the patient wanted." Sam was incredibly tall, and he had long legs. He was able to stride quickly along the corridors. Wendy had difficulty following him, but even then, she couldn't help but feel happy.

"Miss Wendy, what got you so happy?" Wendy smiled as she was changing the patient's drip bag. Her smile had such a calming effect that it actually cheered up the patient next to her.

"It's nothing. Mister, it will take you more than three hours to take this medication, okay? If you feel uncomfortable, you must press the call button immediately, okay?" She smiled brightly.

"Are you done?" Sam closed his medical record, raising his eyebrow.

"Yes! I'm done." She giggled.

Sam shook his head in disgust and motioned her to follow him.

They reached the balcony at the end of the corridor.

"Dr. Sam, do you have something to tell me?" Wendy furrowed her eyebrows. She felt that he had been acting weird all day. In fact, this was probably the most interaction they had in the whole time they had been working together.

"Wendy," he started.

"Yes?"

"I don't like you." She thought he was going to say something else, but it turned out that it was this. She could already feel her heart breaking into two.

"I know!" She forced a smile into her lips, but her eyes showed otherwise.

"Your personality is actually very similar to my ex," he later admitted.

"What?" Wendy's eyes widened.

"She was my childhood sweetheart. Her father killed my father, and in revenge, I killed hers," he admitted. "When I see you, I couldn't help but think of her."

"What? Where is she then?" Wendy pushed.

"She went abroad and got married. We never made contact again. So now you know why I don't like you."

Wendy frowned. "But she was the one who hurt you. Why would you think of me as your ex?" She clutched her head, feeling it buzz at her words. Did she still get the hangover in her system?

"I don't deserve your love. Even if she's married, I'll love her whole heartedly." His words hit Wendy's heart like an axe. She clenched her fists.

"Well, those are two different things!"

Chapter 3 Cousin Sherry

When Wendy had already been an intern for four months, her cousin, Sherry, decided to have a break from her schooling and came back. The nurses in the hospital finally stopped their bullying.

Wendy always had such a great admiration for her cousin. Sherry was not only the head nurse, but she had also married the director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology. Both of them were talented in their respective fields.

"Sherry, welcome back!" Since Sherry went back to the hospital directly, Wendy got up early to greet her there.

"Thank you! You're beginning to look more like a nurse. How have you been?" Sherry smiled.

Wendy's face reddened at the thought of her fellow nurses bullying her, but she later shook her head. As was said before, she didn't want to pull her cousin into this mess.

"Let's have dinner tonight, okay! Your brother-in-law already booked us some seats!" Sherry patted her shoulder.

"Okay." She nodded.

"Go ahead with your work, okay? I have to go see the director."

Without another word, Sherry walked off. There was a certain elegance in her that would make any other resident nurse jealous of her.

"Hey!"

Suddenly, someone slapped Wendy on the back, causing her to cringe in pain. She turned around.

"Finally living your days, eh?" Lily winked. It was obvious that the other nurses were now warding off from Wendy ever since her cousin had returned.

Wendy rolled her eyes in return.

"Since your cousin's here, you can finally relax."

"Go away. I'm filling out the form, plus I'm on duty today." Wendy knew that Lily wouldn't approach her like this if she didn't need anything.

"Are you still my roommate or not?" Lily whined, pouting.

"I'm exhausted every day. Plus, have you seen how long those rounds take? I finally have a break today. Could you let me go, please?"

"Wendy, Lily, what are you talking about?" Sherry was actually standing right behind them, raising her eyebrows in curiosity.

"Sherry!"

"Sis!" The two turned around in shock.

Sherry smiled and turned to Lily. "Lily, come to the Elegant Restaurant with us. My husband already booked us a table."

"Of course. Welcome back, Sherry!" Lily gave a wide grin.

"Thank you..." However, before Sherry finished her words, one of the nurses snorted right behind them.

"It's time for work, yet someone chooses this time to flatter others."

Wendy jumped up and glared at the nurse. She clenched her fists. They could talk all they wanted when it came to her, but when it was aimed at her cousin, she was ready to fight them. However, before she could come any closer, her cousin quickly held her back.

Lily stared at them worriedly.

Wendy tried to struggle under her cousin's grip but it was to no avail. When she finally relaxed, Sherry smiled at her.

"Wendy, we should really start choosing our battles. She's not worth our time, okay?" Sherry was really admirable. Not only was she patient, but she also paid no attention to other people's bullshit.

The nurse's face turned beet red as if she had just eaten a bag of crap.

When the nurse left, the two interns burst out laughing. Sherry shook her head helplessly.

That night, in a private room at the Elegant Restaurant, Sherry and her husband Austin Lin took their seats. Wendy and Lily came in a few minutes late.

"So, Wendy, how's the internship going?" Austin Lin's eyes glittered. "Bored doing the same old thing?"

"You know me so well." Wendy sighed.

Austin Lin chuckled, patting Sherry's head affectionately. "Your cousin used to be just like you when she was an intern."

"Hush. We shouldn't speak of the past. You must be hungry, aren't you? Tell the waiter to serve the dishes." Sherry pouted. This was another side of Sherry that Wendy had yet to see. She looked so sweet and innocent in front of Austin Lin that it couldn't help but surprise Wendy.

"Wait! We're actually waiting for one person," Austin Lin muttered, raising his wrist to look at his expensive Swiss watch. "What's taking Sam so long?"

Wendy blinked, feeling as if she had heard the name wrong. Sam?

"Why don't you try calling him?" Sherry offered.

However, before he could reach for his phone, the door already slammed open.

"Sorry I'm late. I had to finish an unplanned operation. Take this as my apology, Sherry." Wendy froze as the sight of Sam confirmed her suspicions. He calmly glanced at the other people in the room. When his gaze met Wendy, he nodded slightly as if this was the first time that they had seen each other. Without another word, he handed Sherry the bottle of wine he brought.

"Shit! They already know Dr. Sam?" Lily whispered urgently as Sam approached their table.

"I think he was Austin's classmate."

"Why don't you let them do all the work? You know, your connections?" Lily waggled her eyebrows.

"Connections?" Wendy furrowed her eyebrows.

"I mean why don't you let your cousin be the matchmaker?" Wendy frowned. Usually, she was the kind of person who liked to fight using her own wits. She was never the one who would like others to interfere in her own problems.

"Wendy, Lily, what are you talking about?" Hearing Sherry's words, Austin and Sam turned to look at them.

Wendy quickly forced a smile into her lips. "Where did you go during your training?" She decided to change the topic.

"Shanghai, Heilongjiang, uh... Wendy, have you already moved out?"

Wendy choked upon hearing that.

She used to live in Sherry's house when she was still there. But ever since her cousin went off for more training, she moved into Lily's rented house. However, she hadn't told Sherry about it yet. At that time, she only told Austin Lin that she wanted to live with her friend to relieve some old times.

"Honey, let's have dinner first, okay? We can talk about this at home."

Wendy didn't say a thing.

"Wendy, let's eat." Seeing that she was still absent-mindedly biting at her chopsticks, Austin quickly prompted her to act as he poured her a glass of red wine.

"Sure." She couldn't help but glance at Sam. Although his indifference towards her was still hurtful, she still admired how enchanting he looked under the dim light.

Sherry smirked. She knew that Wendy was attracted to Sam. In fact, she already had her plan rolling, but she needed to ask her husband for help.

It was said that absence would make the heart grow fonder. After making love, Sherry leaned in her husband's arms and caressed his chest from time to time.

"Honey, what do you think about Wendy?" she asked lazily, tracing circles around his biceps.

"She's good." His voice was hoarse after the enchanting night that they had.

"Then do you think she and Sam..." Suddenly, at the mention of Sam's name, Austin sat up as if he had been struck by lightning.

"You want to bring them together?" he asked in disbelief.

"What's wrong?" Sherry furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.

In fact, after seeing them together, she thought that they were an excellent match. "Honey...that wouldn't be a good idea." Austin placed his arms around her and leaned in for a kiss, as if he was trying to dispel the idea from her mind.

"They just can't be together."

"And how would you know?" Sherry countered.

"You– you don't know him, Sherry. He's been hurt... It's not easy for other people to understand it."

"So what? How do you know that they won't be able to work out?" Sherry pouted.

Austin shook his head. It was a gut feeling. After knowing Sam for so long, he knew for a fact that he would try his best to stray away from Wendy. "Look, I just do. How about let's do something else, okay?" Without another word, Austin pulled Sherry beneath him and started to make love to her. It was already midnight.

"Dr. Sam, the operation for Patient No. 7 is scheduled at 11 o'clock today. There's another one at 3 in the afternoon."

Wendy didn't know how many times she had eavesdropped on Sam's schedule. He always had a full schedule every day. Even if there were breaks in between, he would usually be called in to do another surgery. As she gazed through the glass window, she could see him rub his forehead tiredly, but he still nodded at his schedule. When he came out with the medical records in his hands, she hurriedly hid behind the door.

She didn't know why he had to work so hard. Was he short of money? That was impossible. Did he just like the fame that came with it? Although he was just around thirty years old, he was already known as an expert in the Cardiology Department. He was the reason why the hospital had an influx of patients. They wouldn't be there if it wasn't for Sam.

Even if there was a heavy rain outside, Wendy quickly rushed out to the cafe.

"A cup of Espresso..." She paused for a moment before shaking her head. "Wait, I mean two cups!"

When you fall in love with someone, you would want to know everything about them. That would include their habits, their work plan, and many more. Many people usually drank coffee to refresh themselves, but she still couldn't understand why Sam would like such a bitter drink like an Espresso.

The city was cold after the raging storm. Wendy slowly snuck into the doctor's office and placed the coffee on Sam's desk. Drenched with rain water, Wendy turned around immediately only to stumble across Sam's chair.

"Shit!" She groaned as Sam's clothes quickly fell onto the floor.

"I'm so clumsy." She picked up the jacket only for his wallet to slip outwards. She groaned, picking it up. However, as she was picking it up, something slipped out of the pockets.

She grabbed it, gazing at the photo curiously. The photo held the face of a beautiful woman. Wendy scrunched her eyebrows in confusion. Was this woman Sam's ex-girlfriend then?

Hearing the footsteps coming from outside, Wendy didn't have the time to calm herself. She quickly placed the photo into the wallet and left in a hurry.

"Hey? Where did you go? The head nurse asked about you, and do you know the scolding I got?" Lily stopped, frowning at the state of her clothes. "What's wrong with you? Did you fall into a puddle or something?" Wendy's lips trembled.

"Look! I bought it for you! " Wendy slammed the coffee on the table, gazing calmly at Lily. "And?"

Lily took the coffee and smelled it suspiciously only to reel back in disgust. Her nose was all scrunched up.

"Okay, you know what? Don't bother." Seeing the look on her friend's face, Wendy quickly changed her mind and grabbed the coffee.

Without another word, she stomped up the top floor. She gazed at the skies above her and opened the lid on her coffee.

She took a big gulp

only to explode in a coughing fit. What the hell? It was so bitter! "Ugh, shit!" She shouldn't have bought a cup of bitter coffee. In fact, she didn't even know why she bought one for herself. She hated coffee!

"You bought coffee only to spit it out? Why waste such a good cup?"

A voice came from behind her.

Wendy turned around and saw a pair of playful eyes. Her cheeks reddened at his words. She was about to leave when he held her back.

"Don't leave just yet." He smirked.
