She blamed her mom and dad for leaving her. ^Don't worry, your daughter will be United to you again," she whispered as if those words would encourage her. Now, she finally understood why dealing with the feeling of betrayal was difficult. If she could, she would have pulled her hair off but couldn't. So instead, she stood there staring out the water. A FEW HOURS AGO. "Jane, what do you think I should get for George?" Jessica asked excitedly. There will be an engagement party three days from now, and she can't wait. " You know our engagement is coming soon", Jessica added. On the other hand, her friends were texting someone, not feeling bothered with what Jessica was saying, she signed at her friend's hopeless situation. " You know, you won't find a man by looking at your phone all the time, there are many hot and single guys here, and you are missing out", she commented. She wasn't bothered, for the past few days, Jane has always been with her phone, she was going to continue shopping when she saw her phone beeping. There was an emergency surgery that needed her help. So before leaving the hospital, she instructed her staff to make sure they only called her for emergencies. "Ohh", she groaned, stamping her feet like a baby throwing a tantrum over a candy. "What?" Jane asked as the noise caught her attention, finally looking at her friend for the first time since they got here. "I'm going to miss tonight's dinner date with George. There is an emergency at work", she explained with great disappointment. She knew George wouldn't like this, he always complained about this, yet he knew she would understand, as she is earning for both of them. Moreover, George didn't work, yet she wouldn't complain cause he would prepare dinner before she returned home, and besides that, he was sweet and supportive. "This is not the first time you stood him up, Jessi, love, don't worry, he would understand, " Jane said, looking back at her phone, smiling, yep, the only thing she knew was her phone. " Ok, I guess I will leave then. Would you please help me call and explain things to him," Jessica instructed as she walked down the hallway leading to the parking lot? Then, she entered her car and drove off. Becca welcomed her at the moment she stepped in." Becca, are you alright" Jessica asked, worrying about her pale face. " Yes, ma", she answered stammering, it was unusual for her to stammer, causing Jessica to get concerned the most. "Sorry, Ma, but it was a false alarm ", Becca blunted out, closing her eyes not to see Jessica's reaction. "It's what? "Jessica asked, as she had just canceled her dinner date with George. Seeing the look on Becca's face made her calm down. Besides, it wasn't her first time getting a false alarm or an unrelated case, but she still comes to make sure nothing goes wrong, and if she looks at the bright side of things, she can finally go back to George. Maybe buy dinner on the way, since it was too late to cook. Becca answered with a nod, "ok, just call me whenever there is a real emergency this time", she said, leaving. She stopped at an eatery and ordered well-packaged food for her. She happily hummed as she drove, singing out loud as the music on the radio got the chorus. It was a love song, one she knew by heart. Getting to George home, she saw he had company with the extra female shoes outside. It must be Jane shoes, as it looks exactly like the pair Jane wore, "oh well, they will both have dinner together", she thought, this wasn't the first time, maybe Jane wanted to stay over, she added. Getting in, a trail of clothes welcomed her, and Jane and George were on the floor. She tried coming up with excuses, but she knew she could not lie to herself anymore. Finally, the trail of clothes ended in George's room. She swallowed nervously as she opened the door. Waving off, the pain hit her as she saw her best friend making out with her fiance. Pain, it's all Jessica Miller could feel as she walked through the rain drenched. Painful memories kept flashing, she let out a loud scream as she fell to the ground, crying the more. Should I end it, she questioned, what there to leave for she questioned the more, as she stood up walking towards the bridge. Mom, Dad you caused this, the day you left me, you caused it, but don't worry, your daughter will be United to you again she tells as if, as if those words would encourage her.

Now, she finally understood why the feeling of being betrayed is the worst to deal with. If she could, she would have pulled her hair off, but she couldn't, rather she stood there staring out the water.

FEW HOURS AGO.

Jane, what do you think I should get for George Jessica asked excitedly, three days from now there will be an engagement party for both of them and I can't wait Jessica added with excitement in her tone.

On the other hand, her friends were simply texting someone, not feeling bothered with what Jessica was saying.

She wasn't bothered, for the past few days, Jane has always been with her phone, she was going to continue shopping when she saw her phone beeping. There was an emergency surgery that needed her help. Before leaving the hospital, she had instructed her staff to make sure they only call her for emergencies only.

Ohh she groaned, stamping her feet like a baby who was just denied his rights to have candy. What? Jane asked, as the noise caught her attention. I'm going to miss tonight's dinner date with George, there is an emergency at work, she explained.

This is not the first time you stood him up Jessi dear, don't worry, he would understand Jane said, looking back at her phone smiling.

I guess I will leave you to finish up here, see yay Jessica said as she waved goodbye, driving off.

Becca welcomed her in, the moment she stepped in. Becca are you alright Jessica asked worried about her pale face. Yes ma, she answered stammering, it was unusual for her to stammer, causing Jessica to get worried the more.

Sorry Ma but it was a false alarm Becca blunted out, closing her eyes not to see Jessica reaction. It's what Jessica asked, it wasn't her first time getting a false alarm or an irrelevant case, but she still comes to make sure nothing goes wrong, beside she could finally go back to George. Maybe buy dinner on the way, since it was too late to cook.

Becca answered with a nod, ok just call me whenever there is a real emergency this time she said leaving. She stopped at an eatery and simply ordered food which was well packaged for her.

She happily hummed as she drove, something singing to it out loud. Getting to George home, she saw he had company, with the extra female shoe's that were outside. It must be Jane shoes, as it looks exactly like the pair Jane wore, oh well, they will both have dinner together she thought.

Getting in, she was greeted with a trail of clothes, both Jane and George on the floor. She tried coming up with excuses but she knew she could not lie to herself anymore. The last trail of clothes ended in George's room, she swallowed nervously, as she opened the door. Waved off pain hit her, as she saw her best friend making out with her fiance.

The bags dropped from her hands drawing their attention. She couldn't bear it, she stormed off, crying.

BACK TO THE PRESENT.

She stood there, crying as the memories of the happy moments she shared was all she could think of.

Lost, she didn't notice when a masked man stood behind her, pointing a gun in her head. " Are you one of them? " he asked, pointing the gun at her.

Jessica slowly turned around, looking at the guy with nothing but misery in her eye. Since she didn't have the guts to end her life, maybe the stranger will help her, she thought, looking at him.

" Please kill me " she managed to say as the stranger looked at her confused. He frowned, removing his mask.

The gun dropped from his hand, as he kept looking at her, never in his life had he seen someone begging for death, he instantly knew she wasn't the one who was sent to kill him. But yet he was still puzzled by her, he was hurt, badly beaten, he knew he won't last long before losing consciousness, he wouldn't have time to face his opponent, as he stood he heard footsteps, they were becoming loud, he was running out of time, in a distance, he saw a car parked, he could ask her for the keys guessing also that it would be hers and then drive off.

But something about this lady made his plan pause, she was beautiful alright, more like a goddess, and yet she stood there asking for death. It seems like she was already on the verge of commiting suicide.

Pulling his jacket, he instantly wrapped it around her. "What are you doing? " Jessica asked, shocked by his actions. " Aren't you supposed to kill me " she asked again.

"My guns are meant for bad people only," he said, trying so hard to chuckle even though every inch of his body hurts. " Am a bad person, really, I killed ten thousand" Jessica said trying to convince him.

" Oh really and yet you couldn't jump over a tiny bridge" he mocked, laughing to himself. " Are you mocking me? " Jessica asked, eyeing him. " Me, oh no I'm just pointing out the truth" he replied mockingly.

" They are coming" he said sharply immediately they both heard footsteps approaching. " Who" Jessica tried asking. "Can you swim, love?" he asked.

" Yes, why? " Jessica responded just immediately, but before he could say anything, men in black surrounded them. " On my mark we jump,'' he said. " One, two, go,'' he yelled, pushing both of them to the water. But they weren't fast enough, they shot three times. Jessica opened her eyes to see one bullet.

" Mom I'm coming" she said, waiting for the bullet to hit her, finally she won't be an orphan anymore was her last thought.

Chapter 2 SPEECHLESS

Jessica's brain still couldn't process anything that had just happened, why did this guy save her?.

Didn't he want to live? Why did he take her chance of dying from her?.

She gently raised her eyes up as she looked at the girl who had taken the hit for her.

For her, the bullet would have touched her heart, however because of the impact he made, the bullet had only landed on his shoulder.

Passing through and brushing hers just a little bit. She also noticed that their area was now covered with his blood.

And if this continues, he could die from losing a lot of blood and she could die from suffocating as she didn't know how long she could hold her breath.

The men seem to be searching the areas, so she couldn't go up to gasp for air.

The last thing that held her down was the supposed unconscious stranger who had pinned her underneath him.

His eyes were wide open when he had felt her gaze on him. He eyes not leaving her one minute, as he knew a movement from her could cause those men to shoot.

He noticed her face becoming pale, he knew she needed air soon. He on the other didn't, as he was trained to stay under water for a long time.

However, he is still reminded that his fate lies with her movement, and that means he needs to keep her still as much as possible.

Resulting in a kiss, as he uses his mouth to seal her lip the moment she opens them, this causes Jessica eyes to open widely, frozen by what had just happened.

This went on, till they heard the retreating footsteps, and a long silence gave them assurance that they were gone.

She immediately broke free, going up to gasp for air. " Are you insane?" She asked, expecting the stranger to come up with her.

But he was up, she decided to dive down, only to find him struggling to get up with her.

" Shit," she exclaimed, realizing his injured shoulder made it difficult for him to swim.

She swam to him, helping him up to the top, and together, they both swam to the nearest shore.

Her heavy panting noise could be heard the moment she let go. " For a healthy girl, you seemed quite lazy," he muttered, watching her catch her breath.

" Lazy, I just saved your life" she screamed. " It is not a big deal, beside I saved yours first," he said, his eyes never leaving her.

Jessica scanned her body, only to notice that the water had made her clothes cling to her body, revealing her body.

" Pervert," she yelled as he chuckled. " I can see you still have energy, just keep that body till we get to the hospital, I don't want to be carrying you," she said, putting her hand to stand him up.

" Damon," he introduced, taking her hands as he stood up. " Well, I didn't ask for your name," she commented.

" Feisty," he teases, letting out a soft chuckle. She rolled her eyes, supporting him as they heard Main Street.

" I think you can leave now," he said, as they both stood in front of her car.

" Are you crazy, you need medical attention," she yelled. " I can go to the hospital, not yet," he calmly said.

" So what is your plan?" She asked. As he ignored her, walking ahead of her.

She entered her car, thinking twice about this stranger, she barely knew him, yet she couldn't and didn't want to let him die.

As a doctor, she couldn't just let him die, he had practically become a patient in her eyes.

Starting her engine, she drove her car, stopping in front of him. " Get in," she said.

" I told you, I can't go to the hospital," he said. " I know, but I can't just leave you like that," she says.

" Why?" He asked. " I can treat you," she replied, avoiding the question. " I'm a surgeon," she informs me.

" You do not want to get mixed up with me," he warns. " I don't plan to, once your wounds are safely secure, I can leave you to do whatever you want," she sharply replied.

"Are you going to take my offer?" She asked, watching Damon lower his eyes a bit.

After a while, he opened the door, which caused her to smile, as she drove off.

" For an injured guy, you sure have a lot of attitude," she muttered. He smirked, his eyes eyeing her, as he slowly lost consciousness.

" Well, you tried holding up so long," she said, increasing her speed. Stopping at her hospital to get some tools and medication.

She left out a soft sign when she had arrived at her destination. Rushing in to prepare the place.

She opened the door, leading him upstairs, and dropping him on the bed. Before rushing to get what she had gotten from the car.

She immediately started the treatment, cleaning the wound and began stitching it, before bandaging it.

By the time she was done, she could see the sun rising. She had her bath, taking her breakfast, still leaving some for him and a note. Before heading to work, changing to a clean clothes the moment she entered.

MEANWHILE.

Damon had woken up, to find himself in a storey building. He stood up, exploring the place, from the window, he could tell it was far from the city.

He could also tell it was an old house. Apart from the room he was in, the whole house furniture was covered, all releasing large amounts of dust when touched.

He finally comes to the kitchen, seeing the food and drugs with a note with instructions on how he should take them.

He couldn't help laughing at her handwriting." Well, she is a doctor," he muttered, settling down to eat.

Hours passed, and Jessica had closed from work, stopping to buy some groceries and male clothes, before heading home.

She opened the door, locking it immediately before proceeding to drop the groceries in the kitchen, before heading upstairs.

His eyes opened the moment she had opened the room door. " I see you rested enough," she said, dropping the bag of clothes in front of him.

He rolled his eyes at her statement. " Rested my foot, what was in the drug you gave me?" He said.

She smiled, as she had purposely added a sleeping pill, so he won't go around her stuff or stress the hand.

" Something to make you heal quickly. " Look, some pills have side effects like this, so it makes you sleep, it's just the side effects of the drug, the sooner you heal, the faster you won't have to take it," she defended when she saw his stare.

" Change your clothes, while I go make dinner," she sharply said, leaving immediately, without giving him a moment to utter any word.

A small smile creeped in his lip, as he proceeded to change, taking his time so he doesn't stress his wounds.

Before going downstairs, sitting on the table as he watches her cook.

" Do you leave here alone?" He asked, trying to start up a conversation.

" This isn't my main house, I only come here when I'm on vacation," she replied.

" Ok," he muttered. Not knowing what to ask next. This left them in an awkward silence.

And the only noise that followed, was the sound of her dropping his food in front of him.

" Not the very best, I suck at cooking," she informed me.

" Well it nice," he complimented, causing Jessica to laugh.

" You haven't eaten it yet and you say it's nice," she said in between her laughter.

" I don't need to, as far as it was made by someone so beautiful, it would be delicious," he teased as she laughed the more.

" Did anyone ever say you had a beautiful laugh," he asked. " You are teasing me, do you want something," she asked back.

"Actually yes I do want something, but I didn't compliment you to get what I wanted," he clarified.

" So what do you want?" She asked, ignoring his words. " A cell phone," he replied. " Can I use your cell phone?" He requested.

" Sure, you can" she says, giving him her phone, unlocking it for him.

He immediately head to the news, reading the headline of his missing..

" Oh, those mafia," she said when she had a glance at what he was reading.

" Always wanting control, I really hate them," she said in an angry tone.

Causing Damon to glance at him. finally understanding why she never recognized him.

" Speaking of which, why were they after you?And what do you do for a living?" She questions.

Her curious eyes pierced through him. He could not tell if it was safe for him to reveal to her that he is a mafia Lord.

Normally, he would boast about the money he has and people he controls to other girls, causing them to be drawn to him. But she was different, she already hated the job he does, she hated his identity as a whole.

He looked at her curious eyes once more, as they waited for an answer. And yet he struggles to produce an answer for her.

"What could I say," his thoughts questioned himself. Knowing fully well that he had to reject his identity or accept it.

He could either have her by his side by force or using tricks and lies. All this leaving him speechless as he is yet to produce an answer.

Chapter 3 I DON'T WANT TO FEEL PAIN

THIRD PERSON POV.

" Is something wrong with my question," Jessica asked. " No, I was thinking about something," he replied.

" I feel like they mistake me for someone else," he lied. " Because I couldn't find a reason why they wanted me dead," he went on.

" Oh, that's sad, so you would have died for someone else," she said, sounding a bit annoyed.

" So then, what is your occupation?" She asked. " I'm a businessman," he replied.

" Enough about me, why were you about to jump down," he asked. Her expression changed immediately he had asked.

" Just some issues," she mumbled. " What kind?" He asked.

" Well, I caught my fiance with my best friend," she reluctantly answered. This cause him to laugh a bit, as it wasn't something he had expected.

" What funny?" She asked as he saw her serious eyes. " Wow, you are fucking serious, you actually wanted to kill yourself for a guy," he said in an amusing tone.

" People normally kill themselves because of debt, that's an understandable cause, but for a guy, did you think about your family, your love ones" he yelled, causing her to scoff.

" Laugh all you want, and yes I actually did kill myself because of a guy. And he wasn't just any guy, he was the man I thought I could call family since I didn't have one, him and her were people I thought I was leaving for, because they were the only one I thought I had apart from my brother who for the past ten years have been in coma, and currently I don't even have a love one, I don't have anyone to even miss me when am gone," she let out.

Tears flowing from her eyes, she picked up her phone, going outside. This left Damon speechless as he immediately regretted his choice of words.

He played with his fork, debating whether to follow her or not, before finally dropping it and going after her.

Following her footsteps, he was able to locate her in the playground. She sat on the swing, her head facing down only looking up when he was closed to her.

" Look, I said the wrong set of words and I didn't mean to," he says. His mouth becomes heavy as he struggles to apologise.

She smiled at his expression, enjoying his struggle. " I'm sorry," he sharply said. .

" Is this the first time you apologise to someone," she asked as he nodded, seated in the next swing.

" Don't you communicate with people," she questioned. " Well, people are usually scared of my appearance," he admitted.

"Well you don't look scary," she muttered." Let's say you don't know me fully," he says.

" So are we cool," he asked, not getting an answer. " You know, I had an impression that they are alive because of the house," he justify.

" Are you trying to defend yourself?" She asked as she stared at him. She inhaled loudly, looking at the building.

" This house is the only thing I have from my parents," she replied. " It wasn't easy getting it," she went on.

" I created a false story of it being hunted, to scare buyers, till I could get money to buy it from the market," she finishes.

" And people actually believe it?" He asked. " Well, my brother would sneak out of the orphanage and come here, he would scare the family that lives there, so when two families left saying it was haunted, who would want to stay," she answered, this made Damon laugh.

" I can't believe I was selfish, I actually forgot about him, I promised to be by his side when he was awake, yet I failed that promise," she mumbled.

" I would have said thank you, but I'm actually treating you for free, so you don't need it," she said.

" Well, I wouldn't have been in this condition without you," he pointed out. " Don't push it, mister," she warned as he laughed, as they both laughed.

" So tell me, don't you have any loved one worried about you, maybe like your wife," she asked.

" No, are you trying to ask me if I'm single," he says. " Are you single then?" she questioned.

" Yes," he answered as she gasped. " No, I don't believe it, a handsome guy like you, still single,I don't believe" she said.

" Wow, you just compliment me, do you want something from me," he said, reusing her words.

" Come, let go inside, I want to change your stitch," she says, heading towards the house ahead of him.

" Well, I'm telling you the truth, I'm single," he clarified, running to catch up.

" Then are you the player type," she asked, shutting the door. She was already at the fifth step when she realized he was still at the door.

" You are a player," she said. " Let's say life's situation made me so," he replied, resuming his steps.

" How?" She questioned with raised eyebrows.

" Let's say, women dated me only because of the money and status I offered, as I accept to satisfy my sexual need," he replied, walking past a shock Jessica.

" So let's say that maybe we are the same person after all," he went on.

" No we are not, I didn't have someone who used me," she defended.

" So you are saying that your fiance didn't use you to attain his personal need," he questioned.

Jessica pauses a bit in her words, as she realized that all through their years they have been together, she was the only one earning. This expression on her face confirmed his words as he smiled.

" Like you have not done stupid things for love," she defended, as he shook his head.

" I haven't," he brags. " Well, one day, you would meet a girl, who would make you recklessly, a girl who would push you against all your principles and boundaries," she says in a lovely tone.

" I don't see that happening," he claims as she smiles. " Take off your shirt," she commands, as he follows.

" I don't think you would know when that will happen," she mumbled as she started undressing his words, humming as she attended to his wounds.

" Well, within this week, your injuries will improve with a few scars," she said after she was done, only to find him sleeping.

Her humming had made him fall asleep easily. She giggles as she places him well on the bed, covering him.

She brought out a blanket and laid down on the couch opposite the bed, covering herself as she laid asleep.

The next morning, Damon had woken up to hear sounds coming from downstairs. Taking the scalpel from the table, he heads down, planning on using it as a defensive tool.

However, it has backfired as he only startled Jessica. " Fuck, i didn't know it was you," he defended dropping the scalpel.

" Oh my gosh," she muttered, still having goosebumps of what just happened.

" It's understandable, you nearly got killed, so you might want to be defensive, however this place is safe, I promise," she assured, picking up the scalpel.

" And I think I should be careful where I leave this," she says, staring at it.

" Aren't you supposed to go to work?" He asked. " I did, there weren't any patients, so I came back," she replied.

" I also took one week off," she added. "Why?" He asked for a puzzle.

"Well, I saw my ex and my former best friend and I don't think I'm ready to face any of them," she replied.

" Want to watch the resident with me?" She inquired. " What is it about?" He questioned.

" Well, it is doctor related, don't think you would be interested," she replied, her tone dropping.

"What can we both watch together?" She questioned. " I will pick," he said.

He wasn't a movie type, however he felt watching a doctor show would be boring, so he scanned through his option, stopping at a movie with a bloody back.

" this would do," he said, putting it on, and sitting down. " that horror," she muttered.

" Why are you scared," he questioned. " No, I'm a fan," she lied. " It wouldn't be there if I don't watch these types," she defended, grabbing the popcorn and sitting next to him.

" I thought you said you watch this," he teases, halfway through the movie as Jessica had turned him into a human shield.

" I'm not, I just like your scent," she lied, as he laughed at her words. " It's true, I'm not scared," she defended, as his facial expression still show doubt.

" Fine, I'm going upstairs," she announces, standing up and leaving.

Seconds later, she timidly came back, her step getting his attention. " Fine, I'm scared, " she admitted as he chuckled,. pausing the film.

" Well, that was fun," he muttered. " How was the movie fun," she asked.

" Not the movie dummy, you," he replied. " Wow, so you enjoy torturing people," she says.

" To get what I want, yes," he admitted, standing up off the TV. She rolled her eyes at his statement, as she headed to the couch to pick up her phone.

" Now I understand why you don't have any friends," she muttered, heading to the kitchen.

He follows her, hearing her upset tone. " You are not seriously angry are you," he questioned.

" Yes, you made me watch a scary movie, I only watch that when I have someone to cuddle with, but now I'm single, and I have to try falling asleep with those memories in my head," she replied, drinking her glass of water.

" Well, you said you could handle it," he defended. " Here you go, blaming it on me," she said.

" Fine, if you're so scared, I could cuddle you for the night," he offered, her reaction causing the glass in her hand to fall, scattering as it hit the ground.

" Don't do that" she mumbled. " Don't do what?," He asked. " Making offers like that," she replied.

" Why?" He questioned. " Because, I fall very easily, and I don't want that, I don't want pain," she answered.

" What if I told you what I wanted," he questioned. " What would you do," he asked.
