Chapter 1 Mollie's Boyfriend and His Fiancée

Sitting in a taxi, Mollie Hacket had subtle, pleasing emotions surging up in her heart.

This day was her twentieth birthday and the first anniversary of her romantic relationship with Jalen Whitley.

To celebrate this special day, Jalen booked a five-star hotel and invited all Mollie's classmates.

Lydia Young, Mollie's best friend, guessed that Jalen was probably taking this opportunity to propose to Mollie.

If so, should she agree to Jalen's proposal?

With a sense of anxiety, Mollie arrived at the hotel. Jalen opened the car door for her tenderly and helped her out of it carefully.

Jalen's handsome face and gentle eyes made the onlookers envious of Mollie.

The two entered slowly into the hotel lobby. There were photos of the couple displaying on the screen right opposite the entrance. Mollie's classmates wished her a happy birthday in unison.

At this moment, Mollie experienced the greatest happiness in her twenty years of life.

All of a sudden, the hotel door was pushed open. Ten well-trained bodyguards in black stepped in, quickly divided into two teams, and stood neatly in line.

A pretty, sexy woman followed them to appear. Her inky hair was flying in the breeze, and her red lips were like flames. She was in black high-heeled boots, a black leather skirt, a black lace shirt, and a fluffy white waistcoat.

Mollie did not think she had ever seen this woman before. She tilted her head and planned to ask Jalen if the stranger was his friend. Then, she saw him tightened up and that his eyes were filled with panic.

"Jalen, do you know this lady?" Mollie's clear voice was incredibly pleasant.

Looking at the other woman not far away, Jalen opened his mouth but did not know how to answer Mollie's question.

At this time, the strange woman replied in a soft voice, "I am Amelia Lewes, Jalen's fiancée!"

As she spoke, she walked up to Mollie and Jalen and gazed at the latter with a stern look in her eyes.

Restless buzzing instantly overwhelmed the hall.

"What's going on?"

"How can Mollie's boyfriend have a fiancée?"

Mollie's brain went blank amidst those classmates' rumblings. She blinked her crystal-clear eyes and stared at Jalen in disbelief.

Then she flashed an unnatural smile, asking, "She's your friend? Is she playing a joke on you?"

Under Amelia's proud gaze, Jalen gritted his teeth and said in a trembling voice, "Mollie, she is my fiancée."

His words exploded in Mollie's mind like a mine, exploding those candied images between them into bloody pieces.

"How could she be your fiancée?" Mollie could not believe what she heard.

Mollie thought she knew all of Jalen's friends, and she had never heard a word about his fiancée from them. If Jalen betrayed her, how could she be so clueless? Was he too good at cheating, or was she too silly?

"We got engaged three months ago. You are just a homewrecker."

Looking at Mollie, Amelia smiled disdainfully. Indeed, she got engaged to Jalen three months ago. However, there was no love between them. In the past few months, she was abroad. So, she turned a blind eye to what Jalen did.

Since she was back, she certainly cannot allow her fiancé to mess with other women. She did not care about him, but she did care about the reputation of the Lewes Family.

A homewrecker!

The title stung Mollie's heart severely. In fact, she hated those who destroyed other people's relationships most. However, she had played such a role for a long time without even realizing it.

Various kinds of complex emotions were tumbling in Mollie's heart: humiliation, disgust, remorse.

She lifted her hand and slapped Jalen hard in the face. "You have the right to be a scumbag. Please don't get me involved. I have self-esteem!"

Chapter 2 The Break-Up

"Mollie...I..." Jalen wanted to say that he sincerely liked Mollie. But when he glanced at Amelia on the side, he decided to say nothing. The Lewes Family was one of the four most wealthy and influential families in City Empire, and he could not afford to offend them.

Mollie paid no further attention to him but turned to Amelia solemnly and said, "I didn't know he was engaged to you, so it wasn't my intention to hurt you. I'm terribly sorry if I've done you any harm."

She was the one who first got together with Jalen. However, how could the status of a girlfriend be compared to that of the fiancée? She valued her individuality and dignity more than her love.

With that, she left the hotel on her ten-centimeter hells with a straight back, but no one knew that her delicate face was covered by tears.

The happiness and fairy tales she believed in was nothing but all lies of Jalen.

A drizzle fell at this moment. Mollies wondered if the sky was crying for her misery or laughing at her innocence.

There were few people on the street. Mollie's slim, slender figure was reflected upon those transparent glass windows.

Her eyes were bright, and her teeth were shining. She was in the long cream-colored dress with a fringed hem given by Jalen as a gift.

Eventually, she could not pretend that she was fine, slowly squatted down on the ground, and held her arms tightly, crying in the deserted street for her pathetic love like a helpless child.

"Mollie!"

Lydia noticed Mollie's devastation from not far away and felt distressed for her. She had never witnessed her tough, calm friend be so miserable before.

If she had not been late earlier, she would have smashed Jalen's head.

She walked up to Mollie and gently patted her on the back. "Go ahead and cry it out. It'll make you feel better."

Mollie, who had been bawling, suddenly looked up and wiped her tears. "Lydia, I need a drink."

People said alcohol could dispel sorrows and worries. Mollie was desperate to get drunk. Otherwise, she would get more and more saddened, then go for Jalen and beat him up.

"Okay, I will take you for a drink, but you need to get off the soaked dress."

Under Lydia's supervision, Mollie put on a voluptuous, feminine strapless dress and threw the one that Jalen presented into the trash can. It was meaningless for her to keep the legacy from a bad romance any longer.

It was rare for Mollie to visit a bar. However, upon seeing those men and women on the dance floor, she became incredibly excited as if her inner unhappiness had been vented.

"Come on, honey. Cheers!" Mollie's sight was slightly blurry after several rounds of drink. However, she wanted more.

Lydia was a better drinker than Mollie. Seeing that the latter was already drunk, she said, "That's enough for tonight. Let's go dancing!"

Mollie shook her head and pursed her lips, saying, "No, I don't know how to dance. I just want to drink. You go ahead." She did not enjoy dancing since she was a kid, as it always made her shy.

"Alright, then. Be nice and wait for me here. I'll be back in ten minutes."

Once Lydia left, Mollie got up and walked towards the restroom, vacillating and staggering.

Due to her dizziness or sedentariness, Mollie suddenly fainted and knocked into somebody's chest.

Rubbing her head, she lifted her head to see a handsome face.

The man's eyes were dark and deep, his nose was high and straight, and his thin lips were attractive and sexy.

His sword-shaped long brows were giving off a charming vibe.

Mollie had never met such a pretty man before and felt like the alcohol had taken all her sanity away.

Chapter 3 The Skirmish at the Bar

She stared dazedly at the man in front of her and murmured, "You're so good looking, much better than my ex-boyfriend."

At the thought of her ex-boyfriend, Mollie's eyes were filled with tears once again. "Inexcusably, handsome men are all love rats and liars!"

"Why did you lie to me?"

Lucas Goodwin stared at the girl before him with confusion. There were tears upon her delicate face, and she looked like an elegant pear blossom after rain.

However, the indecent dress on her body spoiled the overall beauty. Lucas thought that she might be a college student who admired vanity and hoped to get to know a wealthy boyfriend here.

He had met countless girls who pretended to be drunk to catch his attention.

Therefore, he said in a cold voice, "Get out of my way!"

Then, he lifted his hand to push Mollie to one side mercilessly. The woman was initially unsteady on her legs, and due to the push, she fell directly to the ground.

There was a sharp pain in her knees. Mollie eventually flew into a rage.

With her teeth gritted, she swiftly stood up, grabbed Lucas by the wrist, rotated her own body, and then slammed the 1.85-meter man hard on the floor.

Just then, the loud music stopped abruptly, and people on the spot all looked at them with curiosity.

Mollie, who was still dazed, scolded angrily, "Don't think that you can bully me. Believe it or not, I'll knock all of you over!"

She had just learned that her ex-boyfriend cheated on her and wanted to dissolve her sorrows with alcohol. Still, she was not allowed to stay in peace. The man before her eyes was good-looking indeed, but so what?

Benjamin Jenkins, who came down to pick up Lucas from the second floor, was shocked to see this scene. Lucas was an overwhelming, frightening businessman in the business field in City Empire. Surprisingly, a seemingly fragile girl knocked him down in public.

Lucas was also stunned. He did not take the young woman seriously in the first place at all. Unexpectedly, his carelessness left her with a chance. He did not expect anyone to dare to hit him during his lifetime.

He supported his body with one hand, stood up gracefully, and raised his eyes condescendingly at Mollie, giving off a frosty vibe through his deep eye sockets.

"Girl, are you trying to get yourself killed?" His voice was not loud, but the coercion was tremendous.

In regular times, Mollie would feel frightened of the furious man. However, at this moment, she had no idea what she was doing.

Mollie replied in an annoyed tone of voice, "I'm not some girl. I have a name, Mollie Hacket." Being called a girl was a kind of contempt for her, and she hated it.

"Mollie Hacket!" Lucas repeated the woman's name through clenched teeth, and then said to the bodyguard next to him, "Bring her back with us." He was going to teach the ignorant girl a hard lesson.

"Stop. Stop. Don't touch her." Lydia ran over to the scene from the dance floor and hurried to embrace Mollie into her arms.

Lydia met Lucas before at some parties that she attended together with her father. He was rumored to own a quirky personality and a tendency to violence.

She wondered how Mollie could beat the man up while she was away for just several minutes.

Although she was frightened and her heart thumped, she still maintained a composed surface. Even though the man she faced was Lucas, she would not let him hurt Mollie.

With his eyes slightly narrowed, Lucas asked in a light voice, "Are you from the Young Family?" He was not familiar with beauties in town. Still, he was somewhat impressed by people from the four supreme families in City Empire.

"Yes, I am." At this moment, Lydia felt grateful for her identity as she knew the four families secretly competed for fame and fortune with each other though, they at least tried to maintain a relatively peaceful relationship on the surface. Presumably, after learning that she was a member of the Young Family, Lucas would not make things difficult for them.
