Chapter 1 Evidences Gone

Nina's POV

The letters on the desk were not there again.

Where could I have placed them? My mind was a little bit preoccupied with things so I wouldn't know where I kept the letters but I was sure I kept it on my desk.

"I'm sorry Miss Nina but if you cannot find the letters, I'm sorry we'll have to leave." Detective Allen said, jerking me back to reality.

"You should check the CCTV footage, you might find something helpful."

He let out a frustrated sigh. "The street lights and security cameras were down yesterday night and there's no CCTV footage. There's also no proof that you were attacked and that's the main reason why we can't help you." He explained gently.

I had been seriously looking for the evidence that I was attacked last night but I couldn't find it. I had also received a threatening letter on my desk the previous day with the word 'Die' on it but didn't take it seriously till I was attacked.

"But the letters were on my table last night and I saw them before leaving the office. How's this possible?" I asked, annoyed.

"Mrs Nina, I'm sorry we have to leave." He replied and left almost immediately after scanning through my corridor.

I stopped halfway at the corridor. "Look, I'm a senator's daughter and I have my way around things. I was wondering if you could just file the report that I was attacked by some hoodlums last night. They were going to kill me..."

"Then how did you escape?" He inquired, suspiciously.

Why didn't everyone understand me? Someone saved me and I didn't even know who it was. He wore a mask that hid his face.

"Well, someone saved me. I hate repeating myself, I thought I mentioned that in the statement I wrote."

"It sounds suspicious and ridiculous. This is not some superhero type of movie... there's absolutely no real Spiderman, Superman or the Flash to save you. I'm sorry but I can't help you until you find the letters your assumed 'gunmen' sent to you." He replied.

I took a deep breath, before sending them to hell with insults. "Aren't you guys bunch of incompetent fools? I'm going to make you pay for this. You'll definitely regret this when I'm done with you."

He ignored me and walked into the lift making me look like a fool to the other staff nearby.

I stared at the floor in anger. How dare they disrespect me? I was attacked by unknown men and why didn't they want to believe me.

It was even more annoying. My dad could make me work in his company but he decided to make me a secretary in another man's company. Nothing was more frustrating and annoying than seeing my boss's face.

And all the fake smiles I had to put up just because I was faking a love relationship with Greg, the son of the bastard family that murdered my mom. They believed I didn't know and it was better like that.

However, it was to my benefit because I was playing my cards well. Even though I didn't like Greg, I was still using him and his company. I was sure that very soon, I'll own a major share in his company and become the queen I was meant to be.

And speaking of the devil, Greg walked towards me and placed a kiss on my forehead. "When did you come?" He inquired.

"An hour ago, I was in my office and I forgot to visit your office to greet you."

He scratched his eyebrows. "No, it's fine. I should be asking after you, what's wrong with you? What happened last night?"

I pretended to fake a cry. "I was attacked last night by three gunmen, I don't know what they want from me."

He brought me close to his side and hugged me. "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry this happened. Have you informed your father?" He asked and I nodded.

"Yeah, didn't you see the detective he sent?"

He shook his head. "No, I'm just coming, I didn't see anyone. What did he say? Does he believe you?" He asked.

"No, he doesn't. I doubt he has some brain cells in his big head."

"What's his name? I'll get him sacked from office immediately and teach him a lesson. No one should mess with my girlfriend." Greg thundered angrily as he slammed a fist into a table.

I had to do something. I didn't want him to make anyone suffer because of me. I was planning on using him but I was very careful not to let anyone get into my plans.

"No, you don't have to do that. This is my business and I'll handle it myself."

He ran a hand through his hair, slightly pissed off but relieved that I was okay. "Are you sure? I can offer assistance if you want. I can lock down the whole Los Vegas if you want, I just want you to be happy." He said.

I suppressed a smile at his foolish attitude. "It's alright hun, I'm alright. Just take care of yourself."

He nodded. "Care for a date tonight?" He inquired.

This could be the perfect time to get to know his plans so I could use it against him. "A date? That's a brilliant idea. I'll certainly love to go on a date with you, I can't wait."

He smiled. "Alright then, I'll be expecting you by 7PM tonight, don't be late, I hate being kept waiting."

I nodded and watched him walk into his office.

"Just wait till I find out if it was really you who sent those men to kill me, I'll make you pay, Mr Greg." I murmured to myself.

As I went back into my office, I felt frustrated and lonely. There was no single person I could trust, I couldn't even trust anyone. I looked into my purse and brought out the ring my helper forgot after he helped me fight the bad men.

After slipping it into my pocket, the door was pushed open and my dad walked in with a man following him, he was wearing a dark eyeglass so I couldn't really see his face.

"Good morning Dad, it's nice to see you here."

My dad gave me a cold smile. "Happy to see me? Well, I'm not happy to see you. I'm just here because I don't want you to get hurt." He replied and avoided my gaze.

I knew why he didn't like me.

He felt I was the reason for Mom's death. She left the house to get me a cake on my birthday and she never returned. She died.

Her body was found in a car accident the next day and Dad could never forgive me even until now.

But I knew it was a lie, I had heard her talking to someone on the phone before leaving the house and she had written a Latin word that only the Peterson's family used on a piece of paper before leaving the house that day. They had killed her and made it seem like an accident. THOSE BASTARDS!!!

"Thanks for caring for me."

He scoffed. "I don't care about you,"

I could sense the lie in his voice and kept quiet. "Alright, I'll just go straight to the point," he said and pointed to the guy beside him. "He'll be your bodyguard from now on." He announced and I felt my heart skip a beat.

No, this was not happening.

I definitely didn't want a bodyguard.

Chapter 2 The Bodyguard

Nina's POV

"A bodyguard?" I cringed in fright.

There was no way I would stay with that guy, I didn't want a bodyguard that would ruin my plans.

"Yes, a bodyguard. You have a bodyguard now." Dad answered and the guy removed his glasses exposing his deep blue eyes that made him look more handsome. I had never seen such a handsome guy in my life... well except for my highschool crush.

I continued to survey my dad thoughtfully. Why did he have to assign a bodyguard to me? "I don't really need a bodyguard, I can take care of myself." I told him bluntly and he chuckled softly.

"Really? You're just an ungrateful spoiled brat. I expect you to at least appreciate me for your new bodyguard who'll protect you from gangsters. You can't fight these battles on your own. There are people who hate you."

"I'm not afraid of those gangsters." I replied, pretending to be a little bit bold.

"What would it cost for you to appreciate my nice gesture? I want him to be your bodyguard and that's final. I have a lot of enemies and competitors out there and they'll want to kill you at any opportunity they get."

I scoffed. "Now I'm dragged into your mess because I'm the daughter of a senator and a CEO of a reputable company."

He corrected me. "No, you're not. You dragged yourself into this mess yourself. I'm sure you definitely remember how you constantly tweeted about being the Senator's daughter, you even had an online website increase your Instagram and Twitter followers just to achieve fame."

"Well, I deactivated my accounts,"

He didn't look convinced.

Well, that was a publicity stunt to gain fans and followers which I probably didn't gain.

I frowned and pushed a strand of my hair behind my ear. Why was he so stubborn? Having a bodyguard would ruin my plans to have a share in Gregory's company. Having a Bodyguard would definitely ruin my revenge plan that I had planned for years.

"I just did all that for fame, I love when people fear and respect me." I fired back.

"That's why I didn't make you the CEO of my company, you haven't even learnt anything. You're still the proud daughter I always had." He muttered in frustration as he brought out his pills from his pocket and took them.

I was concerned about him.

I didn't want anything bad to happen to him. Even though we had all these disagreements, I could resist the fact that he was my father and I loved him so much.

"Have you gone to the hospital for a medical check-up?" I asked.

He nodded and cleared his throat. "Yeah, I have and I'm alright. You don't have to be worried about me."

'He's quite good-looking!' I thought to myself as I looked at my new bodyguard's sharp features. 'Alright, since he's really handsome, I was not really at loss here.' I thought to myself.

I shrugged. "Fine, I'll agree for him to be my bodyguard."

"It's not like you have a choice. He'll also help you out in anything you want to do," Dad said and I slowly nodded. "Alright, I'll be heading home now." He added and left the office slamming the door behind him.

I took a deep breath before looking at the young handsome man in front of me. "Funny enough, I don't know your name," I murmured. He stole a glance at me and immediately ignored me.

I felt embarrassed. "What's your fucking name?" I snapped.

He stammered, surprised at my outburst. "Kaden.... Kaden Collins."

I nodded and sat down on my chair. "Alright then, you can leave now. I'm quite busy, I'll look for you when I'm ready to leave the office,"

He ignored me again and this was already making me lose my mind. If I was a fan of horror movies, I would have said he was behaving a little bit weird and creepy.

"Are you deaf? Aren't you going to say anything?"

He shrugged. "Your father doesn't want you to go anywhere without me, I'm sorry but I have to follow the strict orders from your father."

This was really frustrating. I had to cope with all these stupid and new arrangements. "I don't even need your help. Why did you accept this job?" I asked him and he refused to answer.

Greg walked into my office and was surprised to see a man in my office dressed up as a bodyguard. "Your new bodyguard?" He asked me and I nodded.

"My annoying new bodyguard who can't let me do anything." I rephrased with a frown.

"Well, I think it's for the best. It's not actually bad if you have a bodyguard, it'll make you more respected in the society as a senator's daughter."

Yeah, he had a point but it was still useless.

What would I think if I always had a handsome bodyguard following me?

I slowly nodded and decided that I wasn't ready for a date with him tonight, I just needed to have fun alone. "And how about we reschedule our date for tomorrow? I'll be busy tonight."

He frowned. "Why? I thought we already agreed on this."

"Y-yea," I stuttered. "I'm just having a headache and I want to rest." I lied.

"Alright, I'll drive you to the hospital." He offered.

I shook my head immediately and tried not to make him suspicious of me. "No, I'm not sick. It's just a headache."

He nodded and walked towards the door. "Hun, do not hesitate to call me if you need my help." With that, he walked out of my office.

I decided to visit my friends and I silently hoped I could find a way to escape from the hot guy standing in front of me.

And how was this possible?

This was not comfortable, I was with a stranger who called himself my bodyguard 24/7. It was really not comfortable for me.

He should listen to my rules and not my father. He's working for me and not my father. Why was it so hard for him to understand?

"I'm heading off to my friend's house. You should wait here."

He shook his head. "I'll follow you, it's my duty to protect you."

"From what?" I asked, angrily. "You work for me and you don't work for my dad. I've watched films and I've seen the bodyguards listen to their bosses but yours is totally different. What's wrong with you? I'm giving you instructions as your boss and you're not listening to me." I voiced out in frustration. I was trying to act kind and gentle but it was not working. He was trying to act annoying and irritating.

He walked towards me and put his hand all over my neck pushing me to the wall fiercely.

Chapter 3 Attempted Abuse

Nina's POV

I wouldn't lie, his touch around my neck got me aroused but I pushed him away, scare

"What are you doing?"

"I'm sorry, ma'am." He apologized at once.

"As your boss, I should...."

He cut in rudely. "You're not my boss." He replied.

My heart fell into pieces. That was a clear violation that rendered me speechless.

He was so rude!

"Alright, I'm sure you can drive."

"Yes ma'am."

I nodded. "My car's in the garage, go get it and meet me in front of the organization."

"I can't."

I took a deep breath and faked a smile to look gentle. "Alright, let's go to the parking lot together." I replied and walked out of the office.

We both entered the lift and I pressed the first floor button. I just wasn't used to this new arrangement.

After the lift opened, we came out and walked into the parking lot. I walked into the backseat while he occupied the driver's seat.

"Take me home." I told him.

"Home?" He asked, confused. "I thought you wanted to go to your friend's house."

"It's none of your business, just take me home." I told him and he drove off.

For what felt like the worst moment of my life, I wished I didn't say anything about the men who attacked me.

I was very desperate to change my bodyguard, I wish I could find someone who would replace Kaden and convince my dad to employ him.

"You're not going to come in, are you?" I asked him.

"Yes, I'll be going home." He answered as soon as he parked the car in the garage. I got down from the car with a frown on my face.

My dad came out of the house and smiled at us. "It's nice to see that I finally have someone taking care of my daughter and making sure she's safe." He said.

"Isn't that your duty as a father?"

He chuckled softly. "Yes but irresponsible girls don't deserve it."

Frowning, I ignored him.

I didn't want him to say one more word so Kaden could leave immediately so I could find a way to sneak out of the house.

"Sir, I'll take my leave now." Kaden announced.

"No, you should stay for lunch since you both came back early." Dad advised and took him into the house.

I almost cried and threw myself to the floor. I was crying inside myself in so many languages.

Was my Dad doing this intentionally to frustrate me? Was he trying to make my life more miserable and add to my problems?

Walking into the house, I tried to make a straight face but I ended up giving Kaden a cold look.

And why was he so calm?

I expected him to be annoyed and quit his job as my bodyguard. I just wanted to make him annoyed and frustrated so he would quit being my bodyguard and leave me alone.

Seeing him on the dining table made me more annoyed.

"Nina, aren't you going to have lunch with us?"

"I'm not interested." I answered and slumped down on the sofa like a tired woman coming back from work.

"Don't you think it's a good time for all of us to know and understand each other." He suggested and I turned to look at him.

He was definitely right.

This was the perfect time to get to know Kaden so I could figure out a way to make him quit his job. "Alright, you win, I give up." I said as I walked to the dining and pulled out a chair.

Sitting down, I stole glances at Kaden, he ate his cornflakes quietly and avoided my gaze.

What was wrong with him?

Why couldn't he look at me even if it was for a second?

"Yeah, huh Kaden, do you have parents?" Dad asked him and he nodded.

"Yes, I also have a younger brother and a sister who care about me a lot."

I wish I could say the same thing but my mom never got the chance to become pregnant again until she died.

I decided to chip in something so as not to make the conversation look boring." Wow, a younger brother. I'm sure he's stubborn." I remarked and Kaden stared at me for a few seconds before focusing on his meal.

Wait, did he just ignore me again? What kind of person is he?

It was annoying but I wondered if he would just ignore me all day like I was a piece of shit.

"Kaden, what do you think about my daughter?" My dad asked.

He stole a glance at me before answering. "I haven't really spent much time with her so I wouldn't know her actual behavior."

"I don't care about what you think. No one cares actually, the world doesn't revolve around you." I told him bluntly and stood up, angrily.

"I'm sorry about my daughter's behavior, she's just sad and probably stressed about what happened last night." I heard dad apologising to Kaden before I climbed the stairs and walked straight into my room.

I also wondered why I was getting worked up.

Sitting down on the bed, I suddenly remembered the guy who saved me from those men yesterday night.

And why did he use a mask?

I just had to visit the bar for some drinks, I'll need a couple of drinks to make me feel and look alright.

Sneaking out if the house was not what I loved doing but I just had to.

With everything that happened, I knew the men that tried to kill me would possibly not come for me again.

***********

After a slight wavering, I squeezed myself onto the main empty seat at the bar-a stool with a torn cowhide seat. Smoke pervaded the room, constraining me to take on a squint as I kept the door in view. Televisions blasted upward and some drivers slumped to one or the other side of me, the assortment of void shot glasses and brew mugs in front of them proposing vacation consumers. I set my purse on the bar and tried to flag down a bartender, accidentally dragging my sleeve through a spill of beer.

Booming sounds, lights that could cause one to feel unsteady, bodies crushing each other.

As I took the last shot of beer , I stood up and sluggishly went to the dance floor. I just needed to have fun since my bodyguard was not around me again.

While moving the night away, moving my body to the best of the music without disturbing anybody, It felt like somebody was all the while staring at me.

Out of nowhere, I felt a hand on my waist and I shuddered. Turning around, I found a tall and muscular man who seemed to be a predator prepared to jump on his prey.

"Hi, you look beautiful." He said with a smirk.

Was his intentions genuine?

"Thank you." I murmured.

"What is a beautiful lady like you doing all alone in such a place like this?"

I frowned. "Go away," I politely told him and started to walk away but he grabbed my arm.

"I know ladies like you, cheap whores like you who can't afford to pay their bills. I'm sure the main reason you came to this bar to have sex and all that......."

It was his audacity for me.

I immediately felt disgusted by his stupid remarks. And where was my bodyguard when I needed him?

The man got a hold of my hand and dragged me with him. No one was noticing us because the music was too loud and everyone was dancing. As I tried to release myself from his grip, he held my hand tightly. He took me to the restroom, I was more than scared.
