Chapter 1 The Stranger in the Night

The night had a way of swallowing the city whole, turning streets into veins of shadow and secrets. I walked quickly, heels clicking against cobblestone as the wind whipped around me, carrying whispers I couldn't quite understand.

I had always been drawn to the unusual in my line of work. My occupation ,a midnight archivist for rare occult texts wasn't normal, but it had its perks. Among them: rare discoveries, strange visitors, and occasionally, a brush with the supernatural.

But tonight felt different.

A presence lingered behind me, subtle at first, almost polite. And then, unmistakable ,a shadow that moved with intent, deliberate and silent.

I turned.

And froze.

He was there. Leaning casually against the corner of the alleyway, yet every inch of him radiated control. Dominant. Arrogant. Terrifyingly... attractive.

His eyes, dark as the void, fixed on me with a knowing hunger. Not just curiosity, but something deeper, something older.

"You shouldn't be out here alone," he said, his voice smooth, low, with a musical danger that vibrated in my chest.

"I'm not afraid," I replied, forcing confidence I didn't feel.

A slow, predatory smile curved his lips. "No... I can tell. But that doesn't mean danger won't find you."

Something in the air shifted. I couldn't place it ,fear? Desire? The thrill of knowing he was no ordinary man?

"You... aren't human," I said before I could stop myself.

He chuckled softly, a sound that made my skin prickle and my heart race. "You're observant. But careful. Some truths are better left undiscovered."

And yet, I couldn't step back. Something magnetic pulled me forward, closer to the edge of the alley, closer to him, closer to... the unknown.

That night, I realized life as I knew it was ending. And the darkness waiting to consume me was far more alive than I had ever imagined.
