I slowly approached him. My fingertips were lightly tracing the faint red mark on his neck. "Tell me, how does it feel to see Liam being arrested?"
Lucas' Adam's apple bobbed slightly and said, his voice tinged with a hint of pleasure. "I feel... great."
Hearing this response, I wasn't surprised in the least.
Instead, as I looked at his face so eerily similar to Liam's, I felt momentarily dazed.
Once, it was this handsome face that deceived me, leading me to forgive Liam again and again.
Even though I knew something was amiss with him, I always chose to believe his explanations, swayed by his soulful eyes.
My memory suddenly flashed back to college.
Back then, Vivian and I were locked in a fierce academic rivalry.
She stole my research report with despicable tricks, snatching away my only opportunity of a research and study project.
In the corner behind the lecture hall, I broke down in tears.
That was when I met Liam.
He offered me a handkerchief and gently comforted me. Then he was there with me all the time until I bounced back.
Later, he started to pursue me.
He brought me breakfast every day, always reserved a seat next to him for me in the class, and took meticulous care of me when I was ill.
Under his insistence and care, I finally lowered my guard and started a relationship with him.
But I never imagined that the person who once brought warmth into my life would weave a web of lies over three years and even plan to ruin me at our wedding.
I snapped back to reality, my gaze turning cold once more.
Since being with him, I encountered numerous setbacks, like my research projects inexplicably hit obstacles, and my partners suddenly broke contracts.
Could the anonymous threatening letters my family had received also have something to do with him?
"You." I fixed my gaze on Lucas, "Were the troubles I had during these three years with Liam orchestrated by him?"
Lucas didn't answer, shifty-eyed.
No matter how I pressed him, he only shook his head.
As he was being so stubborn, I completely lost my patience and just let out a cold sneer. "If you refuse to talk, then I'll have to do something on you."
I stood up and dialed my subordinate. I said with a calm yet ruthless tone, "Take him to the basement and lock him in a cage. Make sure he doesn't escape."
Soon, two burly men in black suits entered.
They lifted Lucas, who was still kneeling. Lucas struggled to resist but was firmly held down.
Just then, my phone rang. It was from the police.
They informed me that Liam had falsified identification and was suspected of sexual harassment.
They decided to detain him for five days, with further investigation to follow.
After hanging up, I approached Lucas, who was being held by my men, with a cold smile.
"Since your brother will be detained for five days, you can reflect yourself along with him for five days as well." I paused before continuing. "In the basement, for these five days, there will be neither food nor water for you."
Lucas' face turned ashen, his eyes filled with terror.
He knew I wasn't joking.
I truly dared to be harsh with him.
After all, I never intended to hide my identity as the daughter of leaders of the Omni Alliance.
It was just that I hadn't reached the point of laying all my cards on the table before.
For the next five days, I never once went to the basement to check on Lucas.
No matter how he screamed or pleaded inside, I ignored him completely, as if he didn't exist.
Five days later, I leisurely walked to the basement and opened the door of the cage.
As soon as the door swung open, a flurry of hurried footsteps came from inside.
Lucas lunged from the darkness, his eyes red-rimmed.
His face was as pale as the wall, and his clothes were filthy and tattered.
Like a beast driven insane, he charged straight at me.
