Chapter 5

The next day, Rosalyn woke to find the news articles had been taken down.

Her father called. "Rosalyn, I heard about everything online. Is Saul dead? You've been through so much, and he does nothing? If your friend hadn't told me, and I hadn't pulled strings to get those negative stories removed, how long were you going to hide this from me? Put him on the phone. How could my precious daughter suffer such injustice under his roof?"

Rosalyn's nose stung with emotion.

As the only child of the Wright family, she had been showered with love her entire life. Yet, for one man, she gave up her status and family.

And that man betrayed her.

But now, she saw clearly. She wouldn't be foolish anymore.

Rosalyn swallowed her emotions. "Dad, it's okay now. Thank you. I'm a bit tired, so I'll talk to you later."

She hung up quickly.

She feared if she kept talking, she'd break down in tears.

To help Rosalyn return home sooner, her father used his connections to shorten the divorce process.

Soon, she could be free of Saul for good.

...

That evening, Saul stormed in and unleashed his anger on Rosalyn. "Rosalyn, you got a few harsh words online and ran crying to your parents like a child. Is that supposed to be cute? Your father, to defend you, blocked several major projects for my law firm overnight. Are you proud of yourself? Happy now?"

Rosalyn bit her lip hard.

She wasn't a lawyer, but half the firm's success came from the projects she had secured for Saul using her connections.

Now, her father was just trying to stand up for her after she was wronged.

Yet in Saul's mouth, it became her scheming.

Rosalyn looked up, defiant. "He's my dad. I was humiliated like that. What's wrong with him standing up for me? If you think cyberbullying is just a few harsh words, why couldn't you let Norene endure it?"

Saul's eyes darkened, her words hitting a nerve. He sneered. "If you care so much about family, then go back to them. Be their perfect little girl and stop suffering by my side."

Rosalyn knew he didn't love her, but after years of living together, his cruelty still stung.

She met his gaze, earnest. "Saul, don't you care about our time together at all? I loved you for seven years. Are you really not afraid I'll walk away for good?"

Saul smirked, dismissive. "Everyone in our circle knows you're my lovesick puppy. You won't leave. If you could actually walk away, I'd let you kick my head like a ball."

He was utterly confident.

Before leaving, Saul threw out one last cold remark. "Rosalyn, since you married me, you need to know your place. I don't want to see this happen again."

As his figure faded into the distance, the bitter smirk on Rosalyn's lips grew sharper.

At that moment, her phone pinged with a message from the registry office. "Ms. Wright, the divorce process is done. Please come tomorrow to collect your divorce certificate."
