Kylee was stunned, and her throat ached so much that tears ran down her face.
Seeing her in such distress, Kenney felt heartbroken.
He slowly reached out and wanted to touch her.
But he then remembered that Ruth was still in the room, so he stopped his hand.
Ruth quickly grabbed his hand and said, "Kenney, I was only upset because she framed me. I am your elder brother's wife and should be magnanimous, but..." She feigned grievance and turned her head to signal a servant to enter the room.
The servant avoided Kylee's gaze and kept her head down as she spoke.
She said that Kylee had threatened her earlier and forced her to fabricate the story that Ruth beat Kylee.
Kenney's pupils instantly contracted, and he clenched his fists.
Especially when he saw Ruth's red eyes, he immediately believed the servant's words.
He felt foolishly remorseful and took care of Kylee all night.
"Kylee, how could you resort to such tricks?" he said through gritted teeth.
Kylee was in too much pain to speak. She only shook her head mechanically.
She tried to get close to him and explain herself to him, but Kenney shoved her away. "Get away. Your scheming ways disgust me."
Ruth added fuel to the fire. "Kenney, don't be like this. I'm afraid she will hold a grudge against me again... Kenney, I'd better move out of the villa. I moved in out of kindness to see her, but she said I was unnecessary. I was so angry that I couldn't help but beat her, and she smugly told me to watch who you'd side with..."
Kylee fell to the floor and desperately wanted to deny the accusations, but Kenney grabbed her chin tightly.
He stared at her, and his knuckles turned pale.
He seemed to intend to crush her bones.
"Kylee, I won't tolerate any harm against Ruth. I told you about that before." He clenched his fist and said, "Why did you insist on challenging me?"
It was the first time she had seen him lose control.
After a couple of futile struggles, Kylee gave up.
She asked with a hoarse voice, "Why don't you trust me?" Actually, she already knew the answer in her mind.
It was because Kenney never loved her.
Seeing Kylee was desperate, Kenney had a strange discomfort inside him.
Kenney abruptly released her and then called for the bodyguards to take her away. "Lock her in the guest room. She's not allowed to eat anything until I say so."
The bodyguards dragged her away. Kylee was too weak to resist.
As the needle was pulled from the back of her hand, blood oozed out.
The pain made her gasp sharply.
She was then lifted and thrown into a car. Before losing consciousness, she heard the engine start.
Kylee felt as if she had slept for ages.
In her dream, there was Kenney.
He stood by a window in a white shirt, idly flipping through a book.
A gentle breeze came through, and the sunlight seemed to bathe him.
He occasionally looked up, and when he saw Kylee, he gave a polite smile.
He was so charming.
Kylee couldn't control her feelings.
It was the first time that she had seen Kenney and the first time that she realized her heart could race so fast.
She reached out to touch him. "Kenney..."
But he vanished before her eyes, taking the light with him.
She was panicked. "Kenney, don't leave me..."
Her heart pounded wildly and jolted her awake.
She found herself in the guest room, enveloped in darkness. There was only a sliver of light by the door.
Instinctively, Kylee looked over and met Kenney's dark eyes.
He leaned against the doorframe, and his collar was slightly askew.
Kylee clenched the hem of her clothes and was unsure if he had heard her words or not a moment ago.
A silence hung in the air.
Suddenly, Kenney stepped forward and slowly walked to her.
Kylee noticed he was holding a bowl of soup. "Kylee, are you still feeling unwell? Have some soup."
