The next morning, everyone was having breakfast. Lottie had just had her jam toast when her cheeks started turning red.
Eileen was startled. "Lottie, what's wrong?"
Lottie began scratching her face incessantly. "Mom, it itches. It itches so badly."
Her face instantly swelled up.
"Are there almonds in the jam?" Eileen held onto Lottie and asked with a pale face, "How could this be? I clearly told the cook not to use anything with almonds."
Just then, Greg happened to walk by. Seeing the situation, he immediately went to get some allergy medication.
"Take the medicine now to suppress it. Is she also allergic to almonds?" Surprise flashed in Greg's eyes. He, too, was severely allergic to almonds. "I'll take her to the hospital."
Seeing Lottie seriously allergic, Greg picked her up and rushed out the door.
"Greg, I... I don't feel well either." Rena suddenly collapsed weakly to the floor.
"Rena!" Greg released Lottie from his arms and rushed to Rena. "What's wrong? How do you feel?"
Rena weakly pointed to the dining table. "I just had some salad, and it seems like there is mango in it... I'm allergic to mango, Greg. I feel terrible."
Without hesitation, Greg held Rena in his arms. "Freddy, drive the car. We are heading to the hospital!"
"Daddy!" Lottie reached out her hand with grievance.
But Greg didn't even look back.
The car sped away.
Eileen hurriedly asked the butler, "Is there another car?"
"I'm sorry, but all other cars in the garage were sent for maintenance today," the butler said awkwardly. "The one Mr. Burton used is the only one available today."
Greg's villa was in a remote area, and it would take at least an hour to call a taxi.
Lottie's allergy worsened, and her face swelled terribly. Her breathing even became difficult.
"Lottie, hang in there!" Eileen's tears streamed down as she asked the butler and servants to take turns carrying Lottie and running towards the exit of the residential area.
They sprinted under the scorching sun.
Ten minutes later, Lottie's condition had deteriorated further, and her lips turned a worrying shade of blue.
"Mom... I feel awful..." Lottie lay weakly in Eileen's arms.
Eileen was nearly hysterical.
She hated herself.
She hated herself for holding onto any hope for Greg and agreeing to stay in the Bexwell and save him.
If anything happened to Lottie, it would be useless to save her father.
Half an hour later, Greg heard the doctor say Rena was fine at the hospital.
Then he remembered that there were no other cars at home.
He was about to call for another car when he saw Eileen.
Greg stepped forward and asked, "How's Lottie?"
Eileen's eyes were filled with hatred as she coldly replied, "Lottie was lucky enough to encounter someone driving by."
Greg was displeased with her sarcastic tone. "Both she and Rena were allergic at the same time. I didn't mean it."
Eileen retorted, "You are right. Your first choice is always Rena."
The familiar complaint made Greg feel that the woman in front of him was like Eileen. "Do you know Eileen..."
"It was she who deliberately handed me the salad with mango juice." Rena walked out and pointed at Eileen.
Without asking for any explanation, Greg grabbed Eileen by the throat.
"Irene, I warned you not to play tricks. Did you try to kill Rena?"
Eileen's throat was constricted, and her face started swelling as she looked into his eyes. They were filled with undisguised murderous intent, and she felt a chill.
It was such a clumsy lie, but Greg believed it.
Rena pretended to be tolerant. "Greg, don't hurt her. Maybe she was annoyed because you didn't attend the family sports due to me."
Greg forcefully released Eileen, and the latter plummeted to the floor. "You would risk Rena's life over such a trivial matter. I can't keep you here anymore."
He took out his phone and called Kole. "Arrange the surgery for tomorrow."
"Just as I intended! I don't want Lottie to stay near you anymore."
Eileen got up and turned back to the ward.
She saw Lottie still lying on the bed and was worried that she couldn't take care of Lottie after she donated blood.
Eileen went to Rena's ward and hoped to persuade Greg to postpone the surgery for a few days until Lottie recovered.
But at the door, she overheard Rena asking, "Greg, will you be in danger during tomorrow's surgery?"
"No, as long as there's enough blood supply. The blood donor is actually at greater risk than I am. The doctor said it might require donating a large amount of blood, which poses significant risks. If she had a weak constitution, she would go into shock and die."
Eileen felt a heavy weight in her heart upon hearing that.
Greg had never mentioned the high risk of donating blood.
Of course, if he had told her about it, she might have refused to do so.
So she couldn't let anything happen to her.
If anything happened to her, no one would take care of Lottie. Greg only had eyes for Rena and was utterly unreliable.
She had to take Lottie and escape immediately.
