Chapter 6

After returning home, Kenia retrieved the cardboard box from under her bed and carefully counted its contents.

Crafts they made together during their outings, matching mugs and t-shirts they bought when they were dating, all the necklaces and bracelets Hobson had given her...

She carried the box to the yard, and the two people who had just returned looked at her with puzzled expressions.

Hobson glanced at the box and suddenly realized something, quickly speaking up, "Kenia, what are you doing?"

She didn't spare him a glance, pulling a lighter from her pocket and igniting the items.

Hobson rushed forward, trying to salvage the sketchbook from the flames, but she watched him quietly, unmoved.

Everything in the box turned to ashes, and Hobson stared at her in disbelief.

"You said that sketchbook was the most important thing in your life, and you burned it!"

Kenia looked at the man who seemed somewhat out of control and managed a smile.

"A bunch of useless things, what's the point of keeping them?"

She cast one last look at the pile of ashes before turning away.

It wasn't the objects she burned, but the memories they once shared.

Late at night, Hobson unexpectedly knocked on her door and walked in.

He placed a jewelry box on her desk.

"I shouldn't have pushed you today. I acted impulsively. But you shouldn't have pushed her. She's pregnant. As an apology for my rashness today, I bought the bracelet from the designer you said you liked."

Kenia shoved the jewelry box back into his hands.

"I stopped liking that designer a long time ago. Take it back."

His movements halted, and he slowly spoke, "Kenia, I'm sorry."

She burst into laughter, mocking him, "Hobson, do you need me to recommend a neurologist? You're really strange. If there was an apology to be made, it should have happened a long time ago."

Kenia pushed him out, and Hobson lingered outside her door for a long time.

It wasn't until Eliana called him that he snapped back.

His chest ached, feeling as though he was losing something.

The next day at work, Kenia received a message from Hobson.

"Tomorrow, come with me to Wrestead. Eliana says there's a church known for granting wishes. Join us."

Just then, the Chief Medical Officer entered her office.

"Kenia, there are only ten days left before you head to Otresh. Are you prepared?"

"I'd like to take my annual leave."

"Alright, it's approved."

After the Chief Medical Officer left, she took a while before picking up her phone to reply. "I understand."

Just treat it as one last trip with him before she died.

On the other end of the phone, Hobson found it strange. The woman agreed so readily, he felt Kenia had changed, but he couldn't explain how.

On the private jet, Hobson thoughtfully covered Eliana with a blanket and fed her, acting as a caring partner, though not to his actual wife.
