Colby held the child tightly, her fingers curling involuntarily. She looked up at him calmly and asked, "What did you eat? Your lips are red."
With that, she turned and went inside.
Ruben frowned and quickly returned to the ward, grabbing Lesly by the waist and coldly admonishing, "Next time you come over, don't wear perfume, makeup, or lipstick. Colby just gave birth. If she notices, she'll be upset."
Having said this, Ruben hurriedly left and brought a plate of fruit to Colby's ward.
In the center was a small dish containing vibrant red dragon fruit.
Ruben explained, "You have a picky palate, so I tasted the fruit that the housekeeper brought over. The color of the dragon fruit must have rubbed off my lips."
Colby looked at his sincere demeanor and felt both amused and bittersweet. She glanced at the baby in the crib and asked slowly, "Ruben, do you think she looks more like you or me?"
Gently pinching the baby's tiny hands and feet, Ruben smiled fondly and said, "She's so beautiful. Of course, she resembles you. We'll let her become the happiest princess in the world, shall we? And you will be the mother of the happiest princess."
Ruben, as always, effortlessly spoke sweet words. In the past, Colby would blush and wrap her arms around his neck, kissing his chin. But now, she remained cold, merely gazing at the little one in the crib, distractedly replying, "Is that so?"
Ruben couldn't notice that the baby before him wasn't his biological daughter.
When Colby was discharged and returned to their house. She opened the door to find Lesly, dressed in a lace camisole, cleaning the floor on her hands and knees. Upon realizing someone had returned, Lesly blushed and screamed, covering her chest and running back.
However, the floor was wet, and she fell with a splash, her skirt flipping up to reveal she wasn't wearing anything underneath.
Colby watched her theatrics coldly and saw Ruben quickly follow Lesly, forcefully pushing open the door to the room.
Moments later, the room echoed with suppressed sobs from Lesly and Ruben's moans. Colby glanced indifferently at the closed door, then returned to her and Ruben's bedroom to take stock of the gifts Ruben had given her over the years.
The wall was filled with gifts, each marked with its occasion. The coming-of-age gift, the gift she received after getting her driver's license, the first cake, the gift of watching the sunrise together for the first time. Each item recorded Ruben's love for her.
She clenched her hand, using the pain to remind herself that these were no longer gifts but funds to secure her and her daughter's future. She picked up her phone, taking pictures and sending them out, "Appraise these separately. Let's see how much they can sell for."
When Ruben came in, he saw Colby staring blankly at the wall of gifts, feeling a deeper sense of guilt. How could he not know how much he loved Colby? Each gift was something he had scoured the world to find.
He approached and embraced her, speaking softly, "Lesly is quite adept at taking care of people. That's why I called her to look after you. Don't feel bad for her, just order her around as you please."
Colby sneered inwardly. She doubted she could order Lesly.
True to form, on the first day, Lesly made half-cooked fish soup for her.
On the second day, she brewed nutritional food simmered for two days.
Colby didn't endure her. On the first day, she slapped Lesly once, and on the second day, twice.
Lesly pretended to be meek, enduring it, and when Ruben returned in the evening, she showed her swollen face in front of him, occasionally glancing at Colby.
Ruben gave her a cold look, then took Colby's hand, gently massaging it, "When your hand hurts, my heart aches. If she upsets you, I'll deal with her."
Upon hearing this, Lesly instantly blushed.
Colby felt nauseated but managed to say the words she had prepared long ago, "Let her take care of the baby. I find her presence quite bothersome."
With that, she turned to leave, and behind her, Ruben's stern reprimand rang out. "Lesly, Colby is my wife. Many people want to take care of her. If you can't do it properly, you can leave anytime."
Lesly bit her lip, "Ruben, those servants are watching us. Can we go to the room? You can punish me however you want."
Ruben snorted and strode towards Lesly's room.
As the door closed, Colby emerged from her room.
Passing by, she heard Lesly's moans and Ruben's harsh reproach, "Will you dare to upset Colby again? Oh..."
Colby's pace quickened as she left the house.
