Colby remained silent. By the time she was taken to the hospital, Ruben was already waiting anxiously, while Lesly stood not far off, gazing at him with infatuation.
Brenda approached Lesly with a look of disdain and slapped her hard. Her hand was adorned with a heavy ring, which only intensified the force as it landed on Lesly's face. After the slap, she remarked coldly, "She is Ruben's wife and a member of our Gibson family. Is she someone you can mess with?"
She then turned to Ruben, reprimanding him sharply, "Ruben, how dare you! The men of the Gibson family are all the same, all shameless!"
Ruben's face flushed with embarrassment at the scolding, turning red and then pale. He glanced at Colby, who lay half-conscious on the hospital bed, her face was pale, and he felt so distressed that his eyes turned red. He cupped her face and tenderly kissed her forehead, the corners of her lips, and the tip of her nose, whispering, "I'm sorry, honey. You've been through so much. I love you."
Lesly watched with resentment, stepping forward to tug at Ruben's coat, but he pushed her away without hesitation, "Go back for now. I'll come find you in a few days."
In the following days, Ruben postponed all his work commitments to stay by Colby's side. His devotion touched all the nurses and moved countless online followers, but Colby remained unmoved.
Her expression stayed cold, except when she was with her daughter, she would smile.
Ruben was treated coldly for a few days and finally lost his patience. "Colby, you know better than anyone how much I love you. Lesly is just a tool for me to vent my desires. You were pregnant, and it was hard for you, so I didn't want to hurt you. She came to me willingly, asking for nothing in return. It was a win-win for me."
Colby felt sick, almost losing the meal she had just swallowed.
Ruben continued, "Colby, it's common for men to stray. Among all the men in our family, I'm the most faithful. In three years of marriage, I've only been with one other woman. I promise you, this will be the last month. On the day you recover, I'll ensure Lesly is out of our lives."
Unable to hold back any longer, Colby hurled everything within reach at Ruben, but he patiently comforted her while retreating, "Don't be angry, sweetheart. It pains me to see you like this."
As the door to the ward closed, Colby's tears fell onto the sheets. She regretted loving Ruben and marrying him.
Feeling suffocated, Colby decided to go for a walk. As she passed the empty ward next door, she saw Lesly caught in a compromising position with Ruben, who kissed her without hesitation. The buttons on Lesly's long coat popped off, revealing the skin underneath, igniting Ruben's desire. He muttered something crude before his hands wandered further.
Lesly suddenly opened her eyes and met Colby's gaze as she peeked in.
Her eyes were full of provocation, and she even made ambiguous sounds on purpose. But Colby simply watched her quietly, then left.
Ten minutes later, at the hospital's side entrance, Colby carried her daughter into an inconspicuous van. Inside the car, a man was also holding a child in his arms.
The man asked in a serious tone, "Are you sure about this?"
Colby didn't respond, but exchanged the child she held with the man, her voice cold, "My daughter stays with me. No one can take her away. Take care of her for me. We'll meet at the airport in a month."
With that, Colby held the child tightly and got out of the van.
As the elevator door opened, she saw Ruben, who looked worried, "Where did you go just now?"
