I was already exhausted from walking in the forest for days without eating properly or having enough rest. How and where would I get the energy to run after him?
"No one asked you to have short legs! Keep up or be left behind!" He yelled back.
Oh, dear moon goddess! I felt like strangling him for not only calling me short, but for making me run after him.
"Funny how you are calling my legs short when you are not so tall yourself,"
"Yeah, yeah, keep giving yourself hope that we are the same height, shorty," but even as he said this, he slowed down his movement, and I was able to catch up with him in a few seconds.
I said nothing else in response, and he too did not say a word. We kept on walking in silence while I continued to glance around my environment, so I was able to take note of when we left the marketplace and entered a narrow road.
I turned to him, "Where are we going?"
"My house," he said in a way of explanation.
I was surprised, and it showed on my face with the way my brows rose, "Your house?"
"Yes, dummy, my house. Where did you think I was taking you to?"
Okay, good question. He had me there. I left the woods without my horse and followed a total stranger without even thinking twice. I had no idea who he was or where he was taking me too. Some fool I was.
This boy could kill me! I have heard before that humans sell body parts - even if I don't know what they used it for - what if he were one of those people?
Even with everything I was thinking, I kept on walking down the narrow road with him. How stupid was that? If you ask me, I don't know. I was just going with my gut.
I had no family, and the only friend I had, Joel, must think I am dead right now. No one would cry for me, no one would know a human killed me. I've been through the worst in the hands of the people who were supposed to be my family already, so what do I have to lose if I die now? At least I won't be that useless in death, Troy would make money off selling my body part!
Stop! I needed to stop thinking like this.
We kept walking for a long time until we came to a quiet street with different houses. The houses did not in any way look local. The houses looked like one only rich people lived in.
"We are close to my house," he said after the long silence that's been reigning between us.
"You live here?"
"Obviously,"
Was that a sarcastic note I heard? Well, I could not blame him. He already made it clear that we were close to his house, I just had to ask that again like a stupid fellow.
"You don't have to sound so sarcastic and rude about it," I told him with an eyes roll.
"I think your kinds are dense." he snickered.
Dear moon goddess, help me control my temper, so I don't kill this boy. I wanted to wrap my hands around his neck and strangle him, but I knew that this was not the forest. I could be arrested for that! Killing someone was an offense both in the werewolf and human world... well, except for when it was self-defense but then, he had not attacked me physically. He should thank whichever god he serves.
I was about to ask him which house was his again when we were close to the end of the street, not caring if he was going to give a sarcastic response that would make me want to gut him when he turned and entered an open compound. Something flashed in my mind and I grabbed him just as we both got to the main door of the house, and he was about to open it.
"What?" He asked me, as he looked down at me with his brows almost touching his forehead.
"Do you live alone or with your family?" He looked around my age so, definitely, he would be living with us family.
"Why?" He asked me, his eyes dancing with amusement.
"Because!" I snapped, not liking the fact that he found my question funny. "How would they react to you bringing a random girl with a strange color of hair home? I'm sure they would ask more questions than those guards at the city's gate," why was my heart beating fast as I waited for a response from him?
He burst into loud laughter. Yeah, I asked a very serious question and all I got in response was the sound of his laughter. He actually found this whole thing funny?
"So you know that you are a strange girl with white hair?" He asked amidst his laughter.
"Shut up! The more we talk, the more I regret not using my dagger to send you to your early grave. Now, will you answer my question?"
He must have noticed that I was fuming because he stopped laughing, even if he found it hard to control his smile.
"I live alone, no need to worry yourself,"
"You live alone?" This was another surprise.
"What? You don't believe me?"
"Of course, I don't!" I told him, "How can you live alone when you are not much older than I am?" This was shocking. Was this how humans were?
Until you find your mate, and you have a good job, you could not live alone in the werewolf world.
"You think I am around your age?"
"Yes, of course! You look scrawny like a nineteen year old," and I was not lying! He looked exactly my age or a year or two older than I was.
"Girl, I am twenty-five,"
My jaw dropped to the floor. My jaw nearly dropped to the ground.
