Chapter 9 Garment of Confusion

Sophie's Point of View.

"Do you think I am blind? Is not it clear that you are attempting to flee?

I will have to scream if you do not speak now." Helena threatened me.

The garment of confusion soaked me.

Helena placed me in a challenging circumstance.

Given that she had never been fond of me, it would be challenging to have faith in her to support me.

How can I tell Helena that I did not want to be Nathan's mate, and that is why I wanted to get away from the pack?

"Can I confide my secret in you?

Will you swear not to tell on me?" I questioned her.

I did not realize how foolish I had just sounded until a few seconds later.

Relying on Helena is akin to putting a child in a wolf's care.

Speaking to Helena in the first place was a huge mistake, and I knew I should have fled the moment I laid eyes on her.

"Sure, you can. I will protect your secret." Helena smiled and gave me her assurance.

"Come nearer," I said.

I didn't want our conversation to be overheard.

"I wish to run away. I would prefer not to be Nathan's Luna." I muttered to Helena.

"Your statement just astounded me. What happens if you are caught?"

She became very anxious.

"And who is going to inform them?

You? Remember that you just made a commitment. Do not act like a fool!" Helena was the target of my rage.

I felt like I was controlling Helena for the first time in my pitiful life. It took me almost a decade to see that Helena might still be vulnerable.

I wished it would stay that way.

That was something I wanted to see more of. Unfortunately, I am already departing.

When I am around her, I always feel inferior. Despite her diminutive size, her aura and presence terrified me to no end.

"Can I leave now? The amount of time I spend talking to you is excessive. I reminded Helena.

. I looked around and saw that there were no guards. I was surprised that nobody had come to find me. Do people really think I am that unimportant?

"Do you have any money on you?"

She asked.

"What are you saying?"

A sudden flush came over my face.

I believed that I was no longer bound by Helena's chains. I was unaware of the numerous tricks she had up her sleeve.

"Do you really believe I would allow you to go in that manner? I am only acting this way because I am upset that Derek chose you over me. I had the impression that I would be the one selected." Helena said.

I finally understood why she was assisting me. I was on the verge of asking her because the Helena I know would prefer a carnage than to witness my advancement.

After reaching into my bag, I produced a bundle of money that I had been accumulating for years.

My late father's advice was a contributing factor. Like I was aware that this day would eventually arrive.

Moving to a new city and beginning a new chapter are my plans. However, the money was insufficient to keep me going indefinitely. For my own survival, I also plan to land a decent job.

I was about to divide the money when Helena grabbed the entire bundle. Every effort to recover the funds was unsuccessful.

She screamed at me, "Run before I reveal your secret."

I was helpless against her strategies. I wanted to stay and reclaim what she had stolen from me.

I thought about getting caught.

I've come too far just to bottle everything up.

At last, I gave up on Helena.

This is most likely the last time I will see her.

Just as I was about to flee, Helena cried out, "Help! Sophie's taking off.

Get here before she runs away.

I realized how foolish it was to confide my secret to Helena. She played me. I was blind to see how cunning she was.

I noticed Lottana's soldiers following me like a wolf pursuing its prey.

I shifted to my heels and sprinted as quickly as my legs would allow.

I ran off into the woods and hid there. To confuse the soldiers, I tossed my bag somewhere else.

I had my mouth shut and was having trouble breathing. My heart was beating more rapidly.

There were more than ten soldiers, I discovered after counting them.

I had no advanced weaponry, but they did. While I had no inner wolves, some of them did.

Oh, how unfortunate! It will not be long before I am caught.

As I hid, I berated Helena for offering me such a low price. I also held myself responsible for thinking she would ever support me.

I started thinking about Annabelle.

I was afraid that Helena might have told Nathan about her helping me get away.

Then I remembered that nobody had seen Annabelle and me together.

As soon as I heard footsteps approaching me, I closed my eyes.

In my heart, I prayed for the moon goddess to save me.

"If you wish to survive, come out now." One of the soldiers shot into the air and threatened me.

My heart was torn to pieces.

I made the decision to give myself up.

"Please do not fire."

I put my hands over my head and sprinted out of my hiding place.

"Here you are," one of the soldiers said, coming up to me and giving me a face punch.

I collapsed to the floor and went unconscious. I had a hazy vision.

I could not recall anything else after that.

I awoke moments later and saw a massive figure standing in front of me.

"Where exactly am I?"

I opened my eyes slowly to see Nathan standing in front of me. I stood up and attempted to flee once more. I could not get past the heavy soldiers that surrounded me.

They shoved me to the floor.

I sobbed uncontrollably and lost my balance on Nathan's legs.

"Welcome back from the land of the dead," Nathan said, lifting me up before slapping my chin thunderously and sending me sprawling to the ground.

I felt miserable, hopeless, and powerless. There was no way of escaping.

Nathan strode over to me and seized my neck like a warlock. His blunt claws almost killed me by choking me and limiting my airflow.

I hoped that death would arrive and take me away. It would be better than putting up with Nathan's pain.

Nathan's torture was undoubtedly going to kill me.

"Who helped you get away?"

He screamed at me.

"Start talking before I decapitate you and feed your remains to the vultures."

Helena and Annabelle were standing next to each other. I felt little chills run down my back.

All I could think about was moving forward and killing Helena with a knife for betraying me.

Anna already had tears in her eyes, and they were threatening to spill out.

I could not bring myself to point the finger at her.

I got caught, and it was not her fault. She did everything she could to make sure I got out safely.

I trusted Helena, which ruined her efforts. I now feel bad about what I did.

"Avoid having me say it again.

Who assisted your escape?" Nathan erupted.

He had such a fierce voice.

The sound of the earth collapsing reached me.

"Take my life if you want to."

I spit in his face, "I do not care about you."

A soldier drew a dagger and seized me by the neck.

With an uplifted arm, Nathan stopped him before he could kill me. "Don't Her guts appeal to me. Take her to my chamber right now."

I was hauled like a piece of shit to Nathan's quarters and imprisoned like a prisoner.

I had lost the ability to scream.

My voice and strength went away.

I was awaiting Nathan's arrival so he could complete the unsavoury task he had begun on me. He didn't.

All of a sudden, I heard someone calling to me through the window. I was too weak to guess who that was, but it sounded familiar.

I hobbled slowly over to the window area, where Annabelle was drenched in tears.

She comforted me by holding my hands. "I did everything I could to protect you from Helena, but I was afraid she would tell Lottana about me."

I assured Annabelle that I would be alright. I knew in my heart that I was almost done.

Outside, I could hear keys squeaking. There was an attempt to open the door.

"Go!" I made Annabelle aware.

"No, I would prefer to remain with you here." Annabelle said.

"Are you insane?

He is after me, not you." I warned Annabelle.

She grudgingly consented to flee after I yelled at her.

Annabelle escaped a few seconds before Nathan entered.

"With whom were you conversing?" He asked me. I remained silent and peered sideways.

"Nobody."

I lied. I had trembling lips.

"Ah, I see!" His head nodded, and he gave a cheeky laugh.

That was his final statement before racing outside like a wolf pursuing him.

Annabelle getting caught was something I hoped would not happen. Watching her be put to death like a typical thief is something I cannot bear.
