Lindsey POV

The older I get, I realize it's best to let someone go, because loving is hard, just like the way I forgot about Miguel, my first crush. I'd certainly forget about Gary, my husband.

I had given up my family and become his housewife just for the sake of love. I never got in return.

As long as he was happy, I was willing to die for him. Certainly because I thought he'd be the one to save me from my nightmares.

What I got in return was a divorce claim and his last words:

"Even though you're the last woman on earth, I'd never choose you."

I went back to my home to prove to Gary and his family that I wasn't the pauper I tend to be.

I was the daughter of the most influential family in the city, and I'd make them pay.

However, it breaks me that I sacrificed my precious years for him.

That's why I found myself at a bar, drowning in my misery and getting lost in my thoughts.

"Why's a pretty lady drinking all by herself in a bar?" A voice interrupted, and, feeling so heavy, I raised my eyes to meet him.

It felt like an illusion as this stranger was close to me, but that wasn't the shock. I was literally staring at my first crush, Miguel.

I ignored him, not wanting my heart to melt in his presence. If he was this close years ago, I would have ended up with him.

"It kills burying your problems to yourself," he muttered, and then ordered two bottles of martini, one of which he handed to me.

"Why are you here?" I questioned, staring into his eyes and feeling a bit tipsy.

"Heartbreak," he muses, and I suddenly giggle. Miguel doesn't get heartbroken; he is the opposite. He pressured me to tell him about my worries, and it took a lot of contemplation to open up because he was acting as though we were close or something.

His doleful eyes at me when he gulped that martini got me jinxed. We'd never meet again, and so there was no harm in opening up about my relationship.

When he had seen the burn on my skin, the anger and grief in his eyes felt as though he'd murdered Gary.

However, I tried hard to bury that old feeling because I don't trust men anymore.

"That fool doesn't deserve you," he mutters, and I roll my eyes, not quite interested in what he was saying.

"Hey, do you want me to kill him for you?" he added, and I only chuckled, but his gaze was seriously on me.

"I'm waiting for your response... Lindsey, anything you want me to do, I'd do it."

Shit! He knows my name. Miguel was always someone who was hard to see in person and barely noticed me back then.

I was lost in his gaze, and I can't really recall what happened last night except the memory of us kissing.

I just hope it ends there. Right now, I'm standing at my family's mansion. It's been five years, and I was here to become the heiress of the family business. With that power, I can make my enemies weep.

It's been five years away from home, and my return will cause some problems.

I slowly raised my gaze and found my father on the balcony, his eyes peering at me.

"The prodigal daughter returns," his voice mutters, and I scoffed unbelievably.

His intense gaze sent a cold running down my spine.

He was a tough man who never saw through my pains all the years I'd spent in this house.

"Welcome back, Lindsey," one of the maids whispered, distracting me from my father, and I lowered my gaze at her.

My heart felt weak as the servants welcomed me warmly, but I wore no smile. I ignored them and walked inside.

Not everyone wanted me back. My competitive stepbrothers, but no one terrifies me as much as Damian, the second child, who is my nightmare.

I walked through the hallway, scrutinizing every path I took until I got to my designated room.

This house had so many tragic memories attached to it and even if it were a beautiful palace, in my heart, it will always remain the devil's lair.

I shuddered when he was the first I saw a distance from my room.

He was the reason I ran away from home in the first place.

Damian gave me a dirty smile, his eyes lurching at me, and I felt my breath cease.

I trembled where I stood as fear engulfed me.

"Hey love!" he exclaimed, and I sulked my breath.

I couldn't move as my body suddenly ached. My heartfelt heaven. I was vibrating.

Damian had his hands in his pockets as he catwalked closer to me. My head lowered at his feet.

All it took him was a step, and he was encroaching on my personal space.

He trapped the space between us, banging my back on my door.

His broad chest pinned against my breast. My lips part slightly, as if I feared for my life.

He kept steady eye contact with raised brows, his feet pointed inwards as he placed his hand in the position of his heart.

We were both staring intensively, and I could sense bewilderment in his eyes.

A sided smile escaped his lips as I twisted my hand into claws. I couldn't even defend myself as I was melting slowly just as he took my breath away.

He leaned his lips to my ear; his fingers brushed my cheek as I could feel his breath all over my face.

I suck in my breath, feeling so hot, and my body weakens.

"Seems my little puppet came back," he whispered, and I stuttered backward, but the door trapped me with him.

He chuckled evilly at me while licking his lower lips. The best way to avoid him was to shun him, but that seemed impossible.

I tried to regain my breath, intending to push him away, but he held my wrist and pulled me closer to himself.

His eyes darken at me as passion and lust fill him up. I froze, leaning to the door as we exchanged breath.

"I miss you, bitch."

Before I could wrench myself out of his grip, he had scooped me in his hands, and my heart fluttered.

I was void of thoughts as he squeezed me so hard in his arms I could feel my bones crack.

I could feel his heartbeat, as fast as mine. My body itches as my breath gasps in my throat.

I struggled out of his grip, almost weeping. Flashes of horrible memories flooded my head.

He tried to kiss me, but I shoved my face away. Fear flushes through me as his hotness simmers through my dress.

He makes me nervous, and his hand kneads my butt. I hated myself for remaining in that position.

I could hear his grin, like I was enjoying it, and then I felt his lips planting kisses on my neck.

"I know you miss me too, Lindsey; you want me. That's why you're back," he claims in a seductive tone.
