CHAPTER 8: Sisters reunion.
Sarah had never ever thought of crossing paths with Veronica or Estelle again. Those two had hurt her alot in the past that she did not want to ever cross paths with them again.
She had suspected that Veronica might still be with Edward, but she didn't care enough to verify if that they were. But seeing her here right now, she didn't have to -she was convinced that they might be together.
Well, good for them. They were both horrible people, and they deserved each other.
Veronica's eyes darted from Sarah to Edward, then back to Sarah, her expression twisted with barely concealed rage. She could not believe her eyes. She had heard that Edward's company was partnering with another foreign company, and being the nosy, and insecure girlfriend that she was–if she could still call herself that, because Edward did not seem to be interested in her anymore for a long time.
Veronica had decided to find out who the lady representative of the other company was, especially since she had heard from people that worked at Edward's company that she was very beautiful.
She wanted to see her for herself, especially now that Edward was now going to work closely with her. She wanted to find out if she was in competition with her or not. And probably warn her off her man, but she was shocked to see her half sister, Sarah.
"You?" she spat. "You're the woman Edward's partnering with?" She asked with a shocked expression.
"Well, hello to you too." Sarah tilted her head, an amused smile on her lips as she feigned mild surprise. Didn't you know? I thought you'd be keeping up with your boyfriend's business ventures."
Veronica's nostrils flared at Sarah's calm and detached tone. She was so different from the timid and naive who always used to tremble at the sound of her voice.
The woman standing in front of her was nothing like the Sarah she remembered. She was bold, confident, independent, stylishly dressed in expensive looking clothes, and she was very attractive and beautiful.
Veronica remembered that she had been in Edward's arm. She was back for a little while, and she was already going after Edward. She turned to Edward who had been watching the reunion between sisters coolly.
"Edward, why was she in your arms?" she demanded, with narrowed eyes.
Edward looked utterly indifferent. "I don't answer to you, Veronica. Besides, what the hell are you doing here? You don't work here." he spat in a voice that was tight with barely concealed irritation.
Sarah raised a brow. Trouble in paradise? She could tell that there was a problem between the two, especially with how uncomfortable, and almost embarrassed Veronica looked at how he replied to her in her presence.
Sarah smiled sweetly. "I hurt my ankle, and Mr Huxley was kind enough to help me," she replied coolly.
Veronica's eyes flashed, and narrowed suspiciously. "And that required carrying you in his arms?"
Edward's gaze flickered to Sarah before he smirked slightly. "It was efficient."
Veronica's mouth opened, but no words came out. She felt so angry, but she could do nothing at the moment.
Sarah took the opportunity to brush past her, moving toward her desk. "I really have to break up the emotional family reunion, but you're in my office, Veronica. I'm a very busy woman, and I have a lot to do. If you have personal business with Edward, take it elsewhere."
Veronica's face turned red. She turned around to face Sarah who was leaning beside her desk.
"I was just checking out the office of the only woman among the top executives of this new merger. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was you."
Sarah gave her a stiff brief smile. "I guess you were not expecting to see me right?"
Veronica opened her mouth to speak, but Sarah was quick to cut her off. "And now that you've satisfied your curiosity, you can leave. Like I said earlier, I have a lot to do."
Veronica clenched her fists. She hated this new Sarah a lot, but she was not going to back down from her. "Are you coming to the launch party?"
Sarah frowned. "What party?" She turned to Edward.
Edward shrugged, shoving his hands in his pockets. "The company is throwing a launch party to celebrate the partnership between the two companies."
Sarah's forehead crumpled. "Why was I not informed?"
"I would have informed you, had it not been for the interruption," he added the last part with a glance at Veronica, who pursed her lips.
Sarah nodded. "Of course. I would be there. It's a work event, and I have to represent Soar Aviation."
Veronica was angry. She had merely asked as a formality, but also because she wanted to find out if she was coming. The truth is that she did not want Sarah there. She did not want this new Sarah around Edward, or herself.
Veronica forced a smile. "Are you bringing a date?"
Edward, who had been casually observing, suddenly straightened up. He was suddenly interested to hear what she had to say. He wanted to know if she had someone in her life.
Sarah smiled-a smile that wasn't warm at all. She knew what Veronica was doing. She was trying to find out if she was going to be competition for her, and also find out if she would have an opportunity to poke a veiled insult at her.
But she didn't need to worry, because Edward was all hers, and as for the other part, she was in for a surprise because she was no longer the old Sarah.
"I don't need a man to validate me, Veronica. Unlike some people."
Edward was surprised and confused at her reply. She did not answer the question directly. But he found himself more intrigued by her.
Veronica's eyes flared with anger, but she recovered quickly. "So I take it that you do not?" She pushed further.
Sarah smiled. "I don't have a date. My plus one is currently not in the country, so I'll be coming alone."
Edward's brows snapped in a frown. "You're seeing someone," the words tumbled out of his lips before he knew it.
Both women immediately turned to him. Veronica's face was dark with rage, while Sarah had an amused smirk tugging on her lips.
"It seems you both are awfully interested in my personal life. Anyways, I'm not seeing anyone, Mr Huxley."
A brief silence stretched in the room as they all dwelled on their thoughts.
Sarah cleared her throat. "Alright. I think I'll go to work now."
With an unreadable expression on his face, Edward slightly nodded, before he walked out of the office. Veronica turned and walked towards the door, and paused with her hand over the handle.
"Welcome back, Sarah. See you at the party."
Sarah knew that the smile on her face was fake, and knew that Veronica was very furious that she was back.
With a last glance at Sarah, Veronica walked out, slamming the softly behind her.
Sarah stared at the closed door, wondering what Veronica was going to get up to at the launch, because she knew that she had just declared war.
