Chapter 5 Awake

CHAPTER 5

EMMA'S POV

"What's in it for me?" I say, folding my arms as I lean by the wall.

Douglas scoffs

"I'd be helping you bring down your enemy and you still ask?"

"Right I'd bring Caliste down but then what?, The last time, I tried to, I ended up here so I need more to go ahead with your plan"

It's been exactly 2 months since I got myself here. life has become tolerable compared to weeks ago.

I still get bullied by my inmates but they don't hit me as much,I managed to scale through the months without a confession and no one messes with me,not anymore. Not with Festis Douglas by my side.

"You ended up the way you did because you didn't have my backing. This time, everything will go smoothly"

"You can't convince me to go back there. I'm done with the Darius and Orson family" I state but we both know that's a lie

I've spent the past months plotting and cursing and wishing death on them .

He knows I want to destroy the Orsons. The same way I know he wants to finish the Darius

"I'd get you outta here"

"Of course you will do the job. I can't seduce Mason for you when I'm locked in here, but I'm not about to risk my life for a few coins, you have to pay me heavily, so I'd be settled when I get out" I drawl, taking a swing from the bottle

He grunts and I laugh

"Why the long face Uncle Douglas?, I'd come back when I am done and it's not like I'm asking for much from you, you're a tycoon"

He shakes his head, cigar lolling in his hand.

I still don't know what brought him here. He wouldn't tell and everyone who knows is either outside, too afraid to say anything or dead.

He has power here, so much that I suspect, extends to his life outside.

"If you do this for me Emma, you'd leave this place for good, never to return and I'd give you a billion dollars" he says with finality.

I gasp.

CALISTE'S POV

I flutter my eyes open, wincing when a sudden darkness attacks me.

My head is aching and I feel stiff. It is difficult to discern my body from the cast and wires connected to it.

There is a beeping in the background.

I close my eyes, open them, close them again.

It's quiet here. Too quiet and it unnerves me. I do not know why and this unnerves me further.

The beeping, it's more annoyinggg.

Please someone turn that off. I groan. I can barely move my head.

I am in a hospital room. Lots of machines, lots of white.

It smells horrible.

Oh God my head

I can't move my body.

Well my neck can turn just a little and I can tap my pinky finger on the bed. But that's about it.

What happened?

I think but I come up blank,I can't remember how i got here.

And now that I think about it, I can't remember anything.

I remember nothing.

Panic starts to set in and the beeping gets worse.

I groan. It hurts to speak.

From the corner of my eye, I notice something move and I wail, trashing and moving to stay away from it.

But it's just a guy

A very sexy guy with black hair and a serious face.

This means I am safe right?

If I was left with him here, it means I'm safe right?

He is mumbling the name "Calista", perhaps he is shouting.

It's hard to know with my pounding headache. I feel like I'm underwater.

"Calista, you're awake" he looks happy to see me. I'm guessing Calista is my name, it sounds like a bitch's name.

Oh well

He's saying something again. Really fast and it's making my headache worse. He looks pretty emotional too.

Dear Lord I must look horrible

He attempts to sit me up and I suck in a breath from the pain that attacks me.

*Sorry sorry" he whispers.

"You're too loud" I say, at least I try to say, my tongue feels heavy and foreign, difficult to move but I think he understood me because he shits up immediately.

Staring at me like I'm s fucking statue.

Damn how long have I been sleeping here?

"The nurse" I croak , my eyes watering. It hurts so bad, what do I do to get here.?

Sexy man dashes out and returns minutes later, the nurse in tow. She checks everything and I tell her about not remembering anything.

I hear a sexy man curse when I say this, which is odd, but also attractive, mildly.

A doctor is called in, so are a few nurses and they begin to prod and turn and check but they do not tell me who I am

Sexy man is with me the entire time. Rapt attention and all, there's some grey in his hair, it makes him look so good.

But who is Caliste ?

How did I get here?

Who am I?
