Chapter 6 His Gaze

The change in his gaze was swift, for a few moments, I couldn't look away, my eyes remained locked with his, it was like a magnetic force pulling us to stare at each other even more and, despite knowing that I shouldn't look into the alpha's face directly, I just couldn't help it.

"You are the bride the alpha's mother got for me?"

His ever masculine voice jerks me out of my thoughts. One would think he is a man in his forties due to how thick his voice is, but he is just a few years older than I am.

If there's a voice that would make the hearts of women flutter like I always hear Deborah say, then I guess his voice should fit the one she is always talking about.

His question doesn't really sound like one, but he looked like he was asking with a mixture of surprise.

"Yes my alpha, I am Scarlet Marigold.I'm pleased to see you, my alpha."

I'm supposed to be in my best behavior. This is the only way to get the freedom I have always wanted. If I can successfully withstand my stepmother's cruel behavior, then this should be a piece of cake for me. I should be able to handle this.

"The maids will show you to your room..." His voice echoed in my ears and, no matter how I try to shrug this feeling off, I can't help but think he is familiar. I feel I have heard this voice from somewhere, but there is no way someone like me would know an alpha let alone finding his voice quite familiar.

I must be mistaken or probably hearing things,I'm so not in the right frame of mind.

"And, don't feel too comfortable in this pack. If you want to stay in this pack as peacefully as you can, avoid me by all means."

"I'm sure you understand what I mean? I don't ever want to see you anywhere close to me and maintain your status as my wife faraway from me if you can.

"Show her to her room Declan and come in as soon as you are done."

With that, he turned around without looking back.

His voice sounds mature, I thought he was different from what I had heard, but I'm back to reality. Now I know why people address him the way they do. He is a frightening man who changes like a chameleon.

It appears that there's no space for me in this world. I am nothing but a human and there's no way I can fit into this world where werewolves rule. I will always be in between. As cruel as my fate might be, I have embraced it.I just hope all of this ends soon so I can finally have a taste of freedom in this world.

"Come with me." Declan's voice jolted me out of my thoughts.

"So, here is your room. I hope it's to your liking. Everything you need is in there and if you need anything at any point in time, you should tell the maids."

"Thanks." I said in a whisper, ignoring the pitiful look he had on his face.

"And I'm beta Declan, hope to see you around." He said, turning to leave, but he returned almost immediately.

"I will have a maid show you round the mansion,Also have this."

Wow, it's a cellphone. This place wouldn't be that shitty after all. This is the same brand Deborah uses.

"Thanks, is it mine or..."

"It's yours, the alpha wanted you to have it.I will be on my way now."

I now have a phone! I can't believe this.I might finally be able to connect with humans like me with this.I have always wished to have one for myself and I finally do.I wish I could just flaunt it in Deborah's face. She would be so shocked.

"I'm here alpha." Declan said, walking to my table.

I looked up to see the unanswered questions written all over his face.I'm sure he is shocked at my outburst out there.

"What's the look for?" Closing the book before me in a swift,I looked up at him and, just like he had been waiting for the question, he sat down facing me.

"Do you have anything against your new wife?"

"I mean I have been with you for years and though you try to act cold and heartless, so people don't see your weakness, you don't even know her and I can boldly say that because I follow you around."

"You seem to dislike her without getting to know her. Is there a reason for that or is there something I missed out on?"

"She is the woman I had sex with at the hotel."

"I don't know her though, but I didn't expect someone who looks as innocent as she is to be involved with such a family and don't forget my stepmother brought her in here, which means she is on a mission.

"That might be true, she is not to be trusted, but then we can't deny the fact that she still looks innocent."

"Do you still want me to gather information about her or should I just let things slide and watch as the whole thing unravels?"

"She is now my wife after all and no matter how long I try to shrug her off, we will definitely cross paths,just in case to gather the little information you can about her and let me know if there's something important I can hold onto."

"Alright."

I would never have thought that the girl who ended up saving my life would now make my stepmother's plan become successful.

She might have saved me when I needed it temporarily, but with the way things are going, if I'm not careful enough, she might be the end of me and my stepmother should back off if she knows that I don't have any feelings whatsoever for her.

"The elders might come soon. You will have to introduce your Luna to the whole pack, so I have saved her contact on your phone, so give her a call if you need her to get ready."

"What's the need to introduce a human mate to the whole pack? A human mate who might end up being the end of me."

I groaned loudly.

"Well, I'm sure those elderly don't really care about that, all they are after is being a loyal dog to the alpha's mother."

"Just go ahead and do your job,I have a lot of thinking to do."

I shrugged, staring back at my book, both the additional scent in the room made me look up.

"I will be on my way, my Lord," Declan said, trying to walk away, but Kyle was quick to stop him.

"Why are you always running off whenever you see me around the alpha? Are you scared of me?"

"Scared? Is there a reason why I should?"

"I have errands to run for the alpha, so I will leave you two alone to have your discussion."

"What do you want this time around, Kyle?"I asked without glancing up at him.

"Is that how you address your brother whom you hardly talk with?"

"Brother?"

"Yeah,I'm sure I'm not mistaken. You are fortunate to have someone like my mother cater for you. Her presence in your life makes me your brother. You should be happy to have us around you."

He is such a blabbermouth and exchanging words with a minor is not one of my plans.

"What is it you want, Kyle? "I have a lot of things to do and exchanging words with you is the least of the things I want to actually do, so if you can't go straight to the point, please see yourself out.

"You shouldn't act this way. Who knows if this will be the last time we will ever see each other and have a discussion?

The question made me freeze in my seat. He has his way of revealing his plans to me without knowing it, and I'm sure he is here to tell me that they are planning to finally take me out of the way after this whole thing.

"Are you traveling? Or what exactly do you mean by that?"

"I'm the alpha here and I don't leave my post for anything except it's important so it can only mean that you are travelling and might not come back or better still take long before you return so where are you going this time around?"

I asked making him chuckle loudly

"Travel? Where? Is that the only thing you can think of

"You are the alpha and it's quite a pen that you have a shallow way of thinking,as an alpha you should be able to think towards all directions but you are really narrow minded and you know nothing which would make this whole thing even more fun."

"I still don't get what you are saying,I think you should leave so I can read in peace.

"Oh, I will do that,and this might actually be the last congratulations I get to give you.

"Congratulations on getting married to a beautiful human,watch your back well."

"As much as I would love to spend more time with you,time and season wouldn't permit me..."
