Chapter 2 PROLOGUE 2

Heavy footsteps, shouts of war, smell of agony and pain, wariness, death, blood and more blood. Every thing was happening like a slow motion movie in front of me.

I trembled and whimpered next to my dying mother, as another one of our best warrior fell to her death. Mother held me close, she didn't want me to enter the war.

Mother had dragged me out of the war field, hiding us away, "Go, go and take your sister." She said.

I looked at her wondering of she knew what she was saying, our kingdom was right there in front of us, falling- no, it wasn't falling, it had fallen- to her face.

Nausea clawed at my throat as my best friend's decapitated head flew across the field, I leaned forward to retch out what was left of my breakfast.

I turned to my mother, "I have to go out there mother, I have to save our kingdom! Father is gone, it is up to me now."

Mother winced at the mention of father's death- or her severe injury but I was past that at that point in time.

"No! No! Don't! Please! Take your sister and what is left of our kingdom. My son, please! You know you have to save them. The children and the women, you know. Take them, please! You can build the kingdom back." She was whispering desperately, power drained from her, and her voice.

She began to wheeze, my heart jumps to my mouth. I knew it was about to be over. My mother's life was about to leave, my life too. I was never going to be the same again.

I felt water well in my eyes, Father had always told me how much of a strong boy I was. Every single thing Father told me began to resurface in my thought. Including the part where he told me 'Do not trust anyone, I will be surprised where betrayal came from.'

This was an insider job and therefore, every way of our escape had been barricaded, several werewolves, waiting to kill any lycan available.

I began to think hard, there had to be a way to save my mother and all other people available around.

"No, remember when your father showed you the ER?" She said.

When my mother said ER, I understood it was one of the many escape routes we had in town, precisely the one in the blue panic room.

I nodded, "Nobody knows about it, get the people you can. Do not preserve your enemy, do not allow spies, guide your kingdom diligently, trust no..." She stopped to splutter blood to the ground next to her.

I determined she was done with all she was doing, I picked up my sword and heaved her off the ground, "No, listen to me. My blood will leave track! Guard your gifts with everything you have, you a pure blood. Take care of your sister and your future mate."

I didn't want to think much about why she was talking like she was about to die, I didn't want to believe she was about to die.

A bullet hit our conspicuous cover, mother groaned, tears welling in her eyes. "Bend over, my boy."

It was a whisper. I leaned towards her, my whole body trembling. She kissed my face, whispering again, "I love you. Tell your sister how much I love her too. I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you. Go!"

The strength in her last words was Lycan's command, it wasn't hypnotism; however, it worked like it.

It pushed me to my feet, and without my consent, I resisted it. I had to embrace my power as the new Lycan King, I turned back to my mother to tell her how much I loved her, but it was too late.

A sob wrenched through me, I had to leave the dead and fight for the living. I turned my back and left her cold body there, with pain overtaking my senses; and my hand on the hilt of my sword.

And a deathly power waiting to unleash.
