Damn. Her voice could not but drive me crazy. If only she knew how I felt.
"I have something for you. A gift if I may."
She gaped at the sight of the necklace. "Really!"
"Of course. Let me help you with it."
She turned, and I hung the hundred million dollar piece on her neck. But my eyes didn't fail to notice the scars on her skin, and my wolf sneered within.
"You look beautiful."
"Thanks," she smiled. And I satisfied myself with the thought that she was happy, regardless of the circumstances surrounding our meeting. It was the least I could do.
You must have been through hell.
"I already asked Mr Redwood to bring your things. And he seems to be taking forever," I said. She smiled. Oh goodness. Her smile was one of its kind. Something to look forward to...
"An animal attack?" Came a voice from the 'after-party' chit chat conversation of a few persons outside the hall. I got hold of Mr Redwood amongst the men. He turned on his heel at my stare.
"Sorry for keeping you waiting."
"You should," I deadpanned.
My eyes followed the little box as it made its way to her hands. How many pairs of clothes would it take?
"Is that all you've got?" I asked.
She shrugged. "Well, I guess I don't have much."
"You have nothing," I barked. She shrugged further.
I turned my stare back to the man whom I figured must have made her life a living hell. Everything about me wanted to reap the bastard apart. And as if that was not enough to piss me off, he stretched forth some filthy fingers.
"Nice doing business with you." he said.
"What!" someone exclaimed.
My gaze turned to Aria. Of course she was stunned at the remark. Now she got the answer to her question.
I stared for a few seconds, and I guess he saw the anger plastered on my face when he pulled back his arm.
Creating a scene would be perfect. But with the crowd outside, I satisfied myself that today was his lucky day.
"Perhaps you should learn to take good care of those under your custody," I said bluntly.
I turned to my mate who had been watching the unfolding movie. "Get in the back seat...and throw that thing out. I will get you new clothes once we arrive in Sheffield."
"Sheffield!" She squeaked.
"Yes. That's where I live. And I would like to get home sometime today, if that's OK with you." My tone was harsh this time. The place couldn't even worth my time, and I had spent eternity in the shit place and with worthless humans.
Tobias kept his eyes on the road and was silent as usual. The atmosphere was tense. There were so many questions left unanswered. Since the car set into motion, we were yet to have a decent conversation. There she was, all keeping to herself right beside me.
What the hell is she thinking of?
"So what should I call you?" The long overdue silence shattered at my question. Her gaze met mine, and I turned to Tobias who busied himself on the driver's seat.
"Aria," she said coldly.
Silence returned. I wasn't sure if she had shifted yet. And that was the more pressing question.
"So you are eighteen right?"
"Yes."
A start. A Good one for that matter. She had turned eighteen, the age at which werewolves got to see their first, but most painful transformation under a full moon. So I satisfied myself knowing she was of age.
Perfect.
"So what about the other thing?"
"What thing?" she asked.
Is she kidding me right now?
I sighed. "Your wolf thing. Have you shifted yet?"
"What!" she exclaimed. A funny question to her; too funny that she burst out laughing.
"Don't tell me you believe those bedtime stories," she added.
"What!" My turn.
Tobias let go of the gas pedal and the car screeched to a halt abruptly.
"Tobias!"
"I'm sorry boss!"
I sighed. Tobias was even more stunned at her remark. He turned his face backward. Only then did he realize he had chauffeured a human for the last couple of hours.
I slumped backwards to catch the breath that never left.
What the hell have I got myself into? Is the moon goddess trying to punish me?.
