Chapter 4 The Reunion

The police came, gathered a few shreds of evidence and statements from my neighbors, and left, leaving me to continue staring at my vandalized apartment in disbelief.

From the pieces of evidence that were gathered by the police, a few men in black outfits and black masks appeared a few months ago to execute the vandalism. Some of my neighbors said it seemed like a planned job because they went straight to my apartment the minute they arrived at the complex.

When I asked about my husband, one of my neighbors said he saw him sneaking out a few weeks after my arrest in a mask with two duffel bags and a camp bag.

I stayed frozen in my spot when the man had added that he remembered walking up to him and informing him about my arrest in case he wasn't aware but, Davis shoved him away angrily, immediately hailing a taxi.

I still insisted that the man was wrong. Maybe he mistook another man for Davis.

Davis would never do that to me.

However, I got a thousand debit alerts immediately after I powered my phone, and all my bank accounts cleared to their last penny.

I had four of them and I had only shared the pin with one person.

Davis.

Please no.

Let it not be.

My valuable things were also missing. All the pieces of jewelry I had purchased with my pay. That Rolex watch I got as a gift from Barnes for employee of the month. By Jimmy Choo heels. All my channels. Everything cleared!

I couldn't cry. I thought I would but, the sobs just kept getting stuck in my throat and instead of tears, I forgot how to breathe.

The sobs stuck in my throat blacked out my oxygen.

My chest heaved harder with each passing second. I thought it was a panic attack but, it was just the pain and dread I felt.

Davis betrayed me.

I got an order of protection from the police but, I couldn't stay in my apartment again anyway.

Every single thing that I owned was destroyed.

I had to find somewhere else to stay.

I had nowhere to stay. I had no family.

My mother had left me when I was young. My elder sister followed in her step.

And, my father.

He was bedridden. The last time I had paid a visit, the nurse had asked me not to pay a visit again unless necessary.

His condition was that worse.

Looking back at my life, I had lived a sad one.

I'm pushing 40 yet, nothing to show forth.

No job. No family. No life. My life had always crumpled whenever I attempted to build it.

The only option I came up with was Theo.

My ex-boyfriend.

We broke up seven years ago, a few months before I met Davis but, we were still quite close.

At least, we don't see each other on the street and pretend like strangers.

Theo owned a fast-food restaurant around the corner that I frequented. I remembered teasing him that last time that I deserved to be a part of the shareholder of the restaurant due to the many times I had stopped by for a meal or two.

He was closed for the day so, when I walked in, the bell stationed over the door jiggling above my head, he had announced that he was closed and wasn't receiving customers.

He almost repeated himself when I made it in until he swirled around and caught my gaze.

I smiled. Maybe tried to. Nothing about what I had just experienced was funny.

However, I would be requesting a night or two sleepovers at his place, I should appear friendly.

He didn't return my smile.

Did he hear about the arrest too?

"How are you back? I thought she said you were serving nine years?"

I frowned.

"She?"

"Yes. Liv stopped by quite often and informed me."

Sure she did. I had always suspected she had a thing for Theo when she was always suggesting his restaurant whenever we wanted to grab dinner or lunch.

The bitch was always attracted to anything in briefs.

"I was bailed. Though I don't know the good samaritan and they've refused to disclose their identity, here I am."

A smile suddenly spread across Theo's face and he suddenly approached me and wrapped me in a hug.

I was taken by surprise so I couldn't return the hug until he withdrew.

"Are you okay? I was going to visit you but, I've been stacked up with work here. Business has been hectic."

I smiled softly. The first genuine one since I got arrested.

"I know. It's okay."

"Please sit. I will get you something to eat."

He was about to start striding away when I quickly grabbed him.

"Uhm. Theo, I-I actually have a request."

He turned to me and I swallowed.

Oh heaven, let this be good.

"Can I crash here for a night or two?"

Please say yes.

Theo frowned and my heart leaped out of my chest when his frown deepened.

"You know that's not possible. I can't accommodate you. Find somewhere else."

Oh no. I dropped my head in disappointment but, slowly raised it when I heard him burst into laughter.

He was cracking, holding his stomach. It was my turn to frown.

"You are so silly. Did you believe I would do that? It is always fun teasing you."

Oh, thank goodness. I breathed a sigh of relief.

"You know you are always welcome. You can stay in the dressing room. Let me grab you a bite real quick."

He patted my shoulder and swirled around, heading to the back room.

Okay. I have a place to stay in the meantime. What now?

I have to find Davis. Could he have returned to his grandmother's hometown?

I had his driver's license, I could approach the police to help me track him with that.

Messages were still swarming into my phone, especially debits. That bastard has the effrontery to shop with my card.

He probably thought I was still in prison.

Theo appeared again with Burger and Coke.

Oh, he just had to bring the masterpiece.

I had always fantasized about it when I was in prison now, I had it on a platter.

"Whenever I close for the day, I will have to lock the door and come as early as I can the following day to open it. Is that okay by you?"

Theo asked as he handed me the Burger and the Coke.

"Yeah, sure."

I accepted it and munched on a bite, moaning at the taste thereafter.

I freshened up immediately Theo locked the door and went into the dressing room.

As I lay back on the cushioned bench, my phone pinged.

Initially, I had thought it was one of those texts again so, I planned to turn off my phone again.

However, the message came from an unknown number and the first words of the message had me freezing in a spot. I instantly clicked it to get the full text.

"I get sleepless nights thinking about that night. I want you, Summer. I want a repeat of that night but this time, I want to slide my dick inside you without any goddamn interruption."

The text said
