It was as if Serena didn't have a headache at the moment. Her face looked very happy.
"How about Mr. Hellen?"
"Please, don't ask so many questions!" As if by magic, Nate's face changed instantly because Marianne asked too many questions.
Marianne, who was frightened by the look on Nate's face, chose to look down.
"And you will live in the Cooper residence, as long as you are Serena's nurse."
Hearing this, Marianne's face, which had been downcast, now looked up with a look of rejection.
"I can't, Mr ... I have my parents to take care of."
"Don't worry about it. I've already taken care of it and made sure your parents have no objection to my request."
"Still can't. They're both not as fit as they used to be. I can't."
Nate made an annoyed face. Why was Marianne testing his patience so much?
"Get Marianne's parents on the phone!" Nate ordered one of his bodyguards who was standing not far from him.
Soon, a video call was connected to Marianne's parents.
Marianne was confused, where did her parents get a cell phone?
["Hi, Marianne! Thank you for working with Mr. Nate! Mom and Dad are so happy!"] There was no sign of sadness at all shown by her parents.
Even Marianne was confused, how could her father stand up? Wasn't her father completely paralyzed?
Marianne looked puzzled at Nate who already knew what Marianne was thinking.
["Don't argue with anything Mr. Nate says! Work diligently! And don't forget, transfer the money to us every week!"]
As if there was no concern at all, her parents immediately closed the video call unilaterally.
"Understand now? Your parents have deceived you. They're fine but it's as if they're sick and can't go anywhere, so you're the one working hard and they're the ones enjoying the fruits of your labor."
How did Nate know? Hadn't they just gotten to know each other?
Marianne daydreamed, feeling foolish for having been deceived by her parents. Every day she sacrificed everything. Especially her youth that she spent working hard.
Lucas, who was beside Marianne, understood what she was feeling. He immediately hugged Marianne. Stroking her back to make Marianne more resilient.
"Marianne! Let's go!" exclaimed Serena who was already in the car, not forgetting her bright smile.
That was Marianne's weakness, she couldn't fight Serena. One of the patients who remained strong even at a very young age already had to deal with the hospital.
Honestly, it had been a long time since Nate had seen such a happy smile from his sister. Although Nate felt uncomfortable with other people around his sister, if it was for Serena's happiness, he would do anything.
Because right now, Serena only had him and his grandfather. Both of their parents were gone.
Not wanting to slow down, Nate got into the car. A car driven by his driver. Followed by Marianne who was still hesitant.
"Serena, is something hurting?" Nate held Serena's face and rubbed it gently.
"Nothing, Brother. I'm fine. Don't worry about me too much, I now have Marianne by my side!" Without hesitation, Serena hugged Marianne who was also sitting beside her.
"Marianne, can I sleep on your lap?" Serena's simple request immediately received a nod from Marianne.
Not long after, Serena fell asleep. She felt very comfortable sleeping on Marianne's lap.
Nate and the driver who saw it could only be silent. Why did the stranger easily captivate his sister's heart?
Realizing Serena had fallen asleep, Nate let out a long sigh and leaned his head against the chair. Realizing there was Marianne next to him who had been silent, Nate looked at Marianne.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" The question just came out of Nate's mouth.
And Marianne only answered it with a shake.
"If you ask me, answer, don't just shake your head!" Nate scolded but his voice was not too loud. Considering Serena was sleeping.
He didn't like people who just gave a nod or a shake when he asked a question.
"No, Mr. Nate."
"Good. I don't want your boyfriend going back and forth to the Cooper residence."
Nate inwardly cursed himself. Why of all the questions he could have asked, did he choose to ask such an unimportant one?
There was no more conversation until the car arrived at the Cooper residence. The house was like a palace.
There were bodyguards everywhere. CCTV in every corner. Luxury cars lined up in his garage. Indeed, the luxury owned by the Cooper family had amazed Marianne.
When her car door was opened by one of the security guards there, it made her heart race. She was going to work here? How could she possibly work for such a respected family in this country?
"Serena, please!" Nate ordered the maid who had been standing in the parking lot of the Cooper house. To serve Serena.
"I'll bring her!" Marianne said.
"Hurry up!" Nate would not allow Marianne to bring Serena.
"Alright, Mr. Nate." Carefully, the maid took over the sleeping Serena from Marianne's lap ... Indeed, her body felt lighter.
"And you, come with me!" Nate suddenly pulled Marianne's arm towards the garden at the hospital. He let out a frustrated sigh and his Hunter eyes stared at Marianne's innocent face.
"I'm going to make a deal with you, regarding your contract with Serena!" he said, his face looking very serious.
"Mr, I would like you to give me some free time so I can meet with my parents." Marianne still denied that her parents had been cruel to her.
"I wouldn't have allowed you to go out without Serena, if not for Serena's regularly scheduled hospital visits. So that means you can't," Nate emphasized with a sharp gaze that made Marianne unable to move at all.
"No one is to leave this house, without my orders. Not even the guards, because they've signed a contract here. Understood?"
Gosh, why did Marianne have to be trapped in this magnificent palace? Marianne had only imagined working in a hospital rather than being the Cooper Family's nurse.
"Regarding the employment contract, my secretary will provide an employment contract tomorrow morning for you to sign!" he said again.
Marianne wanted to cry right then and there. Would she be one of the Cooper prisoners living in his residence from now on?
Not wanting to receive any protests from Marianne, Nate left her behind as he went to his grandfather's office. One of his guards had given him the code to meet Mr. Cooper.
Hadn't his grandfather said that he was in Morocco? So why was he now in London again?
Nate took the simple route of taking the elevator. He didn't bother taking the stairs, which was his grandfather's office on the third floor.
"Grandpa," he called as Nate opened the door to his grandfather's office.
"So, the nurse you brought is the woman in this photo?"
As Nate walked in, his grandfather showed him the photo on his iPad screen.
"That's right, Grandpa. Nate had no other choice."
"All right. Most importantly, the rumors about Serena being a patient at the hospital have died down. Now, you need to get to work."
"See, he's the one who tried to escape to Norway. He just killed his wife. And now, he's on the run. You need to find him right now. Make the citizens believe that Cooper Group can easily handle this matter." Mr. Cooper changed the subject.
"Make him open up too so that he admits that he killed his wife!"
"So, he's not being honest?"
"That's why he's running away now that the media is accusing him."
"Use the gun if he won't confess too."
See? Even since childhood, Nate had been urged by his grandfather to be a cold-blooded and fearless man.
Since he was ten years old, Nate had been taken to the Cooper Group. He was used to seeing criminals shot, executed, and beaten to a pulp because they still wouldn't confess.
Mr. Cooper stood up from his chair and patted Nate on the shoulder.
"I'm proud of you. You've overcome everything. From Serena's problems to work!"
"Nate did all this for our family. Especially Serena who is now sick." Nate had to convince himself that he could be Cooper's successor.
Especially since he wasn't a teenager anymore. Later this year, Nate will be appointed as Cooper's successor and he must instill Mr. Cooper's ruthless nature into him.
Now, Nate is on a plane to Norway. Nate, who was previously focused on reading the file given by Mr. Cooper, now understands where he will go when he lands in Norway.
"We go straight to the village here." Nate's index finger pointed to a map of Norway. More precisely to one of the remote villages in Norway.
"Alright, Mr. Nate."
The journey from London to Norway had taken only a short time. And now, the Cooper Group's private jet had landed on one of Norway's international flights.
As Nate climbed the steps of the plane to exit, a black car was ready to drive him to the remote village.
The staff at the airport had their heads down. They must know who Nate is. Nathaniel Cooper was like his twin brother, Mr. Cooper. They shared the same traits of being cold-blooded and good at what they did.
"Did anyone around here see that guy?" Nate asked the resident who was his current driver.
"He was seen buying a ticket to board the ship, Mr. Cooper."
"Damn it. Speed up the car. We can't be late!"
Thirty minutes later, the car was parked in the village Nate had mentioned.
The gun Mr. Cooper had given him lay on top of the car seat. Without hesitation, Nate picked it up. From now on, he had to carry that gun wherever he went. Soon he will become the face of the Cooper Group, and there will be many enemies who secretly want to kill him.
He kept the gun in his coat pocket. And Nate started to get out of the car.
"Mr. Nate, that man has entered the ship."
"How did he pass the identity check?" Nate asked because Nate had told the ship's officer to check the face and identity of every passenger who would board the ship that day.
His bodyguard was silent. With just one kick, Nate was able to shake his bodyguard's massive frame.
"You idiot! Fire him! I don't need a bodyguard with a brain like him!" Nate said to one of his other bodyguards.
"M ... Please don't fire me! I'm sorry!" The bodyguard pleaded with Nate and even grabbed Nate's leg.
"Let go or I'll have another bodyguard throw you overboard?" Nate threatened.
Frightened by the threat, the bodyguard quickly released his grip on Nate's leg.
"If anyone does incompetent work. I will fire all of you immediately! Cooper Group doesn't need unreliable people!" Nate emphasized to his other bodyguards.
After that, Nate walked towards the ship. Followed by his 5 bodyguards.
"You search every room on this ship."
"Alright, Mr."
"Prepare a private room for me!" Nate said to one of the staff on the ship.
After waiting for twenty minutes, there was no sign of the killer.
An impatient Nate walked out. However, just as he opened the door, he already saw one of his bodyguards pulling the collar of the man Mr. Cooper was referring to.
"What took you so long, damn it? You can't even catch a little frog!" Nate grumbled that it was taking them too long to find the killer.
"Tie him to that chair. Blindfold him," Nate ordered.
Once his eyes were blindfolded and tied firmly enough, the killer screamed for help.
"Shut your mouth! You can only talk if I tell you to!"
Nate felt like punching the killer in the face.
He threw one of the items lying on the table, aiming it at the killer's face.
"Mr. Nate ... It's best not to do anything rude just yet. Because we're going to record it. If he doesn't open his mouth, then we'll do something harsh," one of the bodyguards said.
Nate was always angry at criminals who could easily commit crimes, especially against his wife.
While trying to contain his emotions, Nate sat on a chair. He stared at the camera that his bodyguard had pressed.
"What are you boarding this ship for? When your wife is mourning the death of her family?" The first question out of Nate's mouth.
"I ... Because I was accused of killing my wife."
"Accused? Who first accused you of killing your wife?" Nate was still trying to get the killer to confess.
"My daughter!"
"Why would your daughter suddenly accuse you of killing your wife?"
"Because ... Because it's .... "
"Answer!" Nate's temper was getting out of control, as the man stammered out an answer.
"I didn't kill my wife!"
Nate rose from his seat and laughed evilly.
"Still won't confess? We have hard evidence!"
The killer didn't answer. Remember, Nate didn't like people who didn't answer his questions.
"Answer, damn it! You killed someone!" Not to be outdone, Nate kicked the chair the killer was sitting in and banged his head on the floor.
"If you don't confess, we'll do even harder things to make you confess!"
While trying to scare the killer, one of the bodyguards interrupted Nate. He had a look of panic on his face.
"Mr. Nate ... One of our guards has been shot ... And the cause is the Jenner family!"
The Jenner family? Why would that family come back to London? Aren't they already hated by the people here? So, is Nate going to fly to London soon? And hold off on interrogating the murder confession?
