Chapter 1 THE OFFICE 

PROLOGUE

The sound of crickets and chickadees could be heard in the air as she kept running. Her deep breaths and panting sounded sharp in the night. The wet grass continued scraping her feet and ankles as she kept running away despite being barefoot.

"I can hear you," Alpha Damien of the Greek Olympus pack loudly shouted at her. "You are my mate and you have nowhere to run!"

Slightly breathless, the petite 17-year-old blond shouted back at the Alpha, "LET ME BE, you big ANIM..." Out of breath, she rasped in exhaustion and terror as she hit a dead end.

In front of the poor fleeing maiden was a sheer and steep cliff, several miles high, with hardly any protrusions and vegetation to hold on to...

"You are mine," the dark-haired Alpha replied with an assuring tone and his signature sly smile on his handsome face.

Damien is now twenty-five years old and he's the only one in his pack who still has no mate.

His best friend Lyon got his mate when he hit eighteen years on their way to their usual hangout park. He could feel his best friend's joy when he discovered that his mate was around that park.

Damien followed Lyon as he tracked the compelling scent of chamomile with vanilla that he caught from his mate.

"Why can't I get a mate," the young wealthy but unknown internet multi-billionaire lamented,

Standing by the window side of his website's multi-billion penthouse office, a quick knock on the door distracted him from his memory of Lyon's discovery of his mate.

"Come in! He commanded,

His new disorganised secretary walked into his office with her shoulder-length dark hair still uncombed, a noticeable tear on the hem of her ruffled skirt and scuffed, dusty flats. The multi-awarded computer program and app creator – who is also the latest international internet sensation - sighed in disappointment at the woman who just entered his ultra-modern and elegant penthouse workplace.

"Moriah, how many times have I told you to always dress presentably, least?" Damien admonished her irritably. "You look like a rat that was dragged out of the sewer."

FREYA'S POV

I have been working with Greek digital securities for nine months now. According to my findings, no secretary of Mr Damien has ever lasted long with him because of his sharp, frank and hurtful words plus his ultra-critical attitude. To be honest, I have been a bit affected by all these female employees complaining about him to me, that I almost considered resigning from his fast-rising digital and web company a few times. I mean, is he a chauvinistic pig who automatically looks down on women, or what?! Had I not had a very dire need for the above-average income and bonus accommodations that his company provides which was offered to me, I would have gone up and left a long time ago!

It would be a given that once I'm done checking my pet project for any bugs, I will have to meet him and our board members to give them a presentation so it would be approved for production. Though, I'm partially dreading it...

Because as of now, his new secretary is here on my division floor crying up a storm and wailing like a banshee! If I don't know any better he's aiming to hire Elena as his secretary in the end, except that damn easy girl is too clueless and stupid to realize it and would have to be told to her face so she would get it!

Everyone in the building knows that it's never just a pure "meeting" or "conference" that happens between Damien and Elena. Every time Miss Elena comes to meet with Damien for the sake of her fiancé protection program - since she's supposedly a witness of a crime committed in their neighbourhood... Yeeeaaahhh, riiiighhhht, sssuuuurrre! - anybody close enough to the executive penthouse when it's closed and only those two are alone inside, would always hear long pleasured moaning and other erotic sounds coming from the locked door.

Then, a few minutes later, Elena is always seen coming out of the office door with crumpled clothes, her hairdo a mess and her lipstick smudged. She could be always seen – and recorded in the building CCTV - trying to adjust her outfit and hair to look presentable on her way out. As if she couldn't use Damien's private office bathroom to do that. She could even fully reapply her make-up there if she wanted to. Not very bright that one, even if she is model material in the looks and brains department...

But she's probably doing that on purpose to show everybody that she and Damien has a 'thing' going on between them. Oh well, who cares?

Definitely not me!
