Chapter 4 Was She Going To Die

Brad discarded the whip and left the room.

Before departing, Monica took one last look at Corinna, who was barely breathing. A small, satisfied smile played at the corners of her mouth.

Monica felt a deep sense of satisfaction with the situation.

She believed she had claimed everything that once belonged to Rachael.

Despite Rachael's former prowess, she was now powerless to even protect her own daughter.

Brad did not bother to summon a doctor for Corinna.

No one even brought medicine for her.

The combination of her injuries and the chilly air soon caused Corinna to develop a fever after being returned to her room.

After spending hours lying there, Corinna finally came to.

She tried to shift her position, but the movement tugged at her wound, sending waves of sharp pain through her body and causing her to break out in a cold sweat.

Her fever made her head spin.

With considerable effort, she lifted her hand to touch the wound.

The sharp pain was jarring, yet it momentarily cleared her mind.

Taking a deep breath, she managed to pull out her phone and the business card Andres had left her. She typed out a message to him.

"Please, Mr. Spencer, help me escape the Hudson family's villa. I desperately need your help."

Sending the message seemed to use up all of Corinna's remaining energy.

Each motion was agony, and she struggled against the overwhelming desire to lose consciousness due to the fever.

Determined not to miss any response from Andres, Corinna focused on the pain from her wound to stay awake.

As the night deepened, the air turned colder.

Still, there was no response from Andres, and Corinna feared she might never hear from him.

Meanwhile, Andres was under the attentive care of his medical team at his mansion.

Colten Wallace, who was treating Andres, was visibly amazed. "This is simply miraculous, absolutely miraculous! To perform surgery with the bullet so close to your heart and to succeed under these conditions! I can't believe someone actually pulled it off!"

Watching Colten's animated reaction, Kevin asked, "Dr. Wallace, could you tone down the theatrics a bit? What's Mr. Spencer's actual condition?"

Colten shot back, "Theatrics? Are you aware of the skill and nerve required for this operation? A single error, and your boss would be gone!"

"Shut up," Andres muttered, clearly irritated.

Just then, his phone buzzed.

Andres glanced at the incoming message but paused before responding.

He recalled that the Hudson family had been struggling financially. They had eventually secured a deal with the Howe family who they didn't really know that well to begin with.

Caleb Howe, known for his lavish lifestyle and weak judgment, was infamous among Driyver's elite for his reckless behavior.

Despite being thirty-seven and still unmarried, Caleb's family had been ready to burn their family wealth to find him a suitable bride.

It appeared that the Hudsons had alleviated their financial woes by promising their daughter's hand in marriage.

But was Corinna's plea for help a desperate attempt to escape this arranged marriage?

Kevin hesitated before asking, "Sir? Should I get the car ready?"

Andres remained silent, his eyes closed in contemplation.

Meanwhile, Corinna lay on the cold bed, still without a reply from Andres as her consciousness waned.

She had trusted a stranger, perhaps foolishly.

Her wounds were still bleeding.

She knew she couldn't wait any longer.

After sending the message, she placed her phone beside her, but it slid to the other side of the bed.

Reaching for it was beyond her strength; every attempt brought unbearable pain.

Her vision blurred further.

So, this was how she would die?

It seemed absurd. After all her medical training, she couldn't save herself.

As she drifted out of consciousness, she thought of Andres and the risk he had faced.

She had saved a man who now seemed to have broken his promise.

People who broke their promises would eventually face their consequences, with no one coming to their aid.
