Chapter 5 Unfortunate Morning

Emily felt doubtful at the sight in front of her. The owner of this place looked young and dashing. The appearance is perfect. His tall and straight posture is still visible even when he is sitting. His eyes continued to stare at Emily intently. His sturdy jaw seemed to harden to hold back his annoyance, his lips tightly closed without the slightest smile. His eyes were deep and moving but cold. The handsome face of this man looked terrifying to Emily.

"I understand," Emily whispered.

"It's good that you understand." Finn nodded in satisfaction. "One more thing you have to remember, don't ever keep me waiting. I hate that the most."

Emily nodded slowly.

"I like people who are responsive and obedient." Finn nodded again, then let go of Emily's chin. "If you want to live in peace, follow all my orders, and you will be safe. Now eat!"

Although hesitant, Emily was forced to eat too. As much as possible, she did not want to find trouble with this man.

"Since Don has explained everything to you, I think you understand, or is there something you want to ask?"

"Nothing," Emily replied nervously.

"Then make yourself comfortable because you will stay in my place long. Remember, don't try anything! Watch your attitude and never provoke my anger."

Emily could only nod without knowing what else to say.

"Don't trouble me, and make yourself useful!" That was the last sentence Finn said before leaving the dining table.

As soon as Finn left the dining table, Emily could breathe a sigh of relief. Slowly she felt a growing hatred in her heart towards Jordie. The image of her days in this place was dim and gloomy. What kind of life awaits ahead? Emily doesn't know.

Armed with what Finn said last night, the next morning, Emily was already down looking for Martha even though it was still dark.

"Do you need anything?" said Martha when she saw Emily standing confused near the kitchen.

Emily approached Martha, who was busy peeling potatoes. "I just want to ask, what should I do, Ma'am?"

Martha smiled a little. "You don't need to do anything. Just wait in your room. I'll call you to come down when it's time for breakfast."

"Last night, the owner of this place told me to do something to make me useful."

Martha frowned, confused, hearing Emily's words. "All done by the maids, Miss."

"Then what should I do?" Emily asked angrily.

Martha looked doubtful but asked, "Can you cook?"

Emily immediately nodded. "Since the age of eleven, I've been doing it."

"Then will you help me prepare breakfast for Mr Finn?"

"So the owner of this place is Finn," Emily muttered.

"You don't know about it?" asked Martha, surprised.

Emily grinned and shook her head.

"The owner's name is Finn Harrison, Miss. You can call him Mr Finn."

After struggling long enough in the kitchen while discussing many things with Martha, Emily's feelings improved. At least there is Martha in this place who can be a friend to chat with.

"Miss, I want to deliver coffee first to Mr Finn's room," Martha said after looking at the clock.

"Just let me do it, Ma'am." Emily held Martha's hand.

Martha looked doubtful. "Mr Finn only allowed me to enter his room, but it seems you don't have a problem either."

Martha immediately stood up and then prepared coffee for Finn. When she was done, she handed the tray to Emily. "Just put it on the right side of Mr Finn's bed, then please open the bedroom curtains. After that, you can come back here."

Emily nodded in understanding.

"Try not to make noise because Mr Finn doesn't like disturbed sleep."

Emily walked up the stairs nervously. She stepped towards the door neighbouring to her room. Emily tried to do her job as ordered by Martha, to be as quiet as possible so as not to wake the man.

After everything was done, Emily glanced towards the bed. She saw that Finn was still asleep. In her heart, she hoped the man would not wake up first. Emily rushed out of Finn's room before the scary man woke up.

However, Emily immediately remembered that her tray was still on the nightstand. She quickly went back inside, to the side of the bed as quietly as possible, then bent down to pick up the tray. Unknowingly she held his breath.

It's a shame that Emily's fate is bad. Finn suddenly woke up. When he opened his eyes and saw Emily leaning close to him, Finn caught her arm by reflex. "What are you doing here?"

Seeing that Emily was silent, Finn called impatiently, "Get out of my room right now!"

Emily trembled at Finn's rebuke, and she hurriedly left the room.

Finn immediately called Martha to demand an explanation. Not long ago, the woman came with a face that looked awry.

"Martha, what's on your mind?" Finn asked furiously. "What the hell is she doing in my room?"

Martha, who was used to Finn's anger, answered calmly, "Miss Emily came to see me this morning and asked what she should do in this place."

"What should she do?" Finn muttered confusedly.

Martha immediately continued, "I told her that she doesn't need to do anything, but Miss Emily said something must be done so that her presence in this place is useful."

Instantly, Finn remembered what he said last night. It seemed that the girl had misunderstood his words.

"I'm a bit confused. So, I asked Miss Emily to help care for Mr Finn's needs."

"Then why is she dressed like a maid?" Finn asked, annoyed.

Finn had no intention of hiring Emily as a maid in his residence. He has yet to decide what job to give Emily. He's still considering everything.

"If it's about that, Miss Emily forced me to lend her a maid dress. I already said she can't wear it."

"Then why is she still wearing it?" Finn asked exasperatedly. Seeing the girl dressed as a maid made Finn feel bad.

Just keeping the girl in his place made Finn uncomfortable. He knew what kind of life Emily had led. He also knew what sort of dream had been taken from the girl by Jordie's actions. No need to make things worse by demeaning the girl in such a way. After all, Finn knew Emily didn't deserve this treatment.
