Chapter 2 Crashed

Mom would wake up early and hurry off to her shop, not bothering to prepare my little sister or myself for school and neither did she pick me up or even made lunch, daddy had to get us a bunch of snacks and candies to keep my stomach filled before she gets back home.. Daddy of course did it because he understood my mom was just excited to do something after so long.

This continued for a whole month and my dad was facing difficulties at his site because he always ended up going to work really late and sometimes he would even be absent, so he told her he was not happy with how things were going and gave mommy two alternatives; either she got a nanny for us or she plans herself properly to make sure she still continues with her usual family duties. Mommy chose to get a nanny and paid her to take care of me and my 2year old sister.

My dad was not happy but could not say a word because at least he was the one who gave her that choice.

Things continued going sideways from there on. Mommy would come in late and go out early, she barely saw us and sometimes would not see us till it was weekend. Our birthdays would pass by and she wouldn't even remember. Daddy on the other hand, tried his best and that kept us happy. My dad and I became so close that, he would sleep in my bed with me and I in bed with him, we ate from the same plate, with my sister of cos. He would even let me into the room while he was showering and that did not sit well with our mother.

Now that I think about it, it was too much but my mom knew the kind of man she married but she didn't care as her friends had put the notion in her head that my dad might be doing what he isn't supposed to do with me. She knew the man she married, yet she went to the extend of reporting the issue to my grandparents from both sides and to the police. I was asked to come to court and I did, but my testimony didn't count as my mom insisted that I had been threatened not to tell the truth. During these court sessions, my mom did not have any solid prove, but with how terrible the Nigerian Government was, my mom was seemingly winning the case. I do not know how!

My mom had left the house and my dad was traumatized. She took my sister with her and that made matters worst. It was me and my dad against it all. On days when my mom came to court with my sister, daddy said my sister had loss a lot of weight and she was looking skinny and always crying to come to him but mommy refused. I had the nanny with me at all times because while this whole drama was going on, daddy made sure I wasn't affected. But all that didn't last.

As on my dad's return from the court one fateful morning, he crashed into a truck and his car was crushed under this truck and he died on the spot. Daddy left that morning and never came back. I was just 8 and I had not only lost a family, a sister, but also my father, the man who took care of me all my life, who would bathe me in the morning, do the nonsense he did on my hair, stand up for me. I had lost my everything and it was my mother's fault.
