Chapter 4 A new dress, a new day

Teresa was running at a full speed towards the mansion for her job interview. They had had three rounds of interviews already while Teresa was at the hospital. This was the last one that they were holding. After this no more applications would be taken. Teresa was hence running as if her life depended on it. All the applicants that already been sent their future uniforms and they were expected to come for the interview in them. The girl had given her's to Teresa. Though the girl had the same built as Teresa, she was a little shorter.

Hence, even though the dress fit her perfectly, Teresa had to keep pulling her skirt down. It barely covered her buttocks and as she ran , it kept moving up.

The mansion was just around the signal. She stamped her feet as she waited for the lights to turn green.

"Stop doing that. Aren't you a young lady? " An old woman standing beside Teresa scolded her for stamping so loud.

However it had a very different effect on Teresa. She marvelled at her for being called a young lady.

" Wow. Does clothes have such great power. All my life I have been a hag, scumbag, rascal. As soon as I put this on, I became a young lady. It's magical. Wow! I already love it so much. " She smiled a warm and broad smile at the old woman and then crossed the road dancing. She was so happy, she didn't notice she was going outside the zebra crossing and almost bumped on the car that was coming. She was lucky as it was already slowing down due to the red traffic signal for the cars. But she did hit the front of the car with her knees.

" Ouch!" She exclaimed, bending over to massage her knees.

The car doors immediately opened and a tall, young man came out from it. He approached Teresa urgently and pulled her inside his car.

Teresa was taken a back.

"What just happened? " She thought, " Am I being kidnapped? "Her mind was all over the place. "Damn! I knew I couldn't be so lucky. There goes my interview and there goes my dream job" She signed heavily.

The car pulled over at the corner and the man pulled Teresa out by the hands. He then opened his jacket and came forward. Teresa was pressed against the car door so she had no place to move. The man put his hands around Teresa and tied the jacket at her waist.

" How dare you wear this dress like this. You want to show the world your butt you go do that some place else. How dare you let people speculate wearing this dress like that. Keep this jacket on till you take this uniform off. I don't want any dirty gossip around the town for a filth like you. " He pulled Teresa away from his car and drove off.

Teresa looked around, trying to understand what had just happened. But she looked at the broken watch the girl had given her. She still had time for the interview. She looked around her and found she was standing the beside the entrance. So without wasting anymore time, she ran inside at full speed. The jacket covering her well and she did so. She no longer had to keep pulling or worrying about exposing herself. She felt happy again. There were too many good things happening to her one after the other. She didn't know who she should be thankful too. She felt so happy, she felt like giving everyone around a good tight hug.

After entering the mansion Teresa's jaws dropped open. It was huge. So huge the ends could not be seen from one angle.

"It is big enough for the entire town to live in. I can't believe only one family lives here. Is this what the rich call a home? It looks like a entire kingdom to me, " Teresa was laughing at her own thoughts as she lined up behind the others.

" What's so funny? " Asked a very feminine but male and stern voice from behind. It was Dusty, walking around with his favorite stick, checking on the applicants before the interview started.

"Oh! Me? Nothing. Nothing is funny. I was just marveling at the size of the place. It's huge. Too big for just one family. " Teresa said bluntly. She hadn't learnt to make things up or lie. Back at the orphanage, they burnt the tongues of those who lied. So Teresa always came with the truth, even though it lead to some other punishment.

" Is it? " Dusty asked with a smirk. Then turning at the other applicants, asked out aloud, " This young lady over here, thinks this place is too big for just one family. How many of you agree? Raise your hands. "

Nobody moved or replied. Dusty marched in front of the line and repeated himself, this time louder, " I think you ladies had problem listening to my question.I will repeat myself. How many of you agree that this place is too big for just one family?"

The result was the same. Nobody moved. None replied. Only Teresa kept turning around looking at them. Dusty then pointed his cane at Teresa and asked, " You over there, do you still stick to your observation even though no one else here agrees to that? "

" Yes! From where I come. From my perspective, this place can accommodate the entire town. " Teresa replied without a hint of fear or hesitation.

Dusty silently walked upto her and whispered in her ears, "Do you see that door? "

Teresa nodded in the affirmative.

" Good. Now walk straight inside and do not look back. " Dusty ordered and then turned to face the others.

Teresa didn't pay much attention to what it implied. She never paid any attention to implications. She just followed the order and walked right in.

The door locked itself shut behind her with a loud clap.

Teresa felt her soul was about to jump right out of her mouth.
