Chapter 4 Forgiveness

Kelvin quickly checked to get her pulse. She was still breathing and he hurriedly lifted her into his car. The driver called on him as he wanted to help but Kelvin declined and zoomed off as fast as he could go. Ella had lost so much blood from the accident. On reaching the hospital, she was rushed to the emergency unit. Kelvin on the other hand was asked to wait in the waiting room.

In John's apartment, he was sitting on the couch with his face buried in his palms. He was devastated and couldn't move, the incident kept replaying in his head. He had been so selfish but he hoped she'd pull through.

After several hours of waiting, the doctor came to inform Kelvin they were off the danger zone and sooner than later she would regain consciousness. He was so relieved and asked if he could see her. He was let into the ward where she was laid, he took few steps towards her, she was more beautiful than the stars in the sky, his eyes suddenly became filled with tears. He reached out for her hands and as he held them, he cried profusely as he let out all his pain. He excused himself to go back home and change while hoping for Ella to wake up.

He got home and realized an unusual quietness. The compound was untidy and he knew at this point everything was not fine. He got in and found out that his parents had received his test result. "Kelvin" his mother called walking up to him "what is this?" she asked as tears came flowing down her cheeks, he came closer and hugged her as they both shed tears. His father was seated on the dining chair starring at them, he expressed his pain with deep sighs, holding those tears because as a young boy growing up, he was taught not to cry in front of people. "Dad" Kelvin called, releasing his mum from his arms and walking up to his father. He knelt down in front of his father, "I am sorry dad" he said crying "I didn't know the cancer had eaten deep due to my lifestyle after I left home, I didn't plan to die or leave you soon, I wish I could undo the harm I have caused" he held his father's hands. "I guess I failed as a father, I should have stopped you when you opted to leave, but I was too busy fighting your mum" he said. He stood up and went into his room. "Lunch is served, Kelvin. Please, do well to eat " she said.

She went into the room where Kelvin's dad was. "We failed, I am so sorry" she said walking up to her husband. His head was bowed down, as he lifted his head his eyes were filled with tears, "we should have known God earlier, the devil came to our home and we let him" he said. He was losing control over his emotions and was already crying like a child, she hugged him tightly. "God never leaves His people halfway" she told him and caressed him softly. She looked at the sky from the window "he is too faithful to fail" she murmured while placing her head on her husband's own.

Kelvin ate and had a good shower. He dressed in a black pant and vintage shirt, he was indeed a fine man. He went and knocked on his parent's door. "Come in" his mother said. "Mum, Ella was hit by a vehicle, I am leaving to see how she is doing", "I am so sorry, K. She would be better, she is healed in Jesus name" they both echoed "Amen". "Will you be fine considering your health?" she asked Kelvin, He hugged her "yes mum, thank you so much". He left their room and took his car keys heading for the hospital. As he drove off, he prayed for Ella wondering what he would do if he lost her.

As he drove in he couldn't help but notice the part nature played in the surroundings of the hospital, beautiful flowers and trees, it was a beauty to behold, he got out from his car and walked into the hospital, everywhere was less rowdy unlike when he brought Ella in, he walked to the Nurse and told her he wanted to see a patient named Ella Mills, she asked if he knew the ward she was admitted in after checking the records that he was family. He walked in to see Ella awake with the Doctor who was checking her progress, "Ella!" he ran and hugged her. "Easy, Kelvin" she chuckled,

They both smiled at each other. "Doctor tell me, how is she is doing, hope no bleeding anywhere?" he asked,

"No organ was affected, but we couldn't help notice her ruptured womb, it was terrible we had to remove it completely, from the look of things she must have had a terrible accident in the past" the Doctor replied.

"What? Me!, ruptured womb? I have only had series of pains and that accident was years ago, the doctor...." She paused and cast her mind back to when her and John had the accident after they got married newly. The doctor told her everything was fine then, and she never got pregnant or even miscarried. The puzzle began to fit in her head. John knew she couldn't get pregnant again, so he made the doctor lie to her, ensured she never went elsewhere apart from that doctor and when he couldn't endure her being childless by the accident which he caused, he divorced her.

"Ella, are you okay" Kelvin asked. "John! John!!" she screamed trying to get out of the bed but was stopped by Kelvin who held her tightly, she was immediately sedated by the Doctor. "She needs to be closely monitored, I would send a Nurse to her" the Doctor said. "Thank you" Kelvin replied.

Kelvin waited till Ella woke up, he wasn't going to leave her, he figured John had a hand in her situation, he was dying and wasn't ready to leave without saying goodbye to the woman he cherished.

"K!" Ella called out, he looked at her, "I am sorry I didn't control my emotions earlier, the pain was so much" she said crying. He caressed her hair "talk to me, what exactly happened?",

"John and I had an accident after we newly got married, he was tipsy but insisted on driving, I couldn't drive then but I suggested we called a taxi and then come back for the car in the morning, he claimed it would be stolen, the eatery had a parking lot but he refused and yelled at me insisting he was fine to take us home". "He started driving and he hit a stationary truck, the effect was bad, he wasn't so affected but I was, I couldn't walk for three months after which I was discharged but was on bed rest, but I kept feeling pain in my lower abdomen and my sides but the doctor assured me I was fine, year in year out, no child, I was getting tired and opted to see another doctor but he said it would complicate things that our doctor was well experienced". "Here I am" she chuckled as tears filled her eyes,

"I have been robbed of everything, John Richie is..." Kelvin hugged her before she could complete her statement "I love and cherish you, please live for me" she cried the more hearing those words. Ella and Kelvin grew fond of each other every day, she let go of the memories of John and all the hurtful things she passed through with him. They went to church more often, Ella had met Kelvin's parents officially, she was already family to them. She knew peace. She was surprised Kelvin came to work for her company when he had their family company, his humility was to be admired.

On a bright Tuesday morning, Kelvin was getting ready to leave with his dad for the office, he got a text from Ella requesting a date that night. He smiled at himself like he won a lottery. He couldn't wait for evening time.

Meanwhile, Ella was in high spirit listening to "beautiful people" by Ed Sheeran while writing the script for her upcoming movie. The door bell ranged and she went to get it. She opened the door only to see John. "What are you doing here?" she asked coldly. He broke down on his knees begging for forgiveness, "My fiancée has been in labor for five days now, please forgive me and help me please" he pleaded crying,

"You mean our account officer you were screwing while we were still married" she chuckled. "You really have the nerve to show up in my house after destroying my life, left me with no womb or a name of my own, took all my hard work and you ask for forgiveness". She went in angrily and took the water which she used in mopping the floor and poured on him.
