She didn't get the chance to find out how bad or good she was at turning the world of a prince upside-down after all. At least not that day. After they decided to find the prince and know what's going on with Erîmí – the old name given to the wild lighting. she had wanted to go immediately but was told flatly by Durkjola that they didn't know where the prince was and they will have to wait to find him through the "Internet"
Adike knew what the Internet was of course – every watcher and it seems to watch lord's only daughter was taught about the human world since most of the battles with the demons that manage to breach the portal happened here in the human world. All watch lords trained their watchers on how to live like a human in the human world, which includes the Internet, driving cars, and the lay of the land.
Even though her father put certain boundaries on where she could go because of her mother she was still taught all that need to be taught to be a watcher – after all, she was a watch lord's daughter, only daughter.
"We should spar while waiting for the result of the search for the prince. " Sito had faced the demonslayar in a short staring contest after he insisted on being part of Adike's guard till she leaves the human realm for their own. He had won, it seem she saw reason in what he said. Adike was impressed – the Demonslayer was a hard woman, a woman of power, even her ice power is impressive, she could the feel the vibration in the air, but then Sito was also going to be a commander of the West Watchers.
" Thank you, Sito but I'll rather not, besides there is no time. What's the use when will be going out now?" Adike didn't feel like sparring, not here with all those watchers, staring and summing her up. Which she knew was Sito's intention, he often told her that a commander cannot just stay in his castle and give command but had to mix in with the troops, she always countered that he was the commander in training, not her.
"I wonder what happened ", Ola said, eyes glowing faintly as she makes small ice spears no longer than her middle finger, the end deadly thin. Sharp is enough to kill if enough force was but behind it. "The Erîmî was agitated, it almost looked like it would breakthrough. "
Adike opened her mouth to reply but was beat to it by Yina who was at parade rest at the door – back straight, hand beside him, free from any weapons, all the more to call magic since the sword was last resort for watchers.
"The magic worked by the Watch Lords was too powerful for even the mighty Erîmî to breakthrough", he paused, then continued in his flat voice. "Maybe not powerful enough since we are here to kidnap the only one who can tame it. "
He raised his eyebrows at the last part then continue to look straight forward, seemingly to have said his own and no longer interested in what was going on in the room. Adike wasn't convinced – not of Yina's disinterest in what was going on in the room nor with the Witch Lord's power in keeping the wild lighting at bay from the human world, yes the Witch Lord's were powerful with their special powers that other watchers can only dream of having but without the Lightbringer to complete the binding with their lighting element, it can't be as strong as it should be – not strong enough to stop an angry magical sentient.
"Every Watcher knew a binding can't be completed without all the five elements, we have to to have the prince in case". She said before Ola can have a chance to start a roll with her captain. She moved to the books arranged neatly on the shelves, moving her hand along their spine like old lovers, and indeed they were in some ways since she had taken to reading books to shut up the flood of guilt inside her. Guilt was born fourteen years ago when her mother died – when she... She forced her mental door shut, NO! She won't think about it!
An unfamiliar hum in the air distracted her from her thoughts, she looked at Ola and Yina who are now both standing in a defensive posture – they must have also caught the powerful vibration. It hum of two power is woven together which can only mean one thing – A twin watcher
The door opened, Durkjola came in eyes glowing cold blue, followed swiftly by a tall man. If the hum of his power is not enough to say where he was from the silver and black he wore and, the lighting symbol in his right chest proclaim him as a Twin Watcher.
Adike stared because standing in front of her was not an ordinary Twin Watcher but a legend, the second commander of the Twin Watchers – Warwick Xanto. He was old, his power white hair was swept in a severe ponytail, his eyes one golden red and the other yellow sparkled with a hint of dry humor. Adike can't believe what she was seeing! Warwick Xanto had to be taken to the air during the war and killed the Watch King.
"It's an honor to meet you, my lady". Xanto's voice is light and airy like one of the elements he commands. He gave her a courtly bow. Adike regained her wits in time to return the bow – her own was less graceful.
"Am surprised you were sent this far west, commander". Durkjola's voice was smooth.
" Ah", Xanto raised his grey slender brows. "The famous Demonslayer, it's an honor to meet you I believe. "
"No as famous for killing the last Watch King it seems." She raised her brows.
Xanto laughed, his eyes sparkling. He looked at Adike and said. "Hopefully the next one won't be killed, which would lower my reputation greatly."
"The next one? " Adike said
Xanto raised his shoulder. "Who knows what would happen in the future? "
So it had started, as her father said it would when the news of the prince was made public – side would be chosen but who would remember to choose the human realm in the game that is being laid down? She asked what she knew must have brought him here.
"Why are you here commander?" Her voice was formal.
He gave her an inquiry look before answering.
"The council was called today when your father the West Watch Lord called a meeting of the Watch Lord to let us know that he had discovered the lost last Watch Prince," He paused, perhaps to see her reaction – she gave nothing away. "The council had met and this is the decree of the council by the majority; The prince shall be left alone but guarded in the human realm and should in no circumstances told about the Ànjanu realm. "
She felt her heartbeat faster, she cursed herself inwardly when the temperature in the room drop slightly. So the Watch Lords were too blinded by hate to see that the only way to stop the wild lightning was to use the prince. She looked at the commander, whose face was closed, and wonder what he thought of this since the prince discovery affected them the most but then she remembered the Twin Watcher she had found with the prince earlier – looks like her father was not the first to find the prince after all, if not then what is the Centre game?
Xanto gave her a bow, nodded to others in the room and made his way to the door, stopped, and said. "The lord minister of the light city sends his greeting."
It was clear who the legendary Warwick Xanto supported after all.
