Katherine's POV
Katherine Stone heaved a deep breath. Adjusting her round framed glasses, she took one last long look at her reflection in the mirror. Her black, thick, voluminous hair was rounded up in a small bun and pinned back by several bobby pins. Her eyes highlighted by a subtle black liner and her lips coated by a layer of gloss. She ran her hands down the blouse she was wearing and her eyes travelled over the simple dress pants and platform loafers. She smiled and got ready to head out.
She was very excited because she had been scheduled for an interview at literally the best corporation in the world, Ultron group of companies. They were a multi billion dollar corporation that dealt in many things ranging from gadgets to transportation.
Her obsession for Ultron had grown since when she was in college. She had learnt about them and then read about them in her free time. She also follows them on social media and she is deeply interested in their activities. She promised herself she was going to work there one day, so when the opportunity presented itself, she jumped at it.
She had applied for the position of an office assistant to the Chief Financial Officer and she had been asked to come in for a physical interview.
The new CEO, Ryan Sanders was quite literally the hottest CEO out there. She had seen so many pictures of him on business today magazine. She had also seen the numerous pictures of him with different women every Sunday. He changed them like suits on a rack. His philandering aside, he was really good at his job. She wondered if she would get to meet him here at the NewYork office.
Her excitement twisted into nervousness as the taxi drew to a halt at the front of the intimidating building. It stood tall and proud against the brightly lit sky. She checked the time on her phone, she was a bit early so she decided to get a cup of coffee and a sweet treat to push back the nerves.
She walked quickly across the block and right across the street was a coffee shop. It was packed but no surprises there, it's 8am in the morning. Everyone needed their daily dose of coffee. She waited for about fifteen minutes and it was finally her turn to order.
"I'll have an iced americano with a shot of espresso and the sweetest slice of dessert you have. She took it in a to-go bag and walked back out. She turned the corner and tried to cross the street when a car came out of nowhere and headed straight for her.
She froze and everything in her hand dropped to the floor. She stood there, cursing her instincts for betraying her and wondering if this was the pathetic way in which her life would come to an end.
"Are you INSANE?" The deep scolding voice jarred her out of her trance and her knees immediately felt like overcooked pudding.
Her brain reminded her that she was still alive and she saw that the car had stopped right in front of her, she also saw that her americano and sugared lemon tart had wasted away on the ground.
"I am talking to you, if you are trying to get yourself killed, do not do it with my car alright? It is worth way more than your life"
She looked up then. The arrogant voice came from an arrogant mouth that was attached to an even more arrogant yet handsome face. She did not like this man.
Katherine pointed sharply to the pedestrian signal.
"It said walk. I walked. You sir, just tried to kill me with your stupid car" she said, her hands taut at her hips.
"And the next bright idea after you saw the car was to freeze like a deer in headlights? Why didn't you get off the road? Are you one of those insurance scammers trying to make a quick buck? Your mates are working proper jobs. Do better!" He was all up in her face.
What the fuck?
Who the hell was he?
Katherine scoffed and had to fight the urge to kick him in his nuts and pull his soft looking hair out of his stubborn scalp
"You were at fault, apologize now while I am being kind." she said wondering what she did to deserve this morning. All she wanted was to attend her interview...OH SNAP!
She whipped her wrist up to check the time and realised she had forgotten to wear a watch. Without thinking, she grabbed his hand, turned it around and looked at his watch.
"Oh no. I am almost late for my interview. I hope you have a terrible day" she grabbed her bag off the floor silently mourning the breakfast she had been looking forward to and ran off leaving him standing there with his mouth open and arm raised.
She dashed into the office building, she was even more on edge than when she originally arrived and she could only blame that jerk for it. She remembered his mouth as he berated her. The curve of his upper lip beneath his deep philtrum as he sneered.
Why the hell am I over-analysing his lips right now. Focus.
Just then, a lady walked over to her where she was seated.
"Miss Stone, you may go through for your interview. If you take the elevator to the top floor, your interview will be held in the conference room. Good luck." she said and gestured towards the elevators.
Katherine wasted no time. She said thank you and followed the directions carefully. The huge magnificent oak doors of the conference room sent a chill down her spine. She knocked and walked in. There was a man and two women who welcomed her warmly and the interview started in earnest.
Thirty minutes later and she was feeling pretty confident with her performance. They had bright smiles.
"I must admit Miss stone. You are extremely perfect for the job. I look forward to working with you.
Two firm handshakes later and she was walking with her head high and high spirits. They walked her to the elevator. That was quite literally the easiest interview she had ever participated in.
"All correspondence will be sent to you by email. We hope to see you at work on Monday"
"Thank you so much for the opportunity" Katherine was ecstatic. She didn't expect to nail the interview but then, she had to admit, she was excellent at her job.
The ding announced the arrival of an elevator and the doors opened. Katherine could not believe her eyes. Mr. Arrogant was coming out from the elevator flanked on both sides by serious looking men.
"Oh aren't you lucky. Miss stone, meet Mr Sanders, the new CEO"
Katherine swallowed. She certainly was not feeling very lucky.
All of a sudden, she was aware of the fact that Mr Sanders was much taller than she was as he looked down at her with a smug smirk on his face.
