When the burden gets too heavy on Kithara, will she run or will she take her rightful place as the one with this certain boy to rule their town?

Chapter 1 In The Woods

Ever had your life blown in your face, ever felt so not in control of your life? Kithara was going through worse. A total breakdown was an under exaggeration.

"Dad, you've got to be shitting me, really", Kithara said, very much exasperated.

"Language" Her mum cut in.

"Mum, help me out here, this is some kind of prank or joke right, haha, you guys got me there" Kithara looked over at her mum, who was her saving grace in rare situations like this, but when she saw the wry and soft look on her mum's face not breaking into a sweet smile, she knew she had lost that war.

"Honey, we know it seems impromptu..."

"Seems? It is!" Kithara scoffed.

"Tone, young lady" Her Dad said strictly. He was never so serious.

"It's very valid to be very angry, but we have no choice, Moving was also a huge decision we also had to come to terms with, but our decisions are only for the betterment of this family..."

Urghh, the speech.

"Trust me, you are all going to love this new town"

Kithara knew it was mere consolation.

Who tells their children that they are moving in two days from a town where they were born and brought up, over breakfast? Mr and Mrs Campbell.

Kithara would have sworn that she didn't see such tornado of information heading her direction as she agreed for the girls' night in to be at her place by weekend over the text message just few minutes ago, or when she had said yes to Damon, the boy she had been pining for since she could say 'jack', they weren't even two weeks into their dating, and this? The School year was about to kick start, and Ketara had been really excited since there was going to be a lot of gossip flying around school after the just concluded summer camp where shit went down for Booklyn High students.

Sophomore year had been a blast and Kithara had planned to make yet another wave in school by returning to school with the town's heartthrob as her boyfriend. She had planned the utmost power couple entrance with even a playlist in mind!

Kithara wished it were a huge nightmare she was stuck in. She wanted to wake up at all costs.

Kithara looked over at her siblings for support, but who was she kidding? Simone, her elder sister by two years, was busy with her phone, probably informing her 'followers' of the new development, and Theo, her younger brother by six years, focused solely on looking amused at the sliced onions in his plate.

Her Elder sister really didn't care about her location, because she just graduated freshly out of high school and she was taking a gap year to pursue her writing, something about being the 'lady whistledown' of the twenty-first century. Kithara knew that this gap year was going to lead to another gap year, and another year and many more gap years because she could swear that Simone was not college material. And for what it was worth, Simone wrote so well that even Julia Quinn would have to give her her flowers; there was really no use going to college.

Her younger brother just didn't care; he was too cut off from the world to even care, and he really just cared about his science fiction and anime episodes. If he were to choose to be home-schooled instead, of course, he would not care.

Kithara felt suffocated all of a sudden. Her sister didn't really have a physical presence; she was mostly existing on social media, while her brother was antisocial, and her parents wanted to uproot her from her roots. She felt it was cruel and unfair.

She shoved food into her mouth, but it was bland and very unappealing.

"I'll sit this breakfast out" Kithara dropped her cutlery on the plate and stormed out of the family breakfast.

She ran into her room and crawled into her bed. She was most afraid that her nightmares were coming true slowly. She would have to deal with being in a new town and hiding her deep secret away from her family as well.

In full panic mode, she texted the girls. Her two best friends with whom she was joined at the hip since birth.

Kithara: Guys, I'm losing my shit right now, smh

Louisa: Spill!

Cassie: Where are you?

Kithara forced a depressed smile as she read their immediate reply. She was going to miss their sorry asses. This was just too much to take in, too fast, things were moving just too fast.

As if on cue, her phone buzzed. A WhatsApp group call from the girls.

She swiped to the green call sign and placed the phone on a phone holder at her bedside stool.

"Hey, " she held her breath for a while as she saw their familiar faces pop up on her screen.

Louisa was packing her dark locs into a bun in a background that Kithara was sure was her room, while Cassie was sitting on her front porch, and she could see clearly.

"Spill" Louisa leaned forward into the camera, her eyes deep with concern, "you never send distress texts, what's up"

"Yeah, spill", Cassie seconded, "Those puffy eyes I see? Want us to come over?"

Kithara pinched her nose and held her head backwards as she held back her tears; they were effortlessly concerned, and she never really thought much of it till the bombshell was dropped on her.

"Okay, that's it, we are pulling up at your place right now, right Cassie?" Louisa stood up and walked out of the camera's view. Kithara could hear the shuffles. She knew Louisa was ready to pull up at her window, throwing stones at her window.

"Yeah, I'll just grab my keys"

"Guys, calm down", Kithara, who was trying every possible way of remaining sane, said with a quivering voice.

"Kitty" Louisa reappeared at the camera, her expression softening.

"Mum and Dad just broke the news during breakfast, we are moving"

"Damn!"

"We can always just drive by, is it far on the outskirts?"

"No, guys, " her voice broke. "We're moving states"

"Holy Sh*t"

"God, no, what?!"

"We definitely are coming over!"
