About

A year ago, Ava Monroe was found dead at the bottom of a cliff. Her body was burned beyond recognition. Her husband, billionaire Ethan Cross, buried her quietly and moved on-cold, distant, and untouched by grief. But Ava didn't die even though her best friend pushed her off that cliff... and Ethan knew. Now, Ava returns. Not as herself-but as Rina Blake, a quiet and low-profile designer with a new face, a new name, and a hidden agenda. Thanks to a secret medical program that saved her life, Ava has one mission: make everyone who wronged her pay. She starts by getting hired at Cross Corporation under Ethan himself-who doesn't recognize her, yet is strangely drawn to her. He's colder than ever, surrounded by lies, and engaged to her best friend-now his fiancée. As Rina earns his trust, she uncovers secret after secret: a hidden child she never knew she had, a secret lab her death was meant to cover up, and a twisted family inheritance that's tied to her "accident." And the worst shock of all? Ethan may not be the villain she thought he was. In fact, he might have been the only person trying to protect her... from the real enemies in his own family. But it's too late. The web is tangled. Her heart is confused. Her identity is fake. And someone else is watching her closely-someone who knows who she really is, and wants her dead for real this time. Will Ava get her revenge and reclaim her life-or will her second chance be the end of her all over again?

Chapter 1 Oblivion

Ava sighed in relief as she admired the dress design on her sketch pad. It was simply breathtaking, and to her, it had to be the most beautiful she had ever made.

Business was going well, as all her designs were always top-notch, none lagged. She yawned, rising up from her seat and walking towards the glass, staring at the skyscrapers.

These days, she didn't even have time to go home as she was hell-bent on finishing the design. Inspiration for the dress had come when she sat near a fountain and watched how the water flowed out beautifully. It was weird, right?

"What name to give you." She tapped her chin thoughtfully.

"Ethereal night flow." Her eyes brightened.

All that was left was to make the dress. She had called her assistant to get them, she didn't find the process hard as it was something she loved doing.

For this dress, she'd make just five pieces and it would be sold out in no time. But for now, she had to rest cause she really needed it.

She picked up her phone, with the intention to call Ethan, her husband, but she had second thoughts.

Their relationship these days had been growing quite distant, and she wasn't okay with it. She tried to blame it on work as both of them were always busy, but deep down, she knew it wasn't just "work"

Her husband was the infamous Ethan Smart, the CEO of Cross corporation, a top-tech, multibillionaire. He had been engrossed in work these days, that he most times forgot to call which was not so before.

Ethan called every single hour, but all that had changed. Something was obviously off, and Ava could feel it.

"He would be busy now." She muttered, giving herself little hope.

Then her phone chimed, and with the speed of light, she picked it up deeply hoping that Ethan had sent a message. But to her dismay, it wasn't him.

It was an anonymous sender, with no number attached to it. She clicked on it, and several messages popped up:

"I know everything."

"The secret lab, and the software project."

"And I must say, you're a good one. It wouldn't have being a success without you."

"I guess you know how much that lab and everything in it is worth. And I bet you've got your eyes in it, greedy little Ava. But I assure you, you don't need it and I'll make sure you don't come anywhere near it, EVER."

Ava raised a brow, stunned. Was this a kind of joke or something?

It definitely had to be a prank, from one of her co-workers at the underground tech lab. Her rosy lips spread into a wide grin, as she tried to guess who it might be.

"Oh! I'm scared." She texted back with a chuckle.

Whoever sent this was really good at playing pranks, for a moment, she was a bit scared.

She dropped the phone as she dragged her legs towards the bathroom in her office.

"AHH!" Her palm landed on her cheeks as she stared at her reflection in the mirror.

Her long, brown hair was all over the place looking more like a bird's nest. Her eyes looked puffy as a result of half-baked sleep.

"Tch." Her tongue clicked.

As if it wasn't enough that she looked like something that had been brought out of a bin, her stomach grumbled reminding her of her poor diet habits the past few days.

Ava contemplated on eating first, or freshening up. Eventually, she chose the latter. As she walked towards the fridge to find some to munch on, her phone rang.

She rolled her eyes in frustration as she walked back to the desk as it was closer, and picked up her phone. It was Celeste, her best friend, calling.

"Cele." She called fondly.

"Bestie!" Celeste's sweet voice rang out excitedly, "I've told you to stop calling me that. It's cringe."

"Whatever. So what do I owe this call from her highness?" Ava drawled.

"You're a clown Ava!" Celeste laughed sweetly, "Anyways, I called because I've got something for you. I booked a trip to Carmel's resort, one of the best private resorts ever!"

Ava paused, saying nothing. It was obvious that she felt reluctant about it, going on outings wasn't really her thing. And besides, she had been feeling weird around Celeste and she felt bad for tha

"Come on." Celeste groaned, "Don't say no. You've been buried in your work even though you don't need it. You have everything you need, your husband is ETHAN SMART, and he's the-"

"Alright, alright. I'll go. So when do we leave?" Ava asked, cutting her short.

If she didn't, she'd have to listen to her friend's endless rant on the story of her life.

"Great! You're the best, Ava. I'll send you the location now. Come with your Lamborghini pleaseee." Celeste whined.

"Yeah, yeah." Ava rolled her eyes.

"Shouldn't you come to pick me instead?" Ava frowned.

"That would ruin the surprise. Just come over quickly. The earlier the better."

"Alright, see you later."

"Love yo-"

Ava disconnected the call. This wasn't the weekend she planned for, but she knew how Celeste could be. She groaned continuously as she brushed, showered and got dressed.

Entering the car, she kicked whatever her leg met. She didn't know she could get this irritated. She followed the location and within thirty minutes, she arrived at the resort which looked deserted and separated from the rest of the world.

She frowned as she walked up the resort which stood on top of a cliff. She dialled Celeste's number immediately, but there was no phone service. For no reason, a feeling of dread engulfed her.

Ava wondered if there was another building below the cliff, as resorts were always built uniquely. She made sure she didn't lean too forward as she looked down. She gasped as she saw her deep the cliff was, there were no buildings.

She immediately took a step backwards, and as she turned-a pair of well-manicured hands pushed her off.
