"We've been together for ten years, Demian, and we already have Nathan as the successor to your family business, what more do you expect?"
Elena's world seemed to stop spinning when she heard everything. Nathan, the child who was adopted ten years ago, turned out not to be someone else's child but Demian's child with another woman, Bianca, his friend.
"I know, but I can't just divorce him. Give me time, I'll make sure to divorce him, sooner or later."
Bruk.
Demian's answer surprised Elena, making the food box in her hand fall, making a loud enough noise.
"Did you hear that? There seems to be someone outside," Bianca's voice sounded panicked.
Hearing footsteps approaching the door, with trembling hands, Elena grabbed the food box and quickly ran away.
Arriving at home, Elena threw herself on the bed. What she heard broke her heart. She squeezed the pillow, holding back the scream she didn't want to hear.
In the past, when she felt sad, Demian would be by her side, comforting her until her feelings improved. But now, even if he came with a million words of comfort, it would never change anything.
The man she once kneeled before, and with all his sweet promises on the altar of marriage, she had already betrayed with a betrayal.
Tired, Elena finally fell asleep with tears still wet on her cheeks.
When she woke up, she felt a strong hand hugging her body, followed by a soft kiss on her forehead. Without opening her eyes, Elena knew it was Demian. The scent of her husband's perfume was too distinctive to be unrecognized.
In the past, this hug would have made her feel comfortable.
But now, it felt like a thorn piercing right into her heart.
What Elena wants to do now is to break free from Demian's embrace.
"Are you home? "Elena asked, forcing herself to smile. She opened her eyes slowly.
"Yes," Demian replied softly. "What's wrong? Are you sad?"
Elena hurriedly wiped away the tears that remained in the corners of her eyes.
"No, I'm fine. I... miss my parents, "she replied briefly, her voice trembling.
She immediately got out of bed, keeping her distance from Demian.
She no longer wanted to be in the arms of the man who had betrayed her.
"Do you want to visit their graves?" Demian asked, watching Elena.
Elena, who was standing in front of the bathroom door, gave a slight smile.
"Yes... maybe later," she replied briefly before going inside and closing the door, giving Demian no chance to speak again.
Behind the bathroom door, Elena leaned back. She could no longer hold back her tears when she remembered the happiness that had now been destroyed.
Before long, the sound of her cell phone and footsteps approaching the bathroom door slightly distracted her.
"Elena, I have to go. There is important work I have to do, "Demian said after he knocked on the bathroom door.
"Yes, be careful on the road," Elena replied, holding back her tears.
Demian's footsteps were heard walking away shortly. Elena opened the door, entered the bedroom window, and drew the curtains.
From there, she saw Demian leaving the house, passing through the gate with his car.
Her feelings told her Demian was going to meet Bianca.
Quickly, Elena grabbed her bag and followed Demian.
Demian's car stopped in front of Nathan's school.
Elena saw Nathan and Bianca standing in front of the school gate from a distance, waiting casually.
When Demian got out and opened the car door, they got in immediately, looking so intimate.
"Is this what you call important work? How stupid of me to always believe everything you say, Demian," Elena muttered, continuing to look at the man she loved, the child she cared for with all her heart, and the friend she trusted.
A second later, a message came through to her cell phone.
"I'm going home with Grandma. Mom doesn't need to pick me up."
From Nathan's message, Elena could conclude that the child was part of their lie.
Elena clutched her cell phone tightly, trying to calm herself before replying.
In a flat voice, she sent a voice message. "Yes, take good care of yourself there with Grandma, okay?" Sending the message.
Message sent, Nathan immediately listened to the message from his mother.
"As always, Mom always believes what I say. You have to give me a gift."
Bianca and Demian smiled proudly.
"Mama's boy is great, now what do you want for a gift? "Bianca asked.
"I want chocolate, and lots of candy," Nathan replied.
"Mom forbids you to eat candy and chocolate, Nathan," Demian warned.
"Dad, why are you like mom who always forbids me to eat chocolate and candy? I'm fine, Dad." Nathan looked angry.
Bianca rubbed Nathan's head, 'Don't listen to your father; he's just afraid of your mother. Now there is Mama Bianca who will obey your every wish."
"Thank you, Mama. You are the best for Nathan,' Nathan replied happily.
Elena had now returned home, standing and staring at the frame of a photo of her family smiling happily.
In a low voice, she said, "If you can live happily without me, why can't I?"
Elena picked up the photo frame and took it to the backyard. There, she set the photo frame and several other photos on fire.
"You will disappear from my life, like these photos, burning to dust."
Elena smiled as she thought of a plan for revenge.
When night fell, Elena prepared her husband and son's favourite meal. She tried to act as if she knew nothing, but her cell phone vibrated before she could serve it.
A message appeared on the screen:
"Nathan and I won't be home tonight. There's something mom wants to talk to me about."
The message was sent by her husband, Demian.
Elena was silent, her heart filled with suspicion. She took her cell phone and called her mother-in-law to ensure everything was okay.
"Mom, are Demian and Nathan there? "she asked, trying to remain calm.
"Yes, they are here. There is something I want to talk to them about. They will be back tomorrow," her mother-in-law replied flatly.
Elena felt a little calmer this time. Her husband was telling the truth, and her mother-in-law's answer slightly dispelled her suspicions.
"All right, ma'am. Thank you."
At the same time, another woman's voice was heard in the background. "Mom, dinner's ready."
