"I, Alpha Aiden, reject my mate Pearl." Aiden's voice filled with indifference, doused Pearl with cold water, as she stared at him with disbelief and heartache.
Three years... she had chased him for three years. And yet not once did he look at her. She watched in despair as he walked away from her and stood beside her stepsister Lucy, who looked at Pearl with an angelic smile.
"Sister, it is time that you learn, some things aren't yours even if you want them to be."
"But he is my mate!" Pearl shouted in despair, her body started to ache as the waves of pain took over her body. The Pain of rejection...
It was difficult for her to even stand, and yet Pearl didn't want to give up.
'Just this once... I want to fight with my destiny... I love Aiden.. Please, Aiden, don't choose her over me.'
A glint flashed in Lucy's eyes as she teared up and sobbed softly,
"Sister, please restrain your fury. I know you can't bear the thought that Alpha Aiden is standing with me and not you, but this is the truth. Maybe there is some kind of mistake by the moon goddess, or did you use the forbidden magic recently circulating to force this mate bond?"
Lucy's words made everyone's face turn pale, and even Aiden's face turned dark as he growled.
"Before, I thought Pearl was just dumb and vicious, but now? She is a criminal!"
"She should be punished! What if others follow her example?"
Tears started to drip from Lucy's eyes as she shook her head,
"Please don't punish my sister! She has just made a small mistake! Nowadays, even rogues are not punished for something like this!"
Her words were intended to calm the crowd; however, each of them protested even more.
"So let's declare her a rogue!"
"Yes! Throw her out!"
"How dare she taint our Alpha Aiden and use forbidden magic on him!"
Pearl was scared by the crowd's sudden agitation, and her heart started to pound with panic. In her desperation, and looked at the students who were closing in, so she ran away.
Gasps sounded, murmurs became loud; however, Pearl didn't look back.
Pearl ran as fast as her legs could carry her. Her breath came out in sharp gasps, her vision blurry with tears.
The laughter, the shouting, the cruel accusations-all of it echoed in her ears like a nightmare that wouldn't end. Her chest ached not only from the pain of rejection but from the suffocating fear that now clung to her like a shadow.
She didn't know where she was going. She just wanted to get away-from Aiden, from Lucy, from everyone.
Her feet pounded against the pavement as she turned a sharp corner, and then-
Her shoe caught on a crack in the road.
With a choked gasp, Pearl stumbled forward. The world spun. Her hands scraped the rough asphalt, and pain shot through her knees as they slammed against the ground. She lay there for a second, dazed, unable to move.
Then she heard it.
A car horn.
Her eyes widened as twin beams of light cut through the darkness, blinding her. The loud roar of an engine grew closer, faster. Too fast.
She lifted her head just in time to see the headlights speeding toward her. Her heart skipped a beat.
Her body refused to move. The pain, fear, and shock all crashed into her at once, rooting her to the ground.
'Is this how it ends?' she thought, frozen as the light grew brighter, bigger. 'Am I really going to die like this?'

2 days before
"Haha, is the ugly duckling going to chase Alpha Aiden again?"
"Don't know, even I am surprised by her shamelessness. Can't she take a hint and just f*ck off?"
"It's kinda irritating though, why can't she understand? A weak, pathetic, and dumb student like her can never be together with Alpha Aiden! Who is Alpha Aiden? The King who is destined to rule the south and may even take over the position of Alpha King!"
"Yeah! Not only that, Alpha Aiden's net worth has already reached $100 billion! He achieved so much without his parents at the tender age of 18! Even I can't dream of being together with him!"
"Same. I just don't understand why Pearl thinks she has a chance. I mean, if it's her sister Lucy, I can still root for her, but Pearl? Ugh!"
Pearl, with her blue hair tied in a messy bun, was dressed in an oversized t-shirt and baggy jeans. She nervously tipped the spectacles up and lowered her head even further.
She felt as if she tasted something bitter. She couldn't explain to anyone how she felt. She loved her dignity; however, for some unknown reason, she couldn't stop herself from going near Alpha Aiden.
A force seemed to pull her toward Aiden, the walking aphrodisiac, the Greek god who owned her dreams. Shamefully enough, every time she had a glimpse of him, she would have a wet dream of him.
Just as she thought so, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the hallway. The noisy chatter around her died down almost instantly. Everyone turned their heads in one direction, and Pearl didn't even need to look to know who had arrived.
Alpha Aiden Nightshade.
He walked through the academy halls like he owned them, and honestly, he did. His dark hair was slicked back just enough to show his sharp jawline and high cheekbones.
His storm-gray eyes were as cold and unreadable as ever, glowing slightly under the sunlight streaming through the windows. Every time he blinked, it felt like time itself paused for a moment.
Today, he wore a black button-up shirt tucked neatly into slim-fit charcoal pants that hugged his lean, muscular frame. A silver chain peeked out from under his collar, and a sleek, tailored coat hung perfectly off his broad shoulders. Polished black boots hit the marble floor with quiet authority.
