Chapter 1 BLEEDING LOVE

The shouting started before I even stepped into the house.

At first, I thought it was the television again. Daniel always blasted the news or some loud action movie whenever he was angry or trying to ignore me. But this was different. It wasn't the TV. It was his voice-furious and sharp-echoing down the hallway.

I froze at the entrance of our home, my hand resting on the doorknob. My heart skipped a beat.

Was he on the phone?

No.

There was another voice. A woman's voice. Sweet. Soft. Familiar.

I stepped inside slowly, holding my stomach as if my unborn twins could somehow sense the tension in the air. I was six months pregnant, and lately, everything felt heavier. My legs ached, my back hurt, and my husband-Daniel-had been distant for weeks.

I thought it was stress from work.

I thought it was pressure.

I thought... he still loved me.

I was wrong.

The sound came again. Laughter.

My chest tightened as I walked through the living room. His briefcase was on the table. His jacket was thrown over the couch. He was home. But where was he?

Then I heard it.

A moan.

My blood ran cold.

No. No. Not Daniel. He wouldn't.

I walked faster-my slippers making soft thuds on the wooden floor. I turned the corner, heading toward the bedroom.

And then I saw it.

The door was half open. I pushed it gently.

What I saw shattered me.

Daniel was on top of her. His bare back flexed, moving in rhythm. His mouth was on her neck. Her arms were wrapped around him. Her legs were tangled with his.

Her voice.

Her face.

My sister.

Vanessa.

I choked on my breath. My hand flew to my mouth, and I stumbled back. The room spun. I felt like I was floating, like none of this was real.

He was my husband.

She was my sister.

They didn't even notice me at first. That was how lost they were in each other.

"Daniel..." I whispered, my voice barely a sound.

His head snapped up.

He looked at me like I was a stranger.

Vanessa didn't even flinch. She just smiled. That cruel, victorious smile I'd seen once before when we were kids, when she'd broken my favorite doll and pretended it wasn't her.

"You-" My lips trembled. "How could you-?"

Daniel got up, naked and unashamed. He didn't reach for a towel. He didn't even look guilty.

Instead, he pointed at my belly.

"That thing," he said harshly, "is not mine."

I blinked.

"What...?"

"You heard me!" he shouted. "We both know that bastard child isn't mine!"

I flinched.

"It's twins," I said quietly. "Your children."

He stormed toward me, rage in his eyes. "Don't you dare lie to me! I know you've been sleeping around!"

"That's not true!" I cried.

He grabbed my arm, hard. "Sign the divorce papers, Jessica! Now. Or I swear, I'll beat that thing out of your womb!"

Vanessa got up lazily from the bed, wrapping the sheets around her like a queen in a palace. "Don't be dramatic, Jess. It's better this way. He never loved you anyway."

I looked at her-my own blood-and didn't see my sister anymore. I saw a snake.

Daniel pushed me.

Hard.

I fell.

Pain exploded through my body as I hit the floor.

And then, wetness.

A warm rush between my legs.

I touched it.

Blood.

So much blood.

"No," I gasped. "Not the babies..."

Daniel stepped back, breathing heavily. "Don't pretend. That's what you wanted, right? You probably got knocked up by someone else just to trap me."

Vanessa rolled her eyes. "Come on, Daniel. Let's not waste our night."

I tried to crawl, but the pain was sharp. I screamed, clutching my stomach.

"Please..." I cried. "Help me..."

Daniel didn't move.

Neither did Vanessa.

They just stared.

I lay there, bleeding, sobbing, and shaking.

Minutes passed like hours.

Finally, the front door slammed.

They left me there. Alone. On the cold floor. Dying.

I don't remember everything after that.

Flashing lights. The sound of sirens. A nurse holding my hand. Pain. So much pain.

Then-silence.

I woke up in a hospital bed. Tubes in my arms. Machines beeping softly.

I touched my belly.

It was still there.

Thank God.

A nurse noticed I was awake and rushed over.

"You're lucky," she whispered, adjusting my IV. "One more hour and you wouldn't have made it."

I tried to speak, but my throat was dry.

"You've lost a lot of blood," she said gently. "But your babies are still okay. We're watching them closely."

Tears ran down my cheeks.

Alive.

They were alive.

I held onto that.

A few days later, a lawyer came.

Not mine.

Daniel's.

He dropped a file on my bed.

"Divorce papers," he said coldly. "Sign and we won't take this to court."

I stared at him.

"Why?" I asked.

He shrugged. "Mr. Hart wants to move on."

"And my babies?"

He didn't answer.

I signed.

I had nothing left.

No house.

No money.

No husband.

No family.

Only the twins inside me, and a broken heart.

That night, a young nurse snuck into my room. Her name was Maria. She looked nervous.

"Don't go home," she whispered. "I heard them talking. Your sister... she's saying you're crazy. That you hurt yourself. They want you declared unfit."

My hands trembled.

Maria handed me a note. It had an address.

"Go there," she said. "A friend of mine will help."

And just like that, I disappeared.

Months passed.

I lived in a quiet village under a new name. I gave birth alone. My babies-a boy and a girl-were small but strong.

I named them Hope and Leo.

Because that's all I had left.

Hope.

And the courage of a lion.

Every night, I thought about that day.

His face.

Her smirk.

The way I bled alone.

I made myself a promise.

I would never be that woman again.

One day, I'd rise.

One day, I'd return.

And they would regret everything.
