I smiled and continued eating knowing fully well her grumpy act wouldn't last for long. Mom always gave me the cold shoulder whenever i was late for school but it never stopped her from loving me in her own way.
Soon i was done eating, i kissed her goodbye and left for school
MILTON HIGHSCHOOL
Immediately i stepped into class my best friend Lisa rushed over and gave me a hug
"Oh my god! Oh my god! You won't believe what happened Lia " she gushed as she released me
What?" I said rolling my eyes in a funny way
"Leonardo was here looking for you" she said
I froze for a moment "It can't be....maybe he mistook me somebody else"
Before Lisa could respond, Leonardo-my long time crush, the hottest guy in school walked into the classroom and walked straight to my direction.
"Hey pretty" he said with a charming smile that made my heart raced like a roller coaster.
"Uhm...hehe...holla...I mean, Heyyo bro...sorry i mean, what's up mate?" I stammered
Lisa immediately nudged me hard in the ribs trying to snap me out of my embarrassing ramble while Leonardo chuckled softly.
"Amelia, right? I just came by to ask if you'd like to be my prom date next week". He said
I couldn't believe my ears. I could hear my heart racing loudly in my chest. I wanted to scream with joy but I decided to play it cool
"Sure why not" I said without a single smile on my face.
He smiled at me one last time before he left.
"Ahhhhhhhhh! what just happened, girl!?! The hottest guy in school just asked you to be his freaking date!" Lisa screamed shaking me while i was still star struck from what just happened.
A Few hours later i arrived home only to find my mom sitting on the floor crying.
"Maaa...talk to me. What happened mama? Why are you crying? Wheres dad? What's wrong?" I asked in panic, rushing to her side. I held her up and gently sat her down on the couch still asking what was wrong.
After few minutes of asking she eventually gave me a piece of paper that she had been clutching tightly.
As i opened the paper i realized it was my dad's handwriting. My heart sank as i read the words and what i saw shook me to the ground. I couldn't utter a word, i sat on the floor processing how my dad had took all my mother's property, sold the house we lived in and fled when everything around me started to be blurry until it faded into blackness.

I woke up feeling a slight headache and wishing that everything that happened earlier was nothing but a nightmare. Sadly, tears were rolling down my mom's face sitting beside me confirmed it was real.
She immediately rushed to hug me, tears streaming down her eyes. As i held her back, I whispered
"It's gonna be okay mama"
After a while, her tears subsided. She gave me a weak smile and left the room. I could see the pains behind her smile and it broke my heart to see her in that situation.

A week had gone by and it was prom night already. I hadn't been to school all week or spoken to anyone. I was lost in my thoughts when i heard the doorbell rang.
Mom had gone out to look for a job so I made my way downstairs to find out who it was.
The moment i opened the door, my heart sank as i saw Leonardo holding a bouquet of flowers. That was when reality hit me that i had promised to be Leonardo's prom date.

Leonardo
I stared at her, scanning her from head to toe. I couldn't believe she was still in her pajamas.
"Not ready yet, pretty?" I said raising an eyebrow
She looked at me straight in the eyes like a lost puppy. Her eyes were swelling up each second that passed by and before i knew it she began tearing up and gave me a tight hug. I was shocked and speechless. The bouquet fell my hands and slowly I found myself hugging her back.
" Shh, sshh, shh, it's okay pretty...let it all out".
She cried for a while then finally pulled away wiping her tears
"Uhm...Leo, I...im sorry", she whispered
"Hey, hey, it's okay. Mind telling me what's wrong" I said gently wiping away the last of her tears with my thumb. But she stayed quiet lost in her thoughts.
Amelia
I stared at the tall handsome guy i've liked for years as he wiped my tears. For what felt like forever, i found myself opening up to him about everything. He reassured me everything was gonna be alright. Then, he pulled me into a tight hug and whispered
"if you don't mind i could keep you company, pretty...prom was never my thing anyway"
I let out a light chuckle and nodded my head.
We headed upstairs to my bedroom, where we played games and goof around. Time flew by, and before i knew it, it was already 11 p.m.
As Leonardo was about to leave, my phone rang. With the called ID "Mama❤️"
"Hello, Mama....where are you? it's late already. When are you coming back?" I asked as i picked the call.
"Sorry, Amelia. I'll be back tomorrow. I'm staying over at a friend's house. Take care, princess. Bye-bye". She said before she ended the call.
"Uhm I'm going to take my leave now" Leonardo said.
"C-Can you please stay over just for tonight?". I found myself blurting out, then quickly covered my face with my hands.
He smiled at me and removed my hands from my face. Then, to my surprise he planted a soft kiss on my lips.
"I'm sorry, pretty. I'm going to be a little busy tonight, so I can't. But I promise i'll call you tomorrow".
I could feel a tsunami of butterflies erupting in my belly. My cheeks flushed red as I stared at him.
"Oh..i...uhm...sorry about that. I understand" I stammered
He gave me one last smile. "Bye, pretty" he said before leaving.
As soon as the door closed behind him, I let out a loud scream and jumped onto my bed. My crush had just kissed me and promised to call me! For a while I had completely forgotten about the problems weighing in me.
Before I knew it, I had drifted off to sleep still smiling.
