Chapter 4 Give Up on Her Room

At the Morris family house.

As soon as the car arrived, Susan came out to welcome Kailey.

"Oh, Kailey, why are you wearing such thin clothes? You might catch a cold," Susan said in distress.

Then she looked at Renea and reprimanded her fiercely, "How can you be so uncaring? Can't you give your coat to your younger sister?"

If it had been in the past, Renea would have felt feisty. However, now... "I am cold too!" she said coldly.

Susan was infuriated and was about to scold Renea when Kailey stopped her.

"Mom, I am feeling cold."

"Sweetheart, let's go. Your father is waiting for you." Susan walked in with Kailey in her arms, completely ignoring Renea.

Seeing their backs, Renea sneered. She had long been used to Susan's indifference.

Since Renea was little, Susan had never shown any concern for her.

Despite her efforts, all she got was Susan's impatient response.

Even when she ranked first in her studies, Susan still scolded her, "What's the use of studying so much?"

In the past, Renea didn't understand. She saw all parents praise their children when they excelled in their studies, so why was Susan so indifferent toward her?

Only now did she realize how ridiculous she had been in her previous life.

Renea was not Susan's biological daughter. So, of course, Susan didn't care about Renea's success or failure.

However, it took Renea her whole life to understand their schemes!

Watching Renea follow behind the mother and daughter alone, the driver shook his head with pity.

When Renea came inside, she saw various dishes on the table. However, none of them were her favorites. She didn't find it strange. After all, her so-called parents never bothered to know what she liked or disliked.

She was so used to it that she almost forgot what she liked to eat.

"Renea, hurry up and serve the food for us!" Susan commanded.

"Mom, let me do it," Kailey said as she was about to stand up.

However, Susan stopped her and said, "How can that be? It's your first day at home. How can I let you do this?"

Then she looked at Renea and said, "What are you daydreaming about? Didn't you hear me?"

Renea's lips curled into a mocking smile. She sat down at the table and smiled as she spoke, "In the past, you could say you were tough on me to help me grow up, but now, on Kailey's very first day here, you're treating me, your adopted daughter, so harshly. Aren't you afraid of gossip and rumors?"

"You..." Susan felt her blood pressure soar.

Even after being raised for eighteen years, a wolf in sheep's clothing remained wild, untamed, and unchanged.

Renea used to be obedient. Was she beginning to reveal her true nature now? Susan thought to herself.

Kailey grabbed Susan and said in a low voice, "Mom, don't be angry at Renea because of me, or I won't be at ease staying here."

"All right, all of you, sit down and eat," Leon, who had been sitting silently in the main seat, spoke.

Susan had no choice but to give up. She pulled Kailey to sit at the table and said, "Kailey, this is your father."

"Dad," Kailey greeted timidly.

Leon replied with a hum. He continued, "You must be hungry. Let's eat."

Kailey nodded cautiously.

She was obedient and sensible, winning the hearts of Susan and Leon.

"Renea, clean up your room for Kailey after the meal," Susan ordered in a deep voice.

Susan said that without any prior discussion with Renea. It was as if it were a natural thing.

Hearing this, Renea put down her fork and said coldly, "Don't you understand what I said just now?"

"What do you mean?" Susan gritted her teeth and glared at her.

Had it not been for Sir Morris's will, which transferred half of the Morris family's inheritance to Renea, how could they have retained her within the Morris family? They would have expelled her a long time ago.

Susan didn't know what Sir Morris was thinking, having his two sons and grandson yet giving the inheritance to an outsider.

"Mistreating an adopted daughter may be considered a family matter on a small scale, but on a larger scale, it could tarnish the reputation of the Morris family."

Leon swallowed his words of rebuke and said coldly, "There are so many rooms in the house. Get Kailey another room."

Renea wasn't surprised by his actions at all. Leon valued the family's reputation more than anything else. He naturally wouldn't do anything that would damage the Morris family's reputation.

"I am full." Renea stood up and smiled at Susan.

The seemingly innocent smile, however, made Susan feel uneasy, and a cold chill ran down her spine.
