Chapter 5 THE KIDNAP

Miriam rolled on her bed uncontrollably, she sat up and brushed her hair with her hands, then went to the window and opened the curtains, she sat on the window, and looked across the road, she couldn't stop thinking of what happened earlier, a lot of thoughts ran through her mind, why will her cold-blooded boss kiss her, she laid on the bed and found herself smiling, she hugged her pillow and turned to face the wall.

Anthony couldn't sleep either, he paced up and down in his bedroom, he couldn't get the reason why he kissed Miriam, he knew he wasn't drunk so why did he do it. He employed her because he wanted to teach her a lesson for pointing a finger at him, so why does it seem like he's falling in love with her? He sat on his bed and brought out his phone from his pocket, he dialed a number and when the person on the other end picked up the call, Anthony said,

''I want Miriam to be sacked first thing in the morning''

He didn't wait for the person's response as he ended the call and threw the phone on the bed, then laid on his back.

Miriam woke up in the morning and saw a message in her email, she checked it and saw it was a sack letter, she opened her mouth in shock, she started thinking of what she had done that made the boss sack her, she couldn't hold back her emotions as she burst out in tears, she covered her face with her pillow as she didn't want to disturb her siblings. There was a knock on the door, and she quickly wiped her tears, Sophia came in and said to Miriam,

''What's up, aren't you going to work today?''

Miriam picked up her fingernails as she remained silent, Sophia looked confused and came and sat with her on the bed, she took Miriam's hand in hers and asked,

''What's wrong dear, is there something that is bothering you?''

Miriam sniffed and wiped the tears that were already falling out of her eyes with the back of her hand, then cleared her voice and said,

''On the day of the interview, a car splashed water on me while I was waiting for a cab to the place of the interview, I insulted the man in the car and left. When I reached the company, I found out that the man I insulted was the CEO of the company, Mr. Anthony Parks''

''Oh my God!!!!''

Sophia screamed as she covered her mouth with her hands. Miriam continued,

''He employed me and told me that he was going to make me suffer, I wanted to resign immediately but knowing that we needed the money, I said I would face anything that was going to happen. Yesterday, there was a party at the company, and it happened that he didn't have a date, so he told me to pretend to be his girlfriend, after the party, he brought me home and when I was about to leave the car, he..........''

Miriam stopped and looked down as she played with her hands, Sophia kept on looking at her and when she refused to keep talking, Sophia asked her,

''What happened, what did he say or do to you?''

With a low voice, Miriam said,

''He kissed me"

Sophia shifted back a little,

'' He did what?''

Miriam nodded her head,

''You heard me right, he kissed me, I was surprised too, I didn't know why he did that but before I could react, he drove off. This morning, when I woke up, I saw a letter in my email, and when I checked it, it was a sack letter''

Sophia burst into tears as Miriam comforted her, Sophia said to her,

'' It's ok, it's not your fault, we will get a better job''

''But what did I do wrong, he was the one that kissed me, why does he have to fire me?''

Sophia patted her back and all of a sudden smiled as a thought came to her head, then in a low and silly voice she said,

''What if he fired you because he found out he's falling in love with you?"

Miriam sharply turned to Sophia, she looked confused and then said,

''How could you think of such a dumb thing in the middle of a serious situation?''

Sophia rolled her eyes at her, and said,

''Can't you see, he kissed you, and because he couldn't admit he was falling for you, he decided to sack you so he could concentrate''

Miriam cleaned her eyes and said,

''Sophia, I appreciate your effort but believe me, you are not helping matters, so please can you leave so I can think of a way out''

''Alright, I'm leaving''

Sophia stood up and went to the door when she was about to open it, she turned around and faced Miriam, she said,

''Let's make a deal, why don't you go to the office today and confront him on why he sacked you and know what he is going to say''

Miriam threw a pillow at her and screamed,

''Go away''

Sophia laughed and went out of the room and screamed from outside,

''Do come down for breakfast''

Miriam sighed, walked to the door, and picked up the pillow she threw at her sister, she sat on the bed and thought of what her sister said. After giving it a good thought, she decided to go to the company and confront her boss. After eating breakfast with her family, she dressed and went to the office, when she got there, she went straight to her office and saw that her boss was in, she went to the office and knocked gently then went in. Anthony looked up and then faced his computer, Miriam came closer and said,

''I received your letter, sir''

''So why are you here?''

''I just want to ask you a question then I leave''

Anthony continued what he was doing on his computer, Miriam looked at him for a while and said,

''Why did you kiss me?''

Anthony stopped what he was doing for a while just staring at his computer, then he continued working on it. This irritated Miriam so much that she went over to him and held his hand,

''For how long will you pretend that I am not standing in front of you?''

Anthony looked at Miriam's hand on his hand then slowly looked up and gave her a cold stare, Miriam quickly removed her hand and apologized,

''I am sorry sir, I didn't mean to, I will take my leave now''

She hurriedly left the room and rushed down, she met Jane on her way out of the company and Jane gave her a wicked smile, and said,

''Hope never to meet you again Miss Miriam''

Miriam stared at her and left the company. She was walking down the street when a black car with tinted glasses pulled over to her, the back door opened and the man in the back seat came out pushed her inside the car, and they drove off. Miriam was terrified as she saw she was surrounded by hefty men. She wanted to scream but one of the men closed her mouth with a handkerchief and she slept off. When she woke up, she found herself in a room, she was tied to a chair, and she could hear some people talking in the distance, she tried to free herself but couldn't. After a while, a man in a black suit entered the room and sat on the chair opposite her, he took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, sipped, and puffed, then looking at Miriam, he said,

''What is the password to the company safe?''

Miriam opened her mouth in surprise,

''Was that the reason I was kidnapped? holy shit, I just started work, I don't even know my way around the office''

The man stared at her and said,

''Listen up, if you don't tell me the password right now, you will have yourself to blame''

The man stood up, brought out a gun from his pocket, and went over to Miriam, dragging her by the hair and pointing the gun to her head, he asked,

''What is the password?''

Miriam with a terrified voice answered,

''I swear, I don't know''

''Why don't you ask me instead''

Everyone turned around to see the person that just made the sentence, it was Anthony, he was standing with some men, and they were all armed. The man with Miriam looked outside and saw that all his men were lying lifeless on the ground. He quickly grabbed Miriam by the neck and said to Anthony,

''Any move from you, I will put a bullet in her head''

Anthony smiled and said,

''Not like I care''

Immediately someone came from the man's back and knocked him to the ground, he struggled to get up, but it was already late, Anthony's men surrounded him, then Anthony came forward and asked him,

''Who sent you?''

The man smiled and said,

''I rather die than tell you''

As he said this, he brought out a little knife from his breast pocket and stabbed himself in the heart. The men tried to stop the bleeding, but the man was already dead. Anthony ordered his men to untie Miriam as he walked out of the room. Miriam rushed over to him and asked,

''What is happening, why did they kidnap me, they asked for the password to the company's safe and how did you find me?''

Anthony just continued walking without saying a word, she wanted to catch up with him but tripped and was about to fall when Anthony grabbed her by the waist. Anthony looked her in the eyes and said,

''Try not to get into trouble again''

Then he pulled her up and went on, he stopped and without turning back he said,

''Be at the office by 8 tomorrow, you have a lot of work to do''

Then he got into his car and left. Miriam stood speechlessly. She couldn't wrap her head around what just happened. A car pulled over to her and said,

''Please get in Miss, Mr. Anthony told me to drop you off''

Miriam nodded and got into the car.
