Chapter 3 THE HOT BOSS

Miriam woke up early the next day to prepare for work. She brought out the clothes that her boss got for her, they were stunning, and she couldn't even compare any of them to her most beautiful clothes. She tried them on and finally settled for a yellow gown and a black jacket with a pair of black flat shoes and a yellow bag. She brushed her teeth, took her bath and dressed up then spray a perfume on her body. When she came downstairs after dressing up, her family looked at her with admiration, Sophia went to her, touching her on the cheeks, she said,

''Baby you look so beautiful''

Miriam blushed slightly, then said,

''Thank you, I will be on my way now''

Sophia held her hand and with a concerned voice she said,

''Try and eat something before leaving dear''

''No, I am already a bit late, I don't want to be fired on my first day''

They all laughed and waved at her as she left the house. She took a cab to the company, ''THE PARKS'' were boldly written in front of the company, Mr. Anthony is the richest billionaire in Louisiana, America and his company is the most powerful and richest company in America, she thanked God for making it possible for her to be there. She got out of the cab that she boarded to the office and went inside the office,

''You are Miss Miriam Dior, right?''

A lady said approaching her,

''Yes, I am''

''Please this way''

The lady said as she led the way, she took her on an elevator, and they arrived at a very large office. Miriam looked around with her eyes wide open, she had never been to such a huge office before. The lady said to her,

''This is your office, the table over there is yours, that room over there is Mr. Anthony Parks' office, if you need any information about the company, check your computer. Have a nice day''

The lady concluded and turned to leave, Miriam stopped her and asked,

''Please what's your name?''

The lady looked around then smiled at her and said,

''If you don't want to lose your job, avoid gossip''

She turned and left through the elevator. Miriam was surprised, she wondered if everyone in the company was as rude as the boss. She accepted her fate and went to her desk, she turned on her computer and went through the files in it. She was still looking at the files when the lady that brought her in and another lady came in carrying some documents, they dropped them on her table and turned to leave, she asked them what it was all about, but the first lady kept on walking, the other lady turned and gave her a sign with her hand that she will be back. Miriam glanced through the documents but couldn't understand anything. After a while, the other lady came back and introduced herself,

''Hello Miss Miriam, sorry about the attitude earlier, I am Sarah, and the other lady is Jane''

Miriam was a little surprised and asked,

''How did you know my name?''

Sarah laughed and said,

''Your name is everywhere''

Miriam raised a brow and asked,

''Wow, so is that how you all behave around here or it's just her and the boss?''

Sarah laughed and said,

''Sorry about that, Jane was the Secretary to the boss, she had feelings for the boss and being his secretary, she thought she could get him, but the boss never looked at her for once. She used her influence as the boss's secretary to order everyone in the company around''

Sarah looked around and came closer to Miriam and whispered,

''Now she's one of us''

Sarah busted into laughter, then continued,

''As if not noticing her wasn't enough, the boss took her job as the secretary and gave it to you, so I guess she's just jealous of you being close to the boss instead of her''

Miriam nodded her head as Sarah finished her story, now she understood why Jane was rude to her, Sarah came closer and said,

''Don't you think of ever falling in love with the boss, we all did and ended up heartbroken''

Miriam rolled her eyes at her, why would she fall for someone who have been rude to her? The elevator door opened, and the boss came in. He was putting on a shinning suit, his hair was neatly brushed to the side, Sarah turned red immediately and this annoyed Miriam, the boss wasn't looking anything close to handsome in her eyes, she looked at him and all she could see is the devil himself. The boss came closer and looked at Sarah who had unconsciously opened her mouth and asked her,

''What are you doing here?''

Sarah quickly brought herself together and said while scratching the back of her neck,

''Uh.... nothing sir, I just came to drop some documents for Miriam and I'm about to take my leave''

She stammered as she rushed out. Anthony looked at Miriam with a cold face and walked into his office. Miriam sat down and picked one of the documents to go through when she got a call on the telephone on her desk, she picked it up and said,

''Hello?''

''Come to my office''

Then the call dropped, she knew it was the cold voice of her boss, she stood up and went to his door, gave a gentle knock before going in, she stood beside the chair and said,

''You asked for me, sir''

''Go get me wine from the company store''

Miriam bowed and turned to leave when he said again,

''And make sure you don't leave the office till you are done with all the documents on your desk''

Miriam was amazed, she concluded in her mind that Anthony was a devil sent to earth to make her life miserable, how could he tell her not to leave the office till she was done with all the documents on her desk, documents that were more than fifty. She went to get him the wine and when she came back, she saw that the documents on her desk have increased. She went to his office and dropped the wine then turned to leave but suddenly stopped, walked back to him, and asked,

''Please sir, the documents are too much for me to go through in one day, please can I finish it tomorrow?''

Anthony poured himself a drink and then continued what he was doing on his laptop. Miriam felt insulted and ashamed. She slowly turned around and left the office. She sat behind her desk and started going through the documents, they were the company's policy, and she read until she fell asleep. When she woke up, she saw the boss sitting across her with his legs crossed and holding a newspaper. She quickly sat up and arranged the documents on her desk, the boss looked at his wristwatch and said,

''You slept for 45 minutes, that is 45,000 dollars from your salary. Miriam's eyes widened as she quickly went to him and got on her knees,

''I'm very sorry sir, please it won't happen again''

Anthony looked at her and stood up, he turned to leave when Miriam held his hand, he turned and gave her a cold look that sent cold chills down her body and she left his hand immediately and said,

''I'm sorry''

Anthony walked away as Miriam slowly stood up and went back to her seat. She opened the documents on her desk and continued reading. When it was time to go home, Sarah came up to her office and asked her if she wasn't going yet, Miriam told her she had a lot of things to do, Sarah said OK and told her she would see her tomorrow, then left. Miriam's phone rang and she saw the caller was Sophia, she picked it up and said,

''Hey Sophia''

''What's up, it's already very late, what's keeping you there?''

''I will be back soon, got a lot of stuff to handle''

''Should I come to pick you up?''

''No, I will be fine''

''Alright, please be fast and careful''

'' No problem, Sis''

Miriam ended the call and looked towards her boss's office, he was still in, so she faced her work. After a while, the boss came out and walked straight to the elevator, when he got to the door, he paused, turned around, and asked Miriam,

''Are you not going home?''

Miriam looked at him with hatred, standing before her was the man who told her not to go home unless she was done with all the documents on her desk, now he was asking her if she was not going home. Miriam replied,

''I will sir, I have not finished with the documents''

Anthony sighed and said,

''What a lazy secretary I got myself, come on, nobody is in the company again, go home but make sure you are here on time tomorrow''

Miriam quickly packed her bag as she thanked him. She rushed over to join him in the elevator, but he closed the door in her face and left. Miriam nearly exploded in anger, she angrily turned and took the stairs. When Miriam finally got home, it was very late and she met Sophia sitting at the doorstep with a flashlight, when Sophia saw Miriam coming, she rushed towards her and hugged her then said,

''What kept you so long honey?''

''I had a lot of documents to look at, you know it's my first day, so everything was new and strange''

''Next time, call us so we can come to pick you up, it's not safe outside''

Miriam nodded her head and said,

''I am sorry I got you worried''

Sophia hugged her and kissed her forehead,

''It's ok, come in, I prepared dinner, and you have to tell me everything that happened today''

The two sisters laughed and went into the house to meet the rest of the family waiting for them in the sitting room. A black car that was parked a few blocks from Miriam's house drove off.
