Chapter 9 STEPS

ADRIAN'S POV

It took me all my willpower to ask him such a question and the first thing I expected from him was a slap but he only stared at me as if I had said something strange. "Can I sit here?" I asked again but he only continued staring at me without saying a word. "Can everybody settle down, please?" The professor shouted and I sighed. I didn't know he would be in class so soon.

Without asking further, I threw my bag on the seat and climbed the desk to sit beside him. He turned his head to look at me and his eyes widened. "Have you lost your mind? Do you know who you are sitting with?" He asked and I smiled. "Of course. I know it's the most handsome guy in my department, Austin." I replied to him and I saw him frown. He looked at Kelvin and Tine who were staring back at him and his frown deepened "Can you explain to me why you are doing this? This is unlike you or have you truly lost your mind after what happened yesterday?" He asked me but I could feel the irritation in his voice. I was sure he would have thrown me a punch in the face if not for the professor in class which I was glad for.

"I haven't lost my mind, Austin. I'm here to sit with you today and I'm not leaving." I replied firmly and dropped my bag on the desk. I opened my bag and was about to bring out my system and note when he placed his hand on my bag and shook his head. "Leave. Leave here, Adrian. I don't want you beside me." He said with so much hatred in his tone that my heart ached. I wondered why I was feeling this way toward him when I hated him so much before but I decided not to think so hard about it and smirked. "Are you scared?" I questioned and he frowned. "Of what?" He asked and I shrugged. "Who knows? Maybe of me? Are you scared of me?" I asked and he rolled his eyes. He removed his hand from my bag and wiped his hand with Kevin's handkerchief before throwing it away~ That was how much he hated me.

"I will just listen to this lecture and leave it here for you." He muttered as he looked away from me and looked at the professor who already started his lecture. I sighed, brought out my things, and placed them on the table. I was still trying to operate my system when my phone buzzed and I smiled because I already knew what it was about. I brought out my phone from my pocket and as expected, it was a message from Kun and Knight. "Dude, what are you doing there? Are you planning something? Why don't you let us in?" They both asked in the group chat and I rolled my eyes. I had expected Kun to hate me and stopped being friends with me after what I did to him last night but I was surprised to see that he was still in our friendship group and even asked me what I was doing with Austin.

I turned my head to look at them as they were sitting at the back and I winked at them. They winked back and laughed, seemingly creating their assumptions in their heads but I had no reason to correct their thoughts. I stared at my phone screen for a little longer before I closed the screen and dropped it back in my pocket. I had no idea what to say to them as I had no idea what was happening to me either. I turned my system on and started listening to the professor but I had no idea where he was teaching.

I looked at the guy beside me and realized he was busy pressing his phone without paying attention to the class. I turned to look at Austin only to see that he was fully focused on the class. I smiled and moved a little closer to him without him noticing anything. I stretched my neck and like that, I was able to get some things on his system which I copied down immediately but he soon caught me. He glared at me and shook his head "Don't provoke me, Adrian." He warned and returned his attention to the lecture.

The class went on like that and an hour later, it was over with me not gaining much from the class but it wasn't the first time anyways, I was always like that and that was why I was not as brilliant as Austin. After the class was over, I packed my things, returned them to my bag, and stood up. I turned to leave but then, I remembered I had something to say to Austin so I turned my head to look at him only to barge into him. We were so close that our lips were just about two inches away from each other

I was frozen, my mind was a mess and for some seconds, I had no idea what to do I just stood there staring at each other's eyes until he placed his hand on my chest and pushed me back. "Will you let me pass?" He asked coldly and walked past me. Tine was the one that followed after me and he glared at me "Be careful, Prick!" He warned and walked past me too. Kelvin walked over and stood in front of me "I don't know what happened there yesterday but I know Austin saved your ass and you might want to appreciate him but do you think Austin needs your gratitude? You are suffocating him, Man and you should get the f**k away!" Kelvin warned and rolled his eyes before walking away.

Normally, I would have punched him, thrown him on the desk, and beat the hell out of him but I wasn't in the mood at the moment so I just let him go while I stared at the three of them leaving for the next class. The day continued with Austin being extremely cold to me while I stayed close to him and a few hours later, we were done with our classes. "Let's go to your place together, Adrian," Kun said but I shook my head. I needed some space for myself so I could think because I knew that whatever I was developing for Austin wasn't good and it would be best if I could end it as fast as possible.

I expected my friends to try forcing themselves to follow me home but they didn't and we bade our goodbyes at the school gate. I boarded a cab and got home in no time. Without talking much to my mum, I walked to my room, took a bath, wore a top and a pair of trousers, and went out of my room. "Mum, I'm hitting a nightclub. I will be back before morning." I said to my mum as I rushed out of the house. The best place to be when my mind was so messed up was the club and I wasn't going to miss that.

I got to the club in no time and entered. I looked around the club with a big smile on my face, my hands clenching and unclenching as I watched the beautiful ladies dance to the low loud music being played by the DJ. I was still searching for the hottest lady to dance with when my eyes caught someone drinking alone at a corner of the bar and I frowned "Isn't that Austin?" I asked loudly and walked closer to confirm but then, it was him and he was drunk!
