Chapter 5 Is my mate in danger

"Is the intruder dead?" Alpha Ezra, my dad asked giving me a suspicious look.

"Not yet".

"Then what's keeping you, you've been acting weirdly since her arrival, Is she your mate?"

"Dad, what do you mean", I stammered.

"It was just a joke", Dad said and patted my shoulders then he beckoned on my sister Brianna to come over.

She shifted and ran over. "Hey brother, you've been so scarce", Brianna said and kissed my cheeks, I gave her a stern look while she smirked,

"You know you're so handsome, I wish I wasn't just your sister".

I removed her paws off my shoulder, "In your dreams, Where is mom?"

She's over there, I smiled as my mom ran to us in her wolf form. Jade, she called as she ran over and kisses my cheeks.

"Mom, you're back already, you shouldn't have come out, you could have had some rest", I told mom and turned to Dad to concur with me but instead he was staring lovingly at his mate.

These two, they still loved each other so much like the old times. He walked over to mom and combed the fur that covered her eyes with his paws. "We'll race today", Dad said and took his position.

"Yhhhhhhh, common, I will surely win, at least I can surpass you. Dad, I will show you that I can be compared to my brother, no I am far more above his status. There is a saying, What a male can do, a female can do better Shift brother, I must win today",

Brianna shouted and also took her position. I ignored her haughty lips, shifted and took off when I heard Ready, GO!!!

I was usually the one that won in races like this but for some reason, I was slacking off. Mate..., I heard Ace call in a strange tone.

"What's wrong with her?"

"I'm not so sure", he replied.

"She'll be fine, Okay?" I said and increased my pace. My parents chatted as they ran so swiftly. Brianna was ahead of all of us. She turned back to me and gave me a mocking look with a wry smile on her lips, she really loved to compete with me.

I ran up to her and outdid her.

"It's not fair Jade", she shouted. Your gifted in running does not mean you'll show off with it, I heard fast approaching steps and I knew she increased her pace. She was right, I had a high sense of speed, smell, sound, vision and detecting danger. I was the fastest in my pack and the strongest apart from dad though he was getting aged. You'll really be a good leader, Dad had told me the day I first shifted.

On my eighteenth birthday, Dad was really happy that I would find my mate, happier than myself, he yearned to see my mate thus summoned all the females in the pack but I couldn't trace her scent. Little did I know that she was a human.

"Mate", I heard Ace call in a distressed and strange tone. Just then I sensed danger that surged sharply in my head, I feared, I feared that something bad happened to my mate. I could perceive the lurking danger.

I ran as fast as possible cutting down branches and trees that obstructed my way.

"Jade!", my parents called out. Brianna was stuck between finishing the race or going after us. She looked twice at the line and me then ran towards my direction.

Meanwhile, I came to my room and locked the door so that my parents wouldn't find out I had a secret woman. I shifted and took my shirt and pants from the couch putting it on as I walked towards the bathroom. I walked into the bathroom and found her drowning. I ran to her and raised her head from inside the water. Was this lady stupid?, how could she doze off while bathing? Does she know the kind of pressure she placed in me just now?

I lifted her up immediately and dashed to the bed. I thumped her back and lay her down then pressed down her chest. She spat out water and opened her eyes. I saw that she was confused and scared but when she saw me, she calmed down. Looked like she had a terrible dream, I pitied her, she must have seen wolves in her dream.

I turned sharply when I heard the heavy sound of paws approaching my room. "Stay here", I told her and covered her with the bedsheet, I placed pillows on her, "Still try to breathe", I said again and walked towards the door. Dad has already kicked it open knowing I would lock it. They had all shifted and came in looking at me surprised and worried.

"What's wrong", dad asked looking round the room, his eyes focused on the bed. I came in front of him and he retracted his eyes asking me the same question again. I just felt tired and nauseous. 'Unlike you" ,mom said slapping my cheeks gently. "Mommmmmmmmm"

"Alrighttt", probably you haven't eaten, let me check what the maiden wolves are doing.

Okay mom, Brianna smiled mischievously and followed mom out.

"Are you sure everything is okay?"

"Sure dad", I told him and faked a smile.

I knew dad suspect something sinister, it wasn't that bad after all, she was my mate. I came back to reality when he walked towards my bed.

I had to think of something quickly, my situation couldn't be found out by Dad, I would undergo screenings and revisions from the elders.

I may even be sent to head another pack who had a weak Alpha and I would never see this human, Mom, my best friends and everyone I loved, and of course the punishment was not going to be light.

I had to think about something, and that quickly.

l looked at the mirror and then to my Dad. "I, uh...".
