Chapter 2 YUMMY MEN

Today's the day we leave for the high profile event. It was going to be a whole day's job.Thinking about it had me exhausted already. How the hell is it possible that I stand on my feet all day but earn so little?

As an usher at Jolly Events, New York. I expected my pay to grow and increase the longer I worked with them. There should be some sort of promotion!

It's an event planning company and I have worked with them since my last year in college, I deserve some kind of bonus.

I had left the waitress job I was doing not only because I thought this one would pay better but because I assumed I would have less people looking at me like a meal about to be devoured. But I still got weird lusty looks from thirsty men while I ushered...ugggghhhh!! Life is never fair.

"You're not early," my boss, Miss Williams said as I walked into the office. I looked at my watch and it was 8:00am.

"It's 8:00 am Ma'am. We leave by 8:30 am," I told her.

"You're so dumb!" She replied and walked away. I wondered what had her knickers in a bunch today. She's always in a bad mood but this past week has been worse.

Once I noticed our bus had arrived, I got up, ready to begin the journey.

Our company has been contracted to plan a wedding here in New York. The planners and all those decorating had already gone a day ahead to set things in place. While we, who are the ushers, will arrive today.

The wedding is an evening event, and we'll be lodged in a hotel until tomorrow because my boss prefers everywhere to be tidy before we leave a venue. She says it puts our company in a positive light with the owners of the venues

As we journey to our location, my colleagues are chatting. I plugged in my earphones, listening to songs by Billie Eilish. Perfect for my quiet mood.

"Look, look, there's one of the hotels owned by Smith Incorporation," I faintly heard one of the girls say.

"Yes, it's a five star hotel and only the top one percent go there. It's been in our city for a while. How haven't you noticed it?" Another one replied standoffish.

As they bantered, I stretched my neck a little bit and saw that it indeed was not a hotel for the poor.

I have now seen a Smith Incorporation building twice within a short period. Was this a sign to apply for a job there? I take it as one. Once I get back home, I'm sending in an application.

I sighed, plugged back my earphones and increased the volume so that I wouldn't hear their banters.

Once we arrived our hotel, I checked into my room and wondered who I'll be sharing the room with this time. I noticed someone right behind me.

"Hey, Ixora. It seems your roommate didn't come to work today. Miss Williams keeps lamenting that we are short of one staff," the person behind me said. I try to remember her name but I can't.

"Oh, that's unfortunate." I just replied . I really didn't have time for petty talk. I just wanted to work and go home.

I go dressed in my work uniform and set out.

I scanned the area, looking for the best spot to stand. I preferred welcoming the guests from outside but someone else had taken that spot.

I watched as the guests came in. Oh, they were so elegant.

"Hi, can I use the restroom somewhere?" A middle aged woman asked me. I point her in the direction.

I attend to various complaints from various guests and helped in serving even, before returning to my spot.

I watched as the guests joined the bride and groom on the dance floor. I smiled at how elegant the women were and how handsome I found the men. The men looked so yummy.

Yummy? That was cringe, eew! I needed to get laid. It's been a whole year, and that had to be what was making me think like a high schooler. After my last heartbreak, I had taken a deliberate step away from men. I think it's time to get back into that pool.

After the event, we began tidying up. "You guys, tidy here up! And do so quickly. I need to get some sleep." Miss Williams yelled.

It was now very late but we had to get everything in order before going to our various hotel rooms. Tomorrow morning, we might come back to check how it looks but tidying must be done tonight.

After we were done, I changed into something casual and headed down to my hotel's bar. I needed to let go of the stress of today. My head is a mess of thoughts. I have to get drunk and let loose tonight!
